Easter, for me as a child, wasmore about the suit than it wasabout the Savior. I did not growup in a religious family wherethe signi cance of Easter wasdiscussed. Easter was abouthunting colored eggs and notgetting your suit dirty.

The day before Easter waswhen things really started

to get interesting around ourhouse. Mama would ll variouscontainers with vinegar anddrop in a dye tablet to give ittime to dissolve before the eggswere ready. She would then boildozens of eggs while we kids satat the table spilling the variouscontainers of brightly coloredvinegar. During all of this nomention was ever made of why

    we celebrated Easter.

My Easter memories becametainted early on. In the rst gradewe had an Easter egg hunt; the rst prize being a chocolate bunny.I remember wanting that bunnymore than anything in the world. Iwanted it so bad I lied about howmany eggs I had collected just toget it. When it was discovered Ididnt have as many eggs as I hadclaimed, I lied even more to coverup the rst lie. Looking back Idont know how I pulled it off butI came home with the bunny, wellhalf of it anyway, and showed it tomy grandmother. I never forgot thebunny or the lie. I no longer carefor chocolate bunnies ahh thewages of sin.

Looking back I cant help butwonder if I had known whatEaster was all about would I havelied about the amount of eggs inmy basket? Although its purelyspeculation I would like to think I would have done the right thing.Knowing my character then, probably not.

Despite that one episode mostof my Easter memories revolvearound the phrase, Dont GetYour Suit Dirty! It seems unfairto dress a kid up in a suit, sendhim digging through the thornsand thistles of a nearby pasture

looking for colored eggs and haveany expectations that grass stainswould not rule the day. As a result,my Easter memories were morestressful than entertaining.

Now that I have a personalrelationship with the maincharacter in the Easter story thestress surrounding the occasion isreplaced by a mixture of sadness

and joy. Sadness because of therealization those timesspent around the tabledying eggs could havebeen enriched by thestory of Christ and hislove for me. Joyfulbecause Christ lovesme and has risen to saveme from myself.

The reality is not muchhas changed. I still getup put on my suit anddig through the thorns

and thistles of life. However, thestress is replaced by a calmingreassurance that one day I willbe sitting around a table in Glory hearing the story of Easter frommy Saviors own lips. Ill try notto spill the vinegar.

    Its Not AboutThe Suit?

I live each day with hopes and prayersFor better days to be

For I am sure, I will be blessed

With heavens love and careSomewhere in the days ahead Between my hopes and prayers.

I will not yield to fates of earthThat man decides by odds

I have been at the AnchorageGospel Rescue Mission sinceApril 25 th, 2007. When I rstentered the NewLife ProgramI wasnt sure that I needed tostay for the whole year butsoon realized that 30 years of

bad and addictive habits wasntgoing to goaway in30 days.AlthoughI had beeninvolvedwith justa b o u te v e r ykind of

drug andsin it wasalcohol, orrather my abuse of alcohol thatbrought me to the Mission.

I grew up going to churchevery week, whether I wantedto or not. I stopped going the rst week I didnt have to go,which was the week I moved

    out of my parents house.

I knew of God and I knew of Jesus but never took the timeto have a personal relationshipwith God, and I gured thatwas good enough.

I had a high school education,

went to business school and thoughtI was a fairly intelligent personand didnt need any help runningmy life. I didnt need the King of Kings, Prince of Peace, Bread of Life, Lion of Judah, Son of God,the Alpha or the Omega getting in

    the way.

I hope that lastsentence soundsas ridiculous toyou as it nowdoes to me!

I was born againseven years ago.I made Jesus

Christ my Savior, but not my Lord, and once again,

I thought that was good enough.Through my attendance of biblestudies, classes, guest speakersand chapel service, I have come torealize that is not good enough.

Accepting Jesus as your Savior butnot your Lord is like receiving a

beautifully wrapped gift and neveropening it to receive the blessingson the inside, and what blessingsthey are! I am forgiven of my sins, free of condemnation, accepted inChrist, blessed, victorious, a lightto the world, the salt of the earth, and a child of God! To name justa few.

I am very fortunate to be here atthe Anchorage Gospel RescueMission. I know that God hasa plan for me because I can look back on my life and see all thosetimes that, without God beingthere to watch over me, I wouldntbe here today.

I want to thank God for you and allthose who support the AnchorageGospel Rescue Mission, or I wouldnot be here today.I want to thank God for myMom and Dad, who helped lay afoundation of Christ in my life.

I want to thank God that while Iwas still a sinner, Christ died forme.

    God Bless YouMark McKinnon

As the winter wanes, as least I hopeit is, believe me there is no Global

Warming here in Anchorage, ourthoughts turn to spring. It is a factof life that nothing remains thesame, except of course, with theLord. Change is a part of life whichis certainly re ected in the lives of those who successfully complete the NewLife recovery program here atthe mission. What a horrible thingit would be if people, by the Lordshelp, could not change.

One of the main ingredients that leadto success is ones determination tochange and be willing to step out of the comfort zone that is so appealing. This is true for all of us, not just thosein recovery. We try to teach the menthat there are some things in life thatfor the rest of their lives will alwaysremain off limits. After recovery, one is always in a state of recoveryand has to see many things as notoptions for them. When they are

tempted to drink or use drugs, it wouldhelp, to say to themselves, this is nolonger an option for me, I cant evenconsider it. This idea alone can bringsuccess, for them, and for the rest of us . For example, the next time youare tempted to become angry over aninsigni cant issue, just say to yourself,To become angry over somethinglike this is not an option for me. Justlike when your boss asks you to carry

    Its Notan Option

out a duty, you know that it is notsomething you can debate about andeither do or not do, that is, if you wantto have him/her pleased with your jobperformance.

