Dear Bethany Bible Church,

With the fall season in full swing, I am so excited with all that

the Lord is doing in our midst! We will have, in less than a

month, the start of Adventure Club and a third church worship

service on the Book of Psalms on Wednesday nights; and a

spate of new or continuing adult Equipping Hour studies on

Sunday mornings. From studies on the cults, Exploring

Christianity, Fundamentals of the Faith, and ongoing Biblical

Counseling Training, there are opportunities for everyone to

mature in Christ. Men’s and women’s ongoing studies are in

full force too!

I am shortly to embark upon an exposition of 1 and 2

Thessalonians, and I can’t wait to preach the Word of God to

hungry souls who desire to feed on the truths of Scripture!

Additionally, Pastor Chris will begin his exposition of the Book

of Acts on Sunday evenings in the worship service and you’ll

want to be here faithfully for this as well as our church’s

corporate prayer time.

Would you take a moment to pray for these aforementioned

ministries, both new and ongoing? Ask the Lord to bless the

new ministries which have begun, and intercede for all of your

fellow church members who are involved in these and other

ongoing ministry opportunities, seeking the Lord’s blessing and

fruitfulness for our entire body. May God the Father grant

eternal riches in Christ Jesus for how the Holy Spirit is shaping

Bethany Bible Church.

Special Guest Preacher

Jacob Matchak

September 15

10:30 am Jacob Matchak will

lead us in morning

worship, share his

ministry, and preach.

Jacob Matchak has

worked in the California

Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation – Division

of Juvenile Justice (CDCR-DJJ) for the past 17 years.

As a pastor, Jacob is employed full-time as a State

Chaplain at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility in

Camarillo, CA which houses a population of 200 youthful

offenders in state custody. Jacob’s pastoral approach to

correctional chaplaincy has allowed him to build

meaningful relationships with both youth and

correctional staff and to establish a thriving chapel

program that partners with churches, para-church

organizations, Christian colleges and universities, and

seminaries from all over the Southern California region.

One of the highlights of Jacob’s chaplaincy is seeing the

outside church connect with the youth on the inside that

are seeking to know God and have a genuine walk of

faith with Him. Jacob has had the privilege of seeing the

lives of many youthful offenders be transformed by the

power of the Gospel as they receive new hope in Christ

Jesus for the future.

Jacob Matchak, his wife, Dena, and their two children

reside in Camarillo where they attend Pleasant Valley

Bible Church.

FROM THE MISSIONS TEAM:

Friendship Class is held every other Monday at The Bridge Church in Newbury Park. Volunteer mentors from several churches in the area assist and share with their assigned “friend” at each meeting. What a great mission opportunity to share the Gospel with the disabled community!

Faithful mentors are needed! Contact Joel or Jody Tiefel for more information.

Do you know a cognitively impaired adult 18-60+ who may or may not attend any church?

FROM THE MISSIONS TEAM: NEW MISSIONARIES

Welcome Michael and Amy Walsh….

Our Family

Thank you for this opportunity to introduce our family to

you. We are Michael & Amy Walsh and we have been

serving the Lord for the last 30 years in the Republic of

Ireland. Amy and I met at Moody Bible Institute in 1985

and the Lord united us in marriage and ministry in 1987.

The Lord has blessed us with four children, a daughter-in

-law, Rachael, and our grandson, Tyler Joseph, 18

months old.

Our Ministry

Amy and I have been in a church planting ministry in the

center of Ireland. I have been serving as pastor of Grace

Community Church in Roscommon. Fourteen years ago,

we moved to Roscommon where there was no Bible-

teaching church in the town. Last year we had the joy of

seeing a sister church planted called Hope Community

Church in the town of Longford, about 30 minutes from

our location. This year a church is being planted in the

town of Boyle which is an hour away in another direction. Our vision is to see God-centered, biblically-

saturated, doctrinally-grounded, churches established in the cities and towns of Ireland that do not yet have

a Gospel witness. Since less than 1% of the Irish people are Believers, we have an open door to see the

Gospel take root and bear fruit!

Our Partnership

We are so blessed to be able to partner with Bethany Bible Church. We hope to keep you informed about

the Lord’s work in Ireland. There may also be opportunities to share resources and personnel in the form

of mission trips and conferences. It’s exciting for us to think of how two like-minded churches can work

together to see the Gospel advance around the globe!

Please feel free to write to us with any questions you

might have about our family or the Lord’s work in

Ireland. E-mail: [email protected]

Michael & Amy Walsh (Heather, Brendan & Rachael, Hannah, Caleb)

Grace Community Church of Roscommon

The Missions Team warmly invites you to visit our monthly meeting! We meet once

monthly following the Sunday morning service. In September, we’ll meet at

Ameci’s Pizza in Thousand Oaks following the Sunday morning service on

September 15. The October meeting date will be announced soon. Watch for

updates in the Sunday bulletin and church calendar.

FROM THE MISSIONS TEAM:

How can you serve your local community and children

around the world with a gospel-centered mercy ministry?

Bethany Bible Church along with Bethany Christian School

will help bring life-saving food and aid to people facing

extreme poverty.

On September 15, pick up an empty Food Pak box and a

shopping list. Then, pack the box with non-perishable food

and include a $5 donation to cover the cost of transportation.

