My instruments name

My musical instrument is called Verre. Verre means “Glass” in French. I called my instrument this because I wanted to have a simple name but with a twist.

I firstly cleaned my glass. I then decorated my musical instrument with Rhine Stones and Sticky Ribbon, which made it much more interesting. After I finished decorating, I filled my glass half full with water.

Difficulties At first I found it very hard to make a sound. My finger kept slipping of the rim of the glass, but after a few attempts I mastered it. I also found it difficult to find an interesting sound and make an instrument. It was the planning and musical stages that I found the hardest, also when I decorated my glass it altered the sound so I had to redecorate my glass.

Making Sound

My instrument makes a sound by my wet finger rubbing against the rim, which creates a high pitch sound like a violin. The Verre can make different sounds using the same technique, but it is quite hard to. It can also change the sound when you tap a spoon or a different object on the side of the glass. The edges of the wine glass vibrate when I move my finger, because of the force. You can’t see the glass vibrating because the vibrations are so tiny, but I can feel them if I hold the glass. Sometimes you might see ripples in the water, depending on how much force you apply to the glass.

Family Instruments

The Verre fits into the percussion family. This is because I am rubbing my finger on the rim. All instruments that are in the percussion family, make sound if you hit, shake, scrape or rub the instrument.
