OPENING CEREMONY & PEACE RITUALVenue: Hilltop Time: 10 AM

Introduction:

Host : “Kalilintad, Kalinaw, Kapayapaan: Handog ng Alpano sa mga Pilipino at sa Buong Mundo.” The theme of today’s 7th Mindanao Summit is not only fitting as the venue had been the headlines of local, national and even international news, but it is timely as well, for we Alphans, we are called upon to play a very important role in restoring and bringing back the original creation given to us by God which humanity has plundered and abused. The many natural catastrophic events that shook us these few weeks has challenged us Alphans to once and for all make a positive difference by saying YES to Mother Earth, thus our mission today. We should spearhead the quest for attainable solutions in establishing a peaceful environement today and for the years to come.

My brothers and sisters in Alpha Sigma Phi, welcome to the historic place of the municipality of Pikit! The town is the first American Agricultural Colony in 1913. Our culture has been so diverse, yet Christians and Muslims live in harmony with each other, and respect of cultural and religious practices are ideally exercised.

Recently, just like any other place in Mindanao, the quest for lasting peace has been so elusive. We have experienced series of wars, mass evacuations and lost lives and properties. We have seen the separation of families and love ones. We have seen how friends turned strangers due to these monstrous and ugly faces of war.

Page 4: ASP Final Program Summit 2009

We are gathered here on this 7th Mindanao Summit representing the tri-people- ONE PEOPLE of Alpha Sigma Phi. We had pioneered in establishing good relationships with one another- Christians, Muslims and Lumads. We had been an ideal community in Mindanao and the whole Philippines. Our circle of influence has even reached places in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and in the United States of America. We Alphans are peace-loving and today, we will pledge to continue to become catalysts of change in our respective community!

Now we pledge to commit to reach out others. We commit to make a radical move to restore the wounded Mother Earth through bringing back the glory of the “Land of Promise”, the land of abundance and of peace loving people.

One in minds, hearts and souls, let us strive to go out from our exclusive circle and be a man and woman for others, as we continue to walk, march and sail towards heaven- in peace and in love.

Brief moment of silence...

(kulintang instrumental music- a Maguindanaon brass instrument)

SONG : Let there be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with us. Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.

With God our Creator. Alphans all are we. Let us walk with each other. In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with us, let this be the moment now. With every step I take, let this be our solemn vow.

To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth. And let it begin with us!

Leader : Let us now invoke the blessings of God through our prayers:

INVOCATION : a. Muslim Prayer - c/o b. Lumad - c/o c. Christian - c/o Luz Dianon Sahidsahid

HOISTING OF PEACE FLAG

Leader 1 : ( Representative from Davao) Kalinaw! This is defined as more than the absence of war. Kalinaw- it means seeing members in the family in peace and in harmony. Kalinaw- it means food in the table. Kalinaw- where justice and equality prevails. Kalinaw- it means wellness, free from all forms of sickness. Kalinaw- it means seeing children come to school and enjoy the sun and rain. Kalinaw- it means equal opportunity under the blessing of a democratic country. Kalinaw...

Leader 2 : (Representative from Cotabato) Kalilintad! This can be achieved through a peaceful round table discussion. Kalilintad- where one’s religious practices are respected and each is free to worship the God he or she believes in. Kalilintad- where Christians, Muslims and Lumads call each other as Brothers and Sisters. Kalilintad – where people sleep soundly at night and nothing

Page 5: ASP Final Program Summit 2009

will disturbed the dream of every Mindanaoans. Kalilintad – where hatred and anger is not heard of. Kalilintad...

Leader 3 : (Representative from Marawi) Kapayapaan! The best gift we could offer to every Filipinos and to the whole world. Kapayapaan- it means seeing an eagle in the sky, a deer in the forest, a whale frolicking in the oceans, a farmer enjoying an abundant harvest in the fields. Kapayapaan- where season is at it’s best; where summer is enjoyed in the best resorts and tourist spots around the country while rainy season brings good promise to those who till the land. Kapayapaan – seeing Mother Earth green, the ocean in its crystal blue, and the sky in its heavenly splendor! Kapayapaan...

Host : Let us now witness the hoisting of the Peace Flag, followed by the release of Doves and Peace Balloons.

(HOISTING OF PEACE FLAG, RELEASE OF DOVES AND BALLOONS)

Host : Alpha Sigma Phi Pikit Alumni Association Officers and Members together with our National President, Reynaldo –Dy- Reyes, will now raise the Alpha Sigma Phi Peace Flag signalling the formal opening of the 7th Alpha Sigma Phi Mindanao Summit with its summit theme: “Kalilintad, Kalinaw, Kapayapaan: Handog ng Mga Alpano sa mga Pilipino at sa Buong Mundo” while all of us will sing our Anthem, “Oh Hail, Alpha Sigma Phi.”

Sining Alpanu Para sa Kapayapaan:A Poster Making Contest

7th Mindanao SummitNovember 21-22, 2009

Theme: “Kalilintad, Kalinaw, Kapayapaan:Handog ng Alpano sa Pilipino At Sa Buong Mundo”

Our theme for this year’s summit is very timely. It is time to make a positive difference in our lives and in the community. While we believe that Alpha Sigma Phi pioneered in inter-ethnic dialogue and conflict transformation, it is not enough that we will limit ourselves within the exclusive walls of the Mystic Circle. We are better men and women because we make the lives of others better… and because we answer the piece of peace!

There is a greater challenge that awaits in us and we have always been called, encouraged and challenged to take part actively in all sorts of peace undertakings particularly in

Mindanao. Since most people recalled the potent forces of the young as well as the adults to make a difference, it is therefore proper to bring forth venues and opportunities for all Alphans where their talents can be maximized, appreciated and affirmed.

Citing Bishops-Ulamas Conference Joint Statement: “…if peace has to be brought up personally to Mindanao by every Mindanawon, this needs an aspiration that must influence the individual thoughts and feelings of us all.”

With this, ASP Pikit Alumni Association being the host of this year’s 7th Mindanao Summit on November 21- 22, 2009 calls for all (undergraduates and alumni members) to take the challenge in taking part in whatever forms of peace efforts available at hand and get involved in the Poster Making Activity – following the theme: Kalilintad, Kalinaw, Kapayapaan: Handog ng Alpano sa Pilipino at sa Buong Mundo.

Alpha Sigma Phi desires for all to become the true witnesses of love, hope, reconciliation and peace in all people of Mindanao by using their talents and abilities in art-making. Through this effort, they can make relevant contributions for a lasting peace in Mindanao. This is our fitting gift to all Filipinos and to the whole world!

Context ASP-PAA (ASP Pikit Alumni Association) aimed for active participation of all for making of a successful 7th Alpha Sigma Phi Mindanao Summit;

ASP-PAA has desired to facilitate this activity that would tap the interest of all in art making;

ASP-PAA would be especially extending their network to the undergraduate participants that eventually become leaders of their own by providing them more opportunities in peace making through art-related activities.
