“My work schedule.”“Time.”These are some answers people gave when asked, “what’s the greatest barrier” to participating in bringing up a great loving family? Why they’re valuable, and how to increase participation to make more valuable family time?.How we should see that 60 minutes of our life each day invested in our family and children will really make a difference.“What I really appreciated was getting objective feedback on ways we could be more passion about family and children. People still seem to not know our programs. They know having a family and children but couldn’t really cite specific ways to grow together.”Inside this issue, we’ve put an emphasis on moments with out love ones, it can be in a relationship with our spouse, our children and even how the community work together to cater the needs of a family here in Bali. If you can’t commit to family community program, there may be creative times and ways to invest on a family session into your day.The statistic study of how 60 minutes can make a change got me thinking of my habits.I changed my exercise routine to morning, before work, because I kept finding excuses in the evening. I changed the time I spend on my smart gadgets and how real conversation makes a difference. What’s your routine? With the New Year upon us, now is a great time to plan for making your family and children a priority in 2015.

Bali Eye Opener Magazine’s soft launch party. Slippers, shorts, bouncing castle, beach waves, giggles, laughter, fire dancers and the festive ambiance, that’s probably best words to describe the afternoon.

Every corner children and family are having the variety choice of fun. In the venue lots of space for everyone to stand or lay back on the green grass while having some great

BACK IN THAT MONTH

BEO SOft LAunCHInG PARty By Dedi Kristian

At the tip of year 2014, it marked the soft launch of our magazine Bali Eye Opener, we had a cool calming music, good food, family fun day, the fire dance and all to celebrate the first issue of the magazine.

Under the warmth tropical heat of Bali, people walk down to the gorgeous open air area of Kaki Lima By The Sea, in BatuBolong Beach’s, to reveal together the

refreshment offered by Kaki Lima , the children enjoy the moments running around to explore the grass field, until then they are attracted by Ceremco the magician with a bag of tricks. A reason to relax and get in the fun is when you can get some massage at Cleopatra’s massage chairs, getting your children do the twist with the cooking class from the Monsieur’s Spoon, or slide and jump into the bouncing castle to officially call it a family day. Of course some chillin tunes from the band, dancers swinging and fire dance that closed the evening is also the reason for the party worth remembering.

Bali Eye Opener is the Bali’s first family-oriented magazine, highlighting the close family value, What’s good in Canggu, Batubelig, Umalas, Kerobokan, Pererenan and nearby. Therefore we managed to move our passion to bring Bali family to find more and more information for daily or key inquiries, from what’s going on, the hype, food reviews, parenting topics, and of course the beauty of the island.

COMMUNITY STORY

At CAnGGu CLuBWell known as one of Canggu’s landmark, Canggu Club continues to appeal themselves as the center of activity, entertainment, sports, and family. The “New” Canggu Club said to be the Canggu’s premiere entertainment and sporting venue where everyone is welcome. The latest addition is Splash Water Park, Bounce Trampoline Centre, Strike Ten Pin Bowling and Cubby House Kids Club, multiple of restaurants, and the door is open for both day pass guests and members. COMMUNITY STORY

It is hard to miss the place if you’re riding from north through Jalan Pantai Berawa in Canggu, the new face of Canggu Club is now in the neighborhood with a wider arms open with a bit of something for everyone. Might be the best place to spend a full day of fun and sports with a family, in the same time many choices for individual to have that bit of excitement in the island. Set on a sprawling 4 hectare estate amongst the rice fields of Canggu and yet only a 10 minute drive to Seminyak. The fun/activity could be anything from Fitness Centre, Waterpark, Ten Pin Bowling, Trampoline Centre and even Tennis Court.

As a start, the new Splash Waterpark, perhaps the most popular at the moment, where everyone can enjoy some of the slides, starting from ‘Giant Racer’ – a 5 story high and 90 meters long slide where you can have up to four friends racing at the same time, where at the finish line you can check your speed as the speedometer displays speed and places.Next thing is the ‘Speed Racer’ – designed for younger kids. This speed slide is a smaller version so it’s the right place for them.Other slides include the ‘Super Bowl’ and ‘Big Red’ plus there’s a Crazy Creek if you or your children decide to continue the amusement.

