Pastor’s Message – June 2018 If you missed church yesterday (May 20) you missed a fabulous celebration of worship, the music was outstanding and

shared by all the talented folks who have been with us at different times this year. They ALL joined voices in one

beautiful choir and we were not disappointed. It was a wonderful day of worship.

Following this great service, we enjoyed a meal of good food and fellowship provided by the Hospitality Committee.

Where do we go from here?

It is SUMMER, and I don’t even feel like we have experienced Spring yet, but off we go into the summer

months which bring many different things for each of us.

For some it means vacations and time away.

For others it means being outside and caring for our lawns and flower gardens.

For others it means summer sports with our children or grandchildren.

For others just, quiet time outside enjoying sunshine and warmth.

Whatever summer means to you one thing is important to remember it doesn’t mean a vacation from church and from

God.

Summer is a perfect opportunity to spend time experiencing God when we are out in nature and see His creation in all of

its beauty.

Summer is a time while we are soaking up the warmth that we read His word and listen for His voice in our quiet morning

or afternoon tea or coffee.

God is with us every season of the year but in the summer, we do have more opportunity to see Him at work in a different

setting.

Again, this summer we will be worshipping in the comfort of air conditioning in room 201. I know it is not our beautiful

sanctuary, but it will be comfortable in the heat of the summer and I always enjoy the intimacy we experience when we

worship there together.

Please come, knowing the music will be uplifting,

God’s word will be shared in challenging ways

and just maybe God will have a surprise in store for you.

May God’s sunshine warm your heart and soul this summer.

Pastor Dottie

SESSION MINUTES – May 15, 2018

The Session took the following actions: 1. Approved the purchase of two new office chairs at a price of $290.00 per chair from Dan’s Office

Supplies & Furniture. 2. Granted permission for the Building & Grounds committee to purchase five (5) exit lights and one (1)

wrap gifts as a fundraiser for the Samaritan House.

Items of information discussed but no official actions necessary: 1. Summer Worship in Room 201 begins on Sunday, June 10, 2018 instead of June 3, 2018. 2. October 21, 2018 is the date set for the Rodney Barbour concert (organist). 3. Discussed security issues with the boiler. 4. Books will be handed out to Head Start students on May 23rd at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. 5. Establish a courtyard greeters’ roster for Sunday mornings. 6. We will review the financial status of the church for 2018 and at a later date update the congregation.

MISSIONS – OUR PROJECTS Your Mission Committee served dinner to 44 men on May 7th. We served beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and cookies. Thanks to Diane Gallaher, Sharon Savill, and Flossie Jackson for cooking and furnishing food. Also, to Craig Gallaher and Susara Smuts for helping with serving and clean up. Sure do appreciate all the help. We are in the midst of our hygiene kit collection for the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Right now looks like we have items enough for 15-20 kits. The committee will be sorting, packing and shipping them on May 30th. Our members continue their volunteer work at West Ohio Food Bank and as readers for Head Start classes. Future plans for service to others include collecting school supplies for the Salvation Army later this summer and a gift wrapping project to benefit Samaritan House on December 14th and 15th in Fellowship Hall. So be aware, as the gift giving season comes and we will wrap your gifts for a donation to Samaritan House. Maybe we will have refreshments to offer clients and/or a bake sale to raise additional monies? Keep watching for notices and announcements as these projects draw closer. In April, we sent donations to Allen County Christian Aid, Christian Bicycle Consortium, Samaritan House, Crossroads Crisis Center, and Lima Rescue Mission of $200.00 each. This left a balance of $2000.00 in our annual budget. Karen Jarvis for the Mission Committee

JOURNEYS GRIEF SUPPORT MEETINGS

You Are Invited! to Journeys Grief Support Meetings on the 1st Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Primrose Retirement Community Wellness Center in Lima. Journeys’ is a group for men and women who have experienced the death of a loved one. Journeys will help family and friends learn to live with the isolation and loneliness by providing an opportunity to meet together and develop supportive relationships that will encourage

sharing of feelings in a safe environment. Through sharing similar circumstances with a group facilitator, the group will find emotional support and encouragement along with a better understanding of the grieving process. This is offered free of charge to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. Please contact Julie Mason at 419-523-4449 or [email protected] with any questions you may have. If you would like to know more about the organization, please visit the website at www.pchh.net.
