Open Day Every student, every voice was this year’s Open Day theme. It was terrific to see the authentic partnership and relationship between classroom teachers, students and parents. Congratulations to everyone involved on the day!

Construction update

Work on our new facilities is progressing well with water now connected and back filling to below ground structures. The school is beginning to set a plan in place to move teaching resources from the administration block. This early planning and preparation will ensure minimal disruption to classes. As always our priority are our students. Two additional containers will be bought to house equipment and teaching resources.

Student Leadership Development My highlight as Principal last week was to be able to participate at the Years 5/6 camp at Broken Bay. I was absolutely proud of the kids as they challenged themselves beyond their personal limits. The courage display by Kai Z and many other students including teachers will not be forgotten. This opportunity for students would not be possible without the support of our Stage 3 teachers. Thank you.

Junior Girls PSSA Football On Friday the 9th of August the West Ryde Junior Girls PSSA team had their first win against Eastwood Public School. The girls played extremely well and used the high wind at Meadowbank Park to their advantage. Jess and Kendra were our two goalkeepers for the game. They did not concede any goals and made sure the ball was passed to members of their team. The whole team rose to the occasion, making excellent passes to one another which led to two goals being scored by Isabella with the assistance of Hailey, Nirvana and Narkiz. The whole team should be proud of the time and effort they have put in this season.

Athletics Carnival

The Annual Athletics Carnival took place on Tuesday 13th August at the Warm Up Arena at Sydney Olympic Park. This was our second attempt to have the carnival so it was great to see the sun come out and join us!

It was an excellent day for students to try their best in different track and field events, including 100m, 200m, 800m, High Jump, Long Jump, Shotput and Discus. The day ended with the nail-biting relay races where the results were as follows:

• Masked Owls won the Junior and Senior Girls relay, • Nighthawks won the Junior Boys relay • Falcons won the Senior Boys relay.

Congratulations to all students involved!

Everyone had a fantastic day and good luck to the students who were successful in making it to the Zone Athletics Carnival to represent WRPS proudly!

On behalf of the P&C, I would like to thank the Principal and the whole school staff for organising it and giving the parents an opportunity to visit the school and celebrate the learning in the school. Many parents turned up for the open day and watched our lovely choir groups, orchestra, dance group and the band perform. Our student leaders and the public speakers did a great job too. Afterwards many parents were actively engaged in the class room activities. My son’s classroom was busy building terrariums as a part of their STEM Projects. Great team work by the kids!

We are organising the Father’s day stall, Working Bee and of course last but not the least the much awaited event for everyone in the school ---Family Disco ( Spring Disco) being held on 13th September, 5PM-8PM, in our own school. 2019 Woolworths Earn and Learn Wrap Up

Thanks to all of our school community who got behind our Woolworths Earn and Learn collection this year. After all of your efforts and full shopping trolleys, our wonderful earn and learn coordinator, Alison Chan, had the fun task of completing and counting 754 total sticker sheets. That's 45240 stickers! Last time that this event was run we collected 32700 stickers, so you all blitzed it. That's even after local stores ran out almost two weeks before the end of the promotion! Well done and thank you! The funds generously donated by Woolworths have been used by the school to purchase play equipment for our juniors, and products for equipment storage and transport. A big shout out to Alison for being proactive and offering to help us even before I could blink an eye! You are a star!

Are you using the Kiss & Ride Zone for drop offs and pick ups? There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our children. P&C’s efforts over the years resulted in the council approving and introducing the ‘Kiss and Ride’ Zone on Mon’s Avenue. P&C Volunteers are monitoring the ‘Kiss & Ride’ Zone every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30AM-8:55AM.

Time and again, we have been communicating about using ‘Kiss and Ride’ safely. Here are a few pictures that show how we are creating dangerous situations for our children.

The red car in the picture was captured making U-Turn in the ‘Kiss & Ride’ Zone by the monitors. One picture needs no explanation at all! You can all see a child trying to take his belongings out of the boot. I understand we could be in a rush in the morning but could we all please keep child safety above everything? I really appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of that the ‘Kiss and Ride’.

Page 11: ‘nothing left unattempted’...Uniform Shop 29th Aug Yr 2 Swim Scheme Canteen Father’s Day Stall Father’s Day Afternoon Tea 30th Aug Yr 2 Swim Scheme PSSA Open Day Every student,

For the Safety of Children in the ‘Kiss and Ride’ Zone please follow these guidelines:

The Lead car should drive and stop at the pole, subsequent cars should follow. The children should swiftly and safely exit the car, get their bags, wave goodbye and move towards the

gate. The school bags need to be with the children in the back seat or front seat, not in the boot The children should always exit from the footpath side door and not on the road side. There are no

exceptions, even if the parents are getting off and helping the children. Parents should not cut in from the right lane to enter the Kiss and Ride line just because they are running

late, or the line is too long. The driver needs to remain seated in the car at all times.

I am quite excited as our new Principal, Mr.Sakuna Pho will be attending his first P&C Meeting next week. It’s your chance to come and meet him and get to know him as well. See you soon!

Many Thanks

Rachna Bhardwaj P&C President [email protected]
