Humber Bay Bridge, Toronto, Ontario The Humber Bay Pedestrian Bridge was a collaborative design effort involving architects, landscape architects and artists, and integrates concepts of fire, air and water. The shapes in the steel structure are an abstract representation of the Thunderbird, symbolic of the Woodland native peoples who occupied the Humber valley. Consultation on the design of the bridge was undertaken by the artist, Brad Golden of Environmental Artworks Studio with the Woodlands Cultural Centre on the Six Nations reserve at Brantford. The bronze turtles imbedded in the concrete walls, commemorate the Earth, known as the Turtle, and the snapping turtles that lay eggs in the sands of the Humber Bay. Interpretive plaques located under the bridge, trace the prehistory of the river system.

The East Bank Esplanade, Portland, Oregon Portland’s River Renaissance project includes the development of a riverside pedestrian and cycling greenway. The project includes a number integrated art pieces, designed by local artists and created as part of the Regional Arts and Culture Council’s Percent for Art program (1% of development costs set aside for public art). Thirteen urban markers run the length of the Esplanade, marking the eastside street grid and providing information about the river and the rich history of the area. "The Alluvial Wall" is constructed of “cold-forged steel plate with bronze castings lodged between its layers”. The sculpture clings to a concrete retaining wall, and “alludes to the interwoven layers of the river’s pre-industrial geology and human artifacts; an amalgam of sedimentation and erosion”. "The Echo Gate" beneath the Morrison Bridge, introduces “an element of human scale within the immensity of the site. The sculpture echoes erased pier buildings and the myths of Shanghai tunnels”.
