Water-Walkers Recognize God’s Presence

• The disciples were set-up for a defining moment. • Defining moments tend to happen in moments of

human extremes.• A moment in time where-in God reveals a life

changing message to you. In this text it is – “In the Midst Of Storms I Will Be There”

Water-Walkers Exercised Faith• This is a story about Faith.

• This is a story about Obedience.

• This means we will need to discern between foolish impulses and authentic calls of God!

Water-Walkers Get Out Of Their Boats• Picture in your mind seasoned professional

sailors struggling with the familiar.• Matthew 14:24 [LIV] and out on the lake the

disciples were in trouble. For the wind had risen and they were fighting heavy seas.

• Your Boat or where you are now in your life is the familiar – The question – stay with the familiar or go on a life changing adventure with God?

• Matthew 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Water-Walkers Expect Problems• 2 Tim. 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in

Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

• Don’t lose faith when you see the wind.

• It’s what the devil does.

• Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Water-Walkers Expect Problems

• Don’t forget in the times of storms what God has said when it was calm

• Isaiah 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Waters-Walkers Accept Risk As A Price Of Growth

Waters-Walkers Accept Risk As A Price Of Growth

• Gen 12:16 [NASB]  and said, "By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,

• 17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.

Water-Walkers Master Failures • Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind

boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

• As a result of the wind Peter began to sink – the question is did Peter fail?

• Failure is not an event, but rather a judgment about an event.

• Failure is not something that happens to us or a label we attach to things.

• Failure is a way we think about outcomes

Water-Walkers Master Failures

• Dr Jonas Salk tried 200 times before perfecting the polio vaccine.

• Somebody ask him how it felt to fail 200 times.

• He replied “I have never failed – I have discovered 200 ways not to vaccinate for polio.

• Peter did not fail - He did walk if only for a moment – however there were eleven other bigger failures in that boat.

• The worst failure is not to sink in the water – the worst failure is to never get out the boat.

Water-Walkers Grow Thru Failures• Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind

boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. [31] And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

• As soon as Peter ask for help, Jesus is there.• Peter was taught a lesson in faith and surly

grew thereby.• The Growth lesson is “Never Take Your Eyes

Off The Lord”

Water-Walkers Grow Thru Failures• Just because you have not attained your God

assigned goals/objectives yet – your misfires should be wisdom on what not to do on the next attempt.

• Don’t let the label of failure cripple your enthusiasm

• Failure is an indispensable, irreplaceable part of learning and growth.

• Here is the principle involved: Failure does not shape you; the way you respond to failure shapes you.

Water-Walkers Learn To Wait On God• Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the

night (some where beyond 3 a.m.) Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

• Matthew 14:32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

• The disciples had to wait until the fourth watch for Jesus to come and give them a defining moment

• The boat people had to wait until three something in the morning to get delivered.

• Peter had to wait on Jesus before he could attempt water walking.

• It is the only way to real growth

• It is the only way true faith develops

• It is the alternative to boredom and stagnation

• It is part of discovering and obeying your call