After all the fun of water splashing, take a step to the Bounce Bali, most likely the first Trampoline Centre in Bali, spring-loaded framesis there for anyone to bounce, flip, high or with style with safety, for it is an area with 360 degrees of trampolines covered by 2-inch thick safety pad. Numbers of organized activities is quite suitable for you to have a group outing on a dodge ball game against each other, or throw a trampoline party.

There’s a restaurant if you crave for some chow down after an exciting physical activity.

In the same building you should put your bowling shoes on at Strike Ten Pin Bowling Bali, it is said to be a modern tenpin bowling you should experience in Bali especially when you’re in the ‘Gu’ area. A venue with 6 lanes with automatic pinsetters complete with a computerized scoring system if you have high spirit for competition. There are bumpers for the kids (or anyone else) to stop the ball going into the gutter. They also offer varied entertainment options – themed nights, birthday parties, corporate events, bucks parties, date night to connect with family and friends. Let’s say it could be a good place to call it a good hangout and get active.

Canggu Club should be also the favorite place for the little ones, just near at the Bounce’s zone entrance you’d find Cubby House Kids Club, a lively and stimulating environment where children can play and learn at the same time where the facility is safe and secure, leaving parents free to enjoy some quality time knowing that the kids will be well taken care of. It is available for 2 to 12 year olds and offers a huge range of quality toys and activities to keep children entertained for hours, plus a service of healthy option meals that can be provided with some treats.

Other facilities such the The Soccer Field, Tennis Court, Fitness Centre, Business Centre, Sports Bar are just more reason to spend a good active and fun time in the island. So we’d say Canggu Club is where to go for all the good fun activities mentioned above.

Raising a child means growing needs to help them nurture and learn as much as they can. And you want them to have the joy at the

same time. Toys is one of many list of what they ‘want’, and you will decide to make it happen until it becomes what they ‘need’. Here’s some clue of where to get some of good toys in Canggu and Kerobokan neighborhood. And when it comes the time to style-up the little ones, read on for children-friendly barbershops in the island.

style, some barbershops in Bali are children-friendly and the first thing in mind you might want to stroll to is Deus in Canggu to see what’s good at Dorsey’s Barbershop. While you chow down some good food at Deus, your kids got that stylish chopped up Dorsey’s Barbershop.Options are pretty wide, you may check The Roots ( Jalan Sunset Road near the Sunset Point) to stay sharp and dandy down to the shoe shine, Spoiled Hairdressers ( JalanUmalas 2) for a quality cut to perfection, or else you can also stop by at JazBBeauty Space (Seminyak Square) for more of personal care to your children.

mini furniture within the dollhouse, a choice of Tea Pot Set, Toaster Set and Doll Baby Chair is somewhat of soulful yet fun gift for the loved ones. Slide over a bit to JalanBerawa to visit Bermain, it is a colourful & friendly retail space in Canggu with regular kids art & craft classes held in-store, a free gift registry also available, and they have the plan to support local street art projects in the future. Tinker Toys Shop is also another one in Canggu Plaza for another choice where they have accessories, decoration and cute goodies for the kiddies. The need for toys is perhaps equal to the need of

If you live/stay around Seminyak, most likely you will have to go to Rosada Doll House in JalanKerobokan, if you’re into doll houses and Interiors made from natural goods for children; here you find some wooden toys such dolls, doll

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

By Dedi Kristian

Christina Iskandar

Didn’t stop at just ‘being in love with Bali’, Christina Iskandar gives it all back

and shares her passion to a number of children’s foundation’s (Bali Children’s Foundation and YPAC Handicapped Orphanage) just to name a few. A family lady her husband is from Jakarta Indonesia and they have been together for 25 years. Now let’s hear it straight from the lady herself for she took the time to share her love of Bali & giving back with Bali Eye Opener Magazine.