This afternoon I visited with aformer programmer who left without

graduating, made some poor choicesrooted in his addiction, and is nowincarcerated, looking at several yearsin the state prison system. He said, Iwish I had stayed in the program, andhad changed my way of thinkingIguess I now have some time to think about it. It is a tremendous joy to beable to work with men and see themchange. Certainly not all of them, butthere are always those who have madeup their mind that with Gods help

they are going to have a new life.

Thank you for supporting the missionin so many ways. I look forward tothe day when our Lord will say to you,Well done, thou good and faithfulservant: thou hast been faithful over afew things, I will make thee ruler overmany things: enter thou into the joyof thy Lord. (Matthew 25:21)

The Disciples in the New Life RecoveryProgram here at the Mission have beenafforded a wonderful opportunity in thatas part of the program we are allowedto participate in an in-house bible studythat we conduct on our own. We haveinstituted a small group format thathas been used in various churches aroundthe country. This format has been widelyused with great success in the evangelicalcommunity and is popular with the men inthe program here as well.

Until now our material has been lent tous by friends and family involved in suchsmall group studies and has featuredsuch teachers as Ray Vander Laan (FaithLessons), Bruce Wilkenson (Secrets of theVine), and others. We, however, are about

    A RequestFrom The Men

to exhaust this resource. The thirst for thethings God would teach us is great, and itis truly exciting to see the transformationin the lives of my brothers in Christ asthey begin to apply these lessons in theirdaily walk with the Lord.

At this time we are interested in purchasingthe following teaching materials for oursmall group study to be used in the verynear future. We would greatly appreciateany help in this area as well as your prayersthat God will continue to transform thehearts, minds and lives of the men in theDiscipleship program and to give ourspiritual leaders wisdom, strength, anddiscernment. We continually thank theLord Jesus Christ for you all.

God Raised Him From The Dead!

If Christ was not alive and there was noresurrection we would surely agree with Paul as hewrote in I Corinthians 15:19, If in this life onlywe have hope in Christ, we are of all men mostmiserable.

Yes He lives and you can live forever withHim too if you will only come to Him by faith witha repentant heart, confess Him as your Savior andbelieve that He will save you if you ask Him. Itis just that simple. God providing salvation for uswas not cheap, It cost the Son of God His lifebutit is free! Trust Him today even NOW! Listen to the words of this song:

Living He loved me,Dying He saved me,

Buried He carried my Sins ar away.Rising He justi ed,

    Freely orever,One Day He coming,

    O glorious day!

Yes, one day soon he is returning for those thataccepted His as their Lord and Savior. I say soonbecause the signs of the time point to His soonreturn. If it were todaywould you be ready. If you need to talk to someone call the Mission.

raise God the Savior lives. He was Victoriousover death, hell and the grave just as He saidHe would be. And because He lives we also

will live for ever with Him in the place that He hasprepared for us that Paul described in I Corinthians2:9 when he said, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, thethings that God hath prepared for them that loveHim.

On that rst Easter morning when God raisedChrist from the dead it sealed our salvation andgave us hope for everlasting lifebecause He liveswe that have put our faith in Him and acceptedHim as our Savior will live also together with Himforever.Satan thought he had won the victory when he sawChrist dead on the crosshow disappointed hemust have felt when he saw Christ Alive and welland talking with Mary in the garden on that rstEaster morning.

Now we too are more than conquerors overdeath, hell and the grave because He lives. Someproofs that God raised Him from the dead are these;the broken seal on the stone, the stone rolled away

from the opening of the tomb, the grave clothesand the empty tomb. If you need more proof thanthese, ask any Christian. He will tell you that HeLives, He Lives not only in heaven seated at theright hand of the Father but He also lives in theirheart.

The CallAs Easter approaches and I look on the events we are celebratingit puts a great sense of gratitude inmy heart. The Living God lovedme so much that He sent is onlybegotten son to pay a price I couldnever pay.

What a love! Me, a sinner!

Even my very best efforts of beingrighteous are as lthy rags to theAlmighty God.

Thank you Jesus Christ for yourblood that washes us white as snowand claims us as yours.

We have been saved by grace, however we are then called to dogood works.

I read a story in The Daily Breadsome time back which made thisstatement very real to me:

A pastor in Los Angeles visited a man and asked if he was aChristian. Oh, yes, I was amember of a church in Ohio, hesaid, and when I asked for myletter of church membership beforecoming west, I sat down and wroteout my Christian experience. I took them both and put them in a littlebox. I would like to show themto you. But when he got the boxit was evident that a mouse had gnawed its way into the container and destroyed the papers. Hesaid to the pastor, I have lost my Christian experience and mychurch letter.

If all the man lost was those twodocuments, it was not a great loss.

Many people put great stock in abaptismal certi cate or a churchletter, however they have neverexperienced a personal relationshipwith Jesus Christ our Lord andSavior. We serve The ResurrectedJesus Christ who is alive and seatedat the right hand of the Father.

God has given all of us gifts andtalents, and a testimony. We are notto lock those heavenly treasuresaway where they will deteriorate. There is a reason for everything wehad to walk through in our life.

God has called every Believer touse these gift and talents for Hisglory and to share our testimonywith the world.

We are to be the light in thedarkness that draws a lost soul toour Lord Jesus Christ.

If we have faith in our Lord andbelieve His word we all are able tofollow the Call.

Because He lives I can facetomorrow may that be the faiththat is seen in me to encourageothers to trust The Living Savior.

    In Jesus NameAmen
