Sports CentreStudents staying in University accommodation are able to use all of the Sports Centre activities for free, including Wexer on-demand classes. You can discover more about what Sport Aber membership includes at: www.aber.ac.uk/en/sportscentre/membership/students.

Student Support and Careers ServicesWhat do we offer?We appreciate that when you arrive at university there’s a lot to take in and we want to assist you with the transition so that you can make the most of all university life has to offer. If you feel overwhelmed or homesick or are concerned about another student, don’t worry - we are here to help.
Our services include support for international students, disabled students, students who need help with mental health and wellbeing issues and employability. We can also advise if you have any concerns about money and run various mentoring schemes to help you adjust to settling into university life.

Departmental Peer GuidesYou will have hopefully already been contacted by a Departmental Peer Guide. Your Peer Guide is a 2nd or 3rd year student who is part of a support scheme to help you to settle into university life. They have knowledge and experience about the university, your department and Aberystwyth town.
They will be contactable via email through your department and will also arrange virtual online group get-togethers for you to get to know other new students in your department.
Wellbeing WelcomeJoin the Student Wellbeing Service’s qualified Mental Health Professionals to learn about Wellbeing at University.

Important tasks you must complete • Register with a local GP within the
first week of arrival in Aberystwyth. Information about GP practices in the local area can be found here: www.aber.ac.uk/en/sscs/student-health and you can register with the three Aberystwyth Practices (Padarn, Church and Ystwyth), using their online registration system.
Add details of your emergency contact to your student record as soon as it is activated.
Check that your home and Aberystwyth address, landline and mobile contact details are up-to-date and amend them on your student record if necessary.
Let us know if you have a disability/chronic health condition/learning difference as we may be able to put specific adjustments in place.
Useful reminders
ChecklistEssential things for you to do when you arrive:
Activate your email account and Aber Card – these give you access to library and computer services and to some residences. These need to be activated before you can register as a student.
Collect your accommodation key at your pre-booked time slot (students living in university residences).
Collect your Aber Card.
Complete the registration process in line with the guidance you receive.
Make arrangements to pay your fees (tuition and, if appropriate, accommodation).
Enter your emergency/next of kin details onto your student record.
Register as a patient with a local GP surgery.
Download the ApAber.
Open an account with a local bank (unless you already have a UK account).
