CONSTRUCTION

Made out of selected material. Round disc type precisely machined flat top to guide

sectioning razor to avoid any possible injury to hands of the operator. The top of the stage

is lined with smooth hylem sheet and is provided with central well for fixing the wax block

with material. The Central well is provided with a clamping device opera table from

outside with help of a knob to adjust and hold the material block. The feed screw is

moveable by knurled bottom knob and is graduated from 0-50 mm in steps of 1 mm each.

1. Animal or plant material required to be cut must be fixed first to harden the tissue to

facilitate fine and easy sectioning.

2. Material should cut to 15-25mm length.

3. Material holding clamp be lowered to about 10mm by moving the feed screw anti

clock wise.

4. Before holding the material in the central well lit should be trimmed at ends to right

angle to the long axis.

5. Pour molten paraffin wax in the well while holding the material straight and allow

the wax to set.

6. Screw up the feed screw to bring wax embedded material a little above the cutting

surface and cut away the wax with sharp scalpel until the material top is exposed.

7. Raise the material a little above the level of cutting table.

8. Before cutting the section flood the sectioning table and the blade with 70%

alcohol.

9. Draw the blade evenly, obliquely and swiftly through the wax and material to get

perfect section. Jerks may damage the material.

10. Wash the section into a watch glass containing water and repeat the steps 8 & 9

until required quantity of sections have been produced.

11. After finishing the job clean the wax in the well. Final cleaning may be done by

using xylene, if needed.

Trial and error and practice will show how fine a section can be cut. To produce thin and

fine sections, the razor must have a very sharp and clean edge.