If a friend asks you to describe Bali in one single word, what would it be?Evolving

You live in Bali alongside with your family for years now, what activity in Bali you can say as a genuine family ‘good time’. Bedugul& the mountains, overnight stays, as it takes you back to nature and the old Bali, (what us long term expats are all yearning for)

You and children movements, what moves you? What moves me is seeing my children happy and content, that moves me the most

Tell us what are the most self-content moments when doing the social movements you do.Raising awareness would have to be the most important factor. I socialize mainly because this opens the doors to many people that may not necessarily be aware of how desperate some situations & charities in Bali may be & how much help they really need. So by people knowing me as this Social DIVA they know I do my research and make it easier for them learn about the causes through myself

You founded the Diva Luncheons, what is it and tell us the story. The Diva Luncheons started with 8 ladies lunching at BIKU, we have grown so much since that lunch some 4 years ago, our lunches have grown up to 100 ladies attend now . Basically we help people in need in Indonesia. We rely on the community to donate prizes, we then raffle, silent auction and for the more

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

extravagant prizes we do LIVE Auctions. We have the Head of the Charities attend on the day and funds are distributed immediately to the cause, there and then on the spot. Some of the charities we have helped have been www.friends-ypac-bali.orgwww.balichildrenfoundation.orgwww.proyectoharapan.org | www.solemen.org | www.suryani-institute.com | www.safechildhoods.orgwww.balipinkribbon.com | www.balikids.org just to name a few. Our March Diva lunch will be supporting www.rolefoundation.org

Been following your growing social media hype called ‘Best in Bali’, what’s the history behind it?Just things I love about Bali , lots of photo images, my knowledge for over 30 years. Best beaches, Best Restaurants, Best bars, Best Fashion and much more.

Living a dynamic life in Paradise with many activities and family to grow and share, how’s that treating you?*In one word “hectic”. People think when you live in Bali its Paradise every day, well it isn’t and you don’t have massages & go to the beach every day. You try and do the best you can do with what you have and make sure you give back to the community somehow and remember we are all guests here, respect the locals. Om shanti shantishanti Om

Where is ‘love’ positioned in your life, family work and life calling?Love is my family No 1, my hubby, kids and grandkids.

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your son’s face light

up with all of the fun and activities for his special day. From choosing a location to inviting guests to simply planning for the realities of keeping twenty children entertained for an afternoon, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Child’s Expectations The biggest source of party stress for parents is about meeting and exceeding their child’s expectations anxiety. Solution: “It all comes down to ‘will this make my child happy?’

Planning All the Details Many parents are stuck wondering what to do about a cake, decorations and entertainment. Solution: Choose a theme.

Getting Everything Done When you’re actually pulling everything together for the party, it can seem overwhelming. Solution: One of the biggest stress relievers is having extra pairs of hands, for everything from watching the kids to managing clean up

Preparing Your Home One of the biggest challenges is getting your home into top shape, only to have kids tear it apart again. Solution: Have the party somewhere else.It might be a bit more expensive, but at the end of the event you’re done.

PARENTING

A Giant Guest List Parents need to set boundaries on the number of guests.Solution: Invite a smaller number of children or families.Know your own limits, but don’t be afraid to focus on quality over quantity with respect to your guest list.

Outdoing Other Parents There are three other birthday parties coming up this month (all with Frozen themes!). And you want your child’s to be the best. It’s time to take a step back. Solution: Yes, you want your child to have a great birthday. Are you planning the event for the enjoyment of your child and guests -- or are worried about impressing other parents?

Keeping Track of Information From sending out invites to planning menus, there are lots of small details to remember. Solution: Rely on technology. Use an online invitation.

Focus on your child, worry less about what other people think, get help when you need it, and simplify where you can. You, your child and your guests will have a day to remember!

EDUCATION

There is an old saying that Life is a

school. If that’s true then it is true that our world grows smaller and the people in it more inextricably connected. There are younger people and older people, people farther or less far along in their education in a given subject. At every moment we are both students and teachers; we learn by studying, but we also learn by helping others, by sharing and explaining on what we know.

Simplicity is the Supreme Excellence, in all things. We are always focusing in how well know a school is, how big, how many teachers are expatriate and what are their facilities to make sure our children has the best education money can buy. To those who believe in a quality education requires a showplace campuses and a state-of art classroom, and is therefore a luxury item available to wealthy communities that speaks about equality in education for all.

Life is a school, where the hopes is to remind students the excitement of learning, to bring back the fun and even the suspense when the quest for understanding was seen as a kind of treasure hunt.

Do we ever asked if the research says that the attention span of the student is about ten to fifteen minutes, why did it remained that a given class period is an hour?

