More Village Center Art Coming In the upcoming weeks the Art Department will be changing some of the

art currently on display in the Village Center. Over the last year some of

the student art has started to fade and others were purchased at the Dec.

1st art show.

Be on the look out for new artwork on display. It should be up real soon!

Adem’s “Winter Elf” can be seen at right. Additional examples of

of the Andersonian and on display outside the Art Room (Rm.

Adult Services and AEC Art Show On Dec. 1st Anderson Center’s Adult Services

and AEC Art Education Programs had their first

group art exhibit, “Do You See What I See.” . It was

held at the LCS Building (36 Cottage Street) in

Poughkeepsie (NY).

There was a steady stream of visitors to the show. I

enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with the fam-

ily’s of some of your artists, including Mikaila C’s

(Rm. 120) grandmother and the parents of Johnny R.

(Rm. 306). Thanks for Coming!

Our Noteworthy Cards were also on display at the

Art Show. I am happy to say that they were very well

received by those in attendance.

The show and cards were such a success that they will

continue to be on display at the LCS Building until

the end of January.

Thanks to all those that volunteered for the show

and congratulations to all of the artists. Without all of

your hard work there wouldn’t have been an art show.

Artist Birthdays for December

Winter Elves Recently students have been hard at work making the colorful “Winter Elves” that you will be

seeing around the school building. Below is a short description of the steps and techniques.

On Day 1 students began the project by creating the “Elves’ Shirt and Hat.” This was done

by first coloring a piece of white drawing paper with crayons. Over this students painted white

paint using a paintbrush. They then placed strips of newspaper across the freshly painted pa-

per to mask areas. Students then painted (with a color of their choice) over the top of entire

paper. When finished, they removed the newspaper strips to reveal the striped pattern.

On Day 2 the students painted the “Elves’ Head” and the “Background”. This was done by

using a stencil of the “Head” shape, paint and brushes. After this was completed, they re-

moved the stencil and chose another color paint to paint around the outside of their “Elf” to

create the background.

And on Day 3, students completed their “Elves” by tracing “Hat” and “Shirt” shapes onto

the back of the striped paintings they created on Day 1. They then used scissors to cut the

shapes out . They used glue to attach the shapes to the “Elf Heads” they created on Day 2.

Later they used tissue paper, construction paper, and sequins to decorate their Elves.
