Building on the success of its range of onwall and inwall speakers, ArtSound developed a complete 100 V line. It may be a traditional design, but even so, it's slightly more than what you expect from us. For powering these loudspeakers, ArtSound recently teamed up with JEDIA, a world player in the design of 100 V amplifiers and accessories. This partnership has brought about a complete and manageable range of products that provides an answer to any question.

Unknown, unloved This is certainly the case for 100 V applications. A PA environment is highly flexible. Such a system enables you to operate a number of loudspeakers, to create various zones, to integrate microphones and to transmit alarms or digital messages with just a single bus or cable.

ArtSound has designed a series of specific 100 V products. After all, as market leader in loudspeakers, it was no more than could be asked of us. And the baseline ‘Smart solutions in audio’ leaves no room for doubt: a 100 V environment demands ArtSound too. For that reason, we've de-signed a number of new loudspeakers, both onwall and inwall models. But that's not all: we also have interfaces and audio distribution systems, all with an eye for detail, ease of use and, most of all, safety.

As the odd-one-out in the 100 V market, we not only try to keep our range as exclusive as possible, but as wide-ranging too. This means that we can apply ourselves to as many problems and situations as much as possible with a select range of products. For more specific applications - for example, underwater speakers - we work together with specialised partners and come up with new custom-made solutions together with our Project Support division. It goes without saying that the control of these speakers must be optimal. In order to tackle this aspect properly, ArtSound has entered a into a partnership with Jedia, world leader in the design of 100 V amplifiers, microphones and other accessories. This strategic partnership gives you the guarantee of an integrated solution which ensures no concessions are made to customised levels of quality.In other words, by sharing our responsibilities with other specialists, we can stay on top of any problem, any specific request and any situation, through the application of know-how.

The creation of a 100 Vsetting gives you an

opportunity to distribute loudspeakers over larger areas and to control and

regulate them easily. So with a 100 V installation it’s possible to use a large number of speakers (> 12) in various zones, over larger

distances.

Yes, but on the other hand, no, since we have made a conscious decision to keep our product range as simple as possible. The product range consists exclusively of ‘all-in’ systems. With just two or three combinations, it's possible to create a total solution. For larger industrial projects, some degree of expertise is required, but that's why we have a Project Support division. DOES 100 V REQUIRE SPECIAL KNOW-HOW?

However, bear in mind the following rules of thumb:

• The ideal distance between the 100 V loudspeakers is 6 to 8 metres at the most (depending on the sound pressure, ceiling height, floor quality, etc.)

• Some sound sources must be focussed, others diffuse. For that reason, the type of speaker is extremely important.

• Power in 100 V has a different ratio than for conventional home use (8 ohm).

• The number of loudspeakers and their power determine the minimum capacity of the amplifier required.

• You need only one cable to regulate all the loudspeakers (series switch).

• Each loudspeaker can build its own volume accent thanks to manual power selection.

Easy Packs

Easy packs are not all-in kits that you buy over the counter. They are not large boxes ready for picking up at the store. So what are they?

We have a selection of different packs. In each pack, the focus is on the distribution of music. Various functions can be integrated into these packs: • A simple PA system, for example, for three zones.• A general PA system which can be activated from different zones.• A selective PA system which can be activated from one central location.• A general PA system with various sources, with central control. • An audio distribution system with various sources and 4 zones,

operated locally and selectively. • An audio distribution system with various sources and 8 zones,

operated locally and selectively. • An audio distribution system with various sources, divided into 4 zones,

operated locally.

Easy packs are examples of cases which we use in everyday situations. Each situation of course, is unique. However, in all the requests we get, certain commonalities exist, which we try to categorise into headlines, each with their own structure. These easy packs help put these clearly in the picture. At a glace, you can see which structure provides the answer to any question.

This (local) store has various sections: food, drink, toys, etc. The shop is successful thanks to the good team spirit. With a limited number of staff, the store is still able to guarantee high levels of service to customers. But each member of staff must be flexible enough to work on other sections.

That means someone can be called up to work on the check-out as well as in the refrigeration cell. What's more, the volume of music might be turned down in the offices, whilst in the car park it can be much louder. Each zone can be given its own accent.

In this therapy centre, there should be a possibility to call up someone in the sports hall from reception, without interrupting lessons in the other zones.

In this therapy centre, two zones were created. The waiting room and the therapy room. In the therapy room, the music often has to be changed to suit the requirements of the patient. The waiting room on the other hand, has a radio station as its permanent source. The next patient is called in by means of a PA microphone. A simple setting with plenty of different options.

All our audio distribution systems can be perfectly combined with 100 V applications. For example, via the audio output, you can connect up a JPA-4120 power amplifi er. This means you have 4 100 V zones. For the Art2.4, we developed a special interface.

You can of course, choose specifc 100 V zones (e.g. where there are a lot of loudspeakers) and leave others as low-ohm zones (where there are only a few speakers).

In the various arrangements (e.g. easypacks) it is sometimes necessary to convert a signal to another structure. In this way it is possible to allow two devices to faultlessly communicate with each other. Or to convert a low-ohm speaker to a 100 V version.

As previously indicated, any of our loudspeakers can be converted in an instant into a PA or 100 V loudspeaker. To do this, you will need one of these two transformers. For normal use, the T20 will suffice, enabling you to select your own wattage to a maximum of 20 W.

• The signal converter JLC-100 (100 V - audio to line) was specially developed to convert a 100 V PA signal to a line input signal. This makes it possible to insert an additional amplifier with a line input equal to the 100 V line.

• Thanks to the combination of various jumper arrangements in the device and the trim-potentiometer which is accessible from out-side, the JLC-100 can be adapted to almost any electrical PA unit.

• The JLC-100 works in passive mode, which means that it needs no operating voltage.

Connecting the loudspeakersThere are two ways to use or connect loudspeakers. The most well-known is the low impedance version (4 or 8 Ohm). This means that the impedance level of the loudspeaker corresponds to that of the amplifier. This method is usually used in homes, for short distances, such as for hi-fi systems.The second method is the so-called 100 V method. Connecting up your loudspeakers in this way can be compared to con-necting up your household appliances. This enables you to connect up various devices in parallel over longer distances, on condition that the loudspeakers have a 100 V transformer. In other words, you have a cable that runs from one speaker to the next.

It is important to remember that:• Each loudspeaker must have its own transformer fitted.• Each loudspeaker must have a certain capacity (power and dB), de-

pending on the ambient space, the ambient noise, type of use, type of floor covering, etc.

• The total capacity of all the speakers together must form the basis for the capacity of the amplifier that is to be connected up. Take an extra margin of 10% over and above this.

Local volume control: A local volume control can be placed in between the amplifier and the loudspeaker(s). The volume control mutes the strength of the signal before it reaches the loudspeaker.

Adjusting the loudpeaker: For most loudspeakers you have a choice between switching or connect-ing to a specific capacity (e.g. 5-10-15Watt). The capacity you choose depends on the room and the capacity of the amplifier. It allows you to create volume accents in particular rooms without volume controls having to be installed. It's important to investigate this beforehand when you choose the amplifier.

The thickness of the cable must correspond to the distance that it must bridge between the amplifier and the loudspeaker. This handy table provides you with a summary (value is maximum distance in km) :

Masking effects, invisible but important

A masking effect is said to occur when the perception of music is reduced by other ambient sounds. As a general rule of thumb, the noise level of 6 dB must be higher than the background noise. However, in order to listen properly, we would rec-ommend taking a difference of 10 dB into account for background music. If you want to integrate spoken messages, there must be a difference of 20 dB.