Please make checks payable to Children’s Hunger Fund

(CHF). Return the box to Bethany by September 29. CHF will

pick up the boxes from our campus and distribute them to

needy families through churches in their region. Each Food

Pak provides an opportunity to build relationships and deliver

the life-giving hope of the gospel.

It’s more than a box of food, it’s an opportunity for Hope to be delivered to families in crisis.

Let’s deliver Hope together!

Our current study is 50 Core

Truths of the Christian Faith.

Author Gregg Allison unpacks

fifty key doctrines of the

Christian faith in a clear,

engaging way and provides

guidance for how to accurately

With Titus 2:3-5 as our guide, our desire is to equip women to pass on the legacy of biblical womanhood to the next generation.

This is God’s good and beautiful plan, the biblical model of older women living out the gospel and training younger women to do the same, of younger women recognizing the value of older women in their lives—of women adorning the gospel together. Living our lives as Titus 2 women enables us to fulfill the purpose for which we were created. It helps our families and churches to flourish and the beauty of the gospel

to shine forth in our world. This is Christian community as God designed it.

Join us as we look to God’s Word for His perspective on the character, commitments, and attitudes of godly women—and His prescribed process for helping us live out these virtues not only today, but from generation to generation.

Using Nancy D. Wolgemuth’s book, Adorned, the Women's Titus 2 Discipleship Group will meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:45 pm. Upcoming meeting dates: September 24 and October 22.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Kids, come to the Worship Center with your parents where you will be dismissed to Sunday School classes following the first two songs. Sunday School teachers will escort children to classes.

ROOM 101: PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN Our preschool and kindergarten program encourages classroom participation while learning Biblical truths. Each activity is prepared with the Bible lesson in mind to help our preschoolers remember what they have learned. A healthy snack is provided.

ROOM 110: FIRST THROUGH FIFTH GRADES Our elementary curriculum is Generations of Grace. Children learn from the same passage of Scripture in a way that is appropriate for their age levels. Families are encouraged to discuss one passage together weekly to reinforce the Sunday School lesson the children learned. A healthy snack is provided.

Active listening guides are available at the Information Kiosk for children who remain in the Worship Center for service.

The Sunday service is simulcast in the Nursery Lobby but will soon be moved to room 205. Parents with young children are encouraged to use the viewing area near the nursery.

Sunday childcare for infants and toddlers

available at 9:00 am, 10:30 am and 6:00 pm.

Babies [Infants—Crawlers] Our nursery is equipped with cribs and swings as well as exciting toys to engage curious minds.

Toddlers [Walkers—3 Years] We welcome our toddlers with free play to ease the transition into the classroom. Our curriculum aims to train young children how to sit during a brief Bible story and participate in songs that teach biblical truths.

Cry Room / Training Area Located in our nursery lobby, we have live-streaming of the sermon and comfortable seating for any parent wishing to keep their little one with them during church.

FAMILY HOUR

The FAMILY HOUR ministry intentionally works together as families—helping one another grow and disciple our children in preparation for the next generation of Christ followers.

1) Fellowship among the families (parents and their children).

The weekly meeting encourages discipleship and accountability among families. We learn from one another; whether it is parent-to-parent or parent-to-other children and vice versa.

2) Teach the children about God, His word, and how to apply biblical truths in our daily lives.

Parents learn together with their children and reinforce at home what was taught on Sunday. Therefore, families can connect with each other about what they are learning from God during the week and on Sundays.  Sharing God's word within the family is a key emphasis of FAMILY HOUR. Sometimes the topic involves parenting which may be new and targeted toward the parents.

3) Men learn to lead and disciple their families.

FAMILY HOUR is designed to be a model of worship, teaching, prayer, and discussion for fathers/parents to practice daily with their families at home.

Each week, fathers or young men take turns preparing and teaching the weekly lesson.  The younger men are discipled by the older men so that the upcoming generation learns how to spiritually lead their family in the future. Parents also rotate leading Bible-related games and crafts.

Join us for fellowship, worship, Bible study, and family fun!

If you would like to write a note to Beth expressing your love for her, testifying of her devotion to the Savior that blesses all those around her, and for her ministry in your life and in the life of our church, we have a special email for this purpose: [email protected]

As she is able, Beth will read the emails and we trust God that her heart will be refreshed by the words of His people and the testimony of God's grace seen in her life and ministry.

Special Notes

Lance will continue providing updates about Beth's treatments and prayer requests via Facebook and the church website. Because many letters may be received, Beth may not be able to respond to each. Pray that every letter will be a fountain of joy to Beth and ultimately bring Jesus Christ worship and glory.

Beth is feeling stronger and is currently planning and preparing meals for her family. However, should the need arise for meals in the future, we’ll be sure to let you know! To help with medical expenses, please make your contributions at:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Jim Hines: (805) 320-1780 or [email protected].

Well-used suitcases wanted!

Do you have a suitcase that has seen “better days”? Does it still roll? Does the zipper still work? Is it fairly large? Joni and Friends Wheels for the World travelers can use your stained but usable suitcase to carry supplies to mission destinations. WARNING! Your suitcase will probably not return from its travels!

If you have one or more to donate to our mission travels, please contact Jody Tiefel: (805) 405-3785.
