Sl. Initiative

1. Monitoring Continuous monitoring of availability of inputs in all the corners of the State.

2. Expansion of area

Area under Pulses increased by 6%.

Area cultivated twice or more is estimated to be increased from 13.49 lakh hectare in 2011-12 to 14.06 lakh hectare in 2012-13.

Cropping Intensity is expected to increase from 148% to 150% during the same period.

3. Popularization of Hybrid & HYV Rice cultivation

Area under Hybrid Rice area increased from 0.24 lakh hectares in 2011-12 to 0.97 lakh hectares 2012-13.

An additional area of 12 thousand hectares brought under HYV Rice during 2012-13.

4. Distribution of Quality Seeds

5.68 lakh quintals of quality seeds provided to farmers (including 5.52 lakh quintals of Foodgrain seeds) during 2012-13.

0.28 lakh quintal Foodgrain Seeds provided to farmers affected by natural calamities.

5. Expansion of area under Assured Irrigation

Additional assured irrigation facilities of 0.71 lakh hectares created during 2012-13 through installation of Pump Sets.

6. Enhancing Farm Power

Additional farm power of 0.11 HP per hectare generated in 2012-13 through distribution of 548 nos. of Tractors, 3110 nos. of Power Tillers & 35396 nos. of Pump sets.

Introduced new machineries like Paddy Transplanter, Self Propelled Reaper, Potato Planter & Digger ect.

Assam's soil is deficient in Micronutrients.

16,500 quintals of Micronutrients applied in 1.58 lakh hectares farmers fields to maintain soil health.

12,153 hectares covered under Green Manuring Crop to improve soil fertility status for sustainable production.

8. Credit Agriculture credit provided to 2.66 lakh farm families (9.8% of total farm families) through distribution of Kisan Credit cards.

Regular interaction with Banks for improvement of credit delivery system.

9. Extension All extension functionaries were geared up by regular supervision at various levels.

Demonstrations under various schemes were the best source of dissemination.

A. POWER :

Coordination with ASEB has helped electrical connections to the farmers faster.

That is how 41,100 nos. of Electrical Pump Sets could be installed in the last two years (2011-12 & 2012-13).

B. IRRIGATION :

Agriculture Production Commissioner is also the Principal Secretary, Irrigation Department.

Mapping of all irrigation projects completed.

Arrangement made to harness irrigation water for double multiple cropping in command areas.

Future Strategies

Increasing productivity through technological interventions.

Emphasis on irrigation through Shallow Tube Wells will continue to bring more areas under assured irrigation.

Additional 1.37 lakh hectares will be brought under Hybrid Rice cultivation during 2013-14 to ensure food security.

Emphasis on mechanization to ensure farm power availability of 1.25 HP per hectare at the end of 2013-14.

Extension through training & demonstration will be strengthened further.

Bankers will be persuaded to extend credit to farmers in bigger way.
