ARTISAN 4.0™

Future proof your career as an artisan with CTC’s unique ARTISAN 4.0™ program, brought to you in collaboration with a leading automation technology provider.

The Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 is everywhere. These advancements in technology are inevitable and will touch us all in mining, manufacturing, engineering and logistics. It will definitely touch the work of artisans. Automation is central to this trend, including robotic applications and the Internet of Things. ARTISAN 4.0™ skills are required to handle highly skilled work with machines that are interconnected and communicating with humans. While these technologies sweep across workplaces and redefine business models, there is an opportunity to prepare yourself or your organisation for the future with CTC’s ARTISAN 4.0™ program. The program is offered in four phases.

Phase 1. Introducing ARTISAN 4.0™(36-48 hours. Fee: Free) This is an open and online training program consisting of 5 courses. The purpose of this phase is to get Artisans and potential artisans interested in and committed to the fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0) and to prime them with certain essential skills needed to complete the course. IR 4.0 is not a threat to artisans; it is an opportunity. At the end of each course, online tests or practical simulated tasks must be passed to progress to the next level. Go to https://ctc.emhost.org to register on the CTC site and then enrol yourself for these courses: (After clicking on an Artisan 4.0™ Phase 1 course, you will be prompted to create a new account. Click ‘Create new account’ and provide your details. You may have to wait for 24 hours for an e-mail confirmation.

The Phase 1 courses are:

• Introduction to ARTISAN 4.0™Here we answer the following questions: Who is CTC? What is the Fourth Industrial Revolution? What is in the ARTISAN 4.0™program? What are the four digital skills that you need now to be on the program? What are the next steps?

• Problem Solving and Thinking Skills In this course we cover some important thinking and problem-solving strategies needed in a digital world of work and in everyday life. The “five whys”; Fishbone diagrams; Circuit logic problems; Resistance measurement problems; Introduction to Computer programming with Scratch.

“Scratch” is used by Major Universities to train students in the basics of programming

…prepare yourself or your organisation for the future with CTC’s ARTISAN 4.0™ program…

…Phase 1 is free and open to all…

Phase 2. Taking your training as ARTISAN 4.0™to The Next Level. (+24 hours. Fee: R4 326.30) This phase is also on-line, but numbers will have to be restricted to ensure that enough spaces are available for the lab work required during the Phase 3 10-day Workshop at CTC. The purpose of this phase is to give learners the prerequisite knowledge to be able to do the practical Workshop phase at CTC. See the Phase 2 Orientation course here or go to our Moodle site at ctc.emhost.org (Click Login as Guest if you don’t have access yet.)

• Automation Systems Introduction to automation in a factory or plant environment; Introductory Course on IEC 61131-3; PLC Basics; Introduction to the Sysmac Automation platform; IEC 6113-3 Compliant ST Language Basics; Introduction to Ladder Programming; Sysmac Studio Operation; NA Basic Operation

• Networks Introduction to Automation Open Networks; Fundamentals of Electricity for Industrial Automation; Omron FA Network Basics; EtherCAT Basics; EtherNet/IP Basics

• Power Supply, Relay and Switches Power Supplies; General Purposes Relays • Safety Components Introduction to Safety; Safety Light Curtain Basics; Safety Interlock Basics

• Sensors Photoelectric Sensors; Proximity Sensors; Fibre Optic Sensors; Displacement and Measurement Sensors • Drives and Control Components AC Drives Basics; Temperature Controller Basics

At the conclusion of this phase an ARTISAN 4.0™ Phase 2 The Next Level certificate will be issued.

Phase 3. ARTISAN 4.0™Workshop (+80 hours. Fee: R18 026.25) This phase will comprise a 10-day practical workshop at CTC where the practical aspects of the work covered in Phase 2 of the training, is covered on simulators at CTC.

• Hands-on introduction to Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) Mobile robots are becoming an integral part of future-oriented workplaces. They are versatile machines that can support a variety of material handling tasks. The Omron TM5-700 Cobot is paired with a LD90 AMR as an example of a robotic system to give learners a general introduction of such systems. The knowledge gained here can be generalized to various environments where robotic systems are deployed. The following outcomes will be achieved by learners by the end of the course: Understand Basic Robotic Concepts Be able to automate the AMR / Cobot system Successfully deploy the AMR / Cobot system to perform a specific task

Knowledge of the data and information requirements of the robot system

Perform a material handling task that requires safe Human Machine collaboration

The Phase 2 courses are an entry requirement into this workshop. At the conclusion of this phase an ARTISAN 4.0™Phase 3

Workshop certificate will be issued.

Phase 4. ARTISAN 4.0™On the Job . (Fee: R590.54) A certification fee will be required to evaluate the final presentation before we issue candidates with the ARTISAN 4.0™Phase 4 On the Job certificate.

In this phase, the candidate must present a report on a project that requires ARTISAN 4.0™ skills. The presentation will be evaluated by technically qualified supervisory staff and other subject matter experts and must give evidence that the ARTISAN 4.0™ content can be practically applied on the job.

(CTC retains the right to limit the numbers of students enrolled in any of these courses and to alter the content or scope of the material without notice. People that have trained with CTC will be given preference and employers who currently make use of CTC as their training

provider, will be given preference. These courses are not accredited – it is CTC’s intention to deliver skills that satisfy industry and employer requirements, not the prescripts of uninformed persons.)