As also what is stated by Pablo Picasso “Art is the elimination of the unnecessary”

When it comes to education, technology is not to be feared, but embrace; to be used wisely and sensitively, computer based lesson actually allow teachers to do more teaching and the classroom to become a mutual workshop for mutual helping, rather than passive sitting.

Change is always difficult; change is frightening. The old day worked enough, didn’t it? Lacking some clear and present urgency to leave the comfort zone of lecture and traditional textbook. Why bother?

Learning without thought is labor loss; Thought without learning is Perilous – CONFUCIUS

How does education happen?Teachers can convey information. They can assist and they can inspire and these are important and beautiful things. At the end of the day, however, the fact is that WE EDUCATE OURSELVES. We learn first of all by deciding to learn, by committing to learn. This commitment allows, in turn, for concentration. All these process are active and deeply personal; all involve acceptance of responsibility. Education doesn’t happen out in ether and it doesn’t happen in the empty space between the teacher’s lips and student’s ear; IT HAPPENS IN THE INDIVIDUAL BRAIN OF EACH OF US.

Crab Bar has their door open for print and online media people to celebrate their crab culture with a sailor style. Coming into the Crab Bar, DJ is playing some of his tune, nautical dress code was well seen, and a welcoming Beer-Sangria is served around the corner. People were mingling around and get to know with the Crab Bar specialties and history from the Crab Bar crew until the moment came, the food tasting they call ‘Crab Bar-Barian’, where tables are set for crabs with sauces and flavors of choice, time to get messy with the crab-eating tools, crab mallet, claw cracker, and of course get the apron on to call it crab-ready. Beer pong was one of the hype of the event and everyone came home crab-happy.

It was a good sunset hour at Bali Eye opener’s soft launching and this man is a moving center of attention, people are astounded by his knack of magic tricks, adored by children who lovesurprises, and at the end we sat down with him to hear the stories of Ceremco, the magic man.

Ceremco took his previous episode of his life in a less magical line of work, as an IT Consultant, while doing his hobby doing magic at free time at parties, events. From here on, life took him to experience Bali life, until the point where he decided to settle his career here by getting the work permit, business plan and all that jazz.

It went well Ceremco did more and more gigs, events, parties, cerebrations. Entertaining the crowd with he claimed ‘all kinds of magic’ such close up, mentalism, mind-reading, hypnosis etc.

Ceremco is on now still on his future ride of passion to be very well known International Magician in Bali, Indonesia, and the world.

When I was 24 years old, I had the opportunity

to travel to Italy on a work assignment. Since I always wanted to travel there, I arranged for a 3 week vacation at the

end of the job. With a backpack strapped to

my back, my work partners dropped me in the middle of Florence

and drove away. Florence, Milan, Rome, all down the south and west coast to Naples and

more: I pretty much travelled all over the place. It was a great trip and I met many wonderful and

interesting people along the way. However, I can’t deny I wished there was someone with me to share the experience. Like when I traveled up to the top of mount Solaro on the island of Capri, staring out over the Mediterranean sea, or when I gazed up at St. Peter’s Basilica. I longed to stand together with someone else in amazement at David’s statue and hear them say, “that’s so beautiful.”The trip was unforgettable and I hope to see that again, but the fact is: it’s been the times that are shared with others, even when they are simpler and less exotic, that mean the most to me. Like the times I had with my family at Christmas, laughing and loving my now departed grandparents; or dancing with my friends at weddings receptions and talking about old times; or laughing with my children while playing on the beach; or taking Carol, my

By Don Butera

wife, out to a dinner theater and forget about the world for a while. These shared experiences seem to feel deeper, more satisfying, and even more lasting in my memory. Those are the memories that taste rich like a full glass of fine wine. As humans, we were made to be in relationships. For that reason, it is important for us to enter into healthy relationships. After all, life is all about connecting with each other.

Jack Johnson’s “Better together” says it this way:

“I believe in memoriesThey look so, so pretty when I sleepHey now, and when, I wake up,You look so pretty sleeping next to meBut there is not enough time,And there is no, no song I could singAnd there is no combination of words I could sayBut I will still tell you one thing,We’re better together”

Throughout your day, take the time to enjoy those around you. Look closely at their face and be thankful for their company. Life has never been about things such as the places or where we live, or what we do on a regular basis. Life is about sharing with those who we love.
