The Model Preliminaries (1988 edition) as approved andrecommended by the Namibian Institute of Quantity Surveyorsand as published by the Association of South African QuantitySurveyors shall be taken to be incorporated herein

Contractors are referred to the above-mentioned documents for thefull intent and meaning of each clause thereof

These clauses are hereinafter referred to by clause number only.Where standard clauses or alternatives are not applicable to thecontract, such modifications / corrections as are necessary, aregiven under each relevant clause

The Model Preambles for Trades (2008 edition) as approvedand recommended by the Namibian Institute of QuantitySurveyors and as published by the Association of South AfricanQuantity Surveyors shall be deemed to be incorporated in thesebills of quantities

The position of construction breaks and the extent of individualconcrete pours are to be recorded by the contractor on thestructural engineer's drawings and are to be submitted to thearchitect and the structural engineer for their records

The contractor shall furnish the Architect with a set of markeddrawings indicating the positions of all plumbing and drainagepipework as actually built

237 Site instructions Item

Site instructions issued on site are to be recorded in triplicate in asite instruction book which is to be maintained on site by the maincontractor

238 Labour record Item

At the end of each week the contractor shall provide the PrincipalAgent with a written record, in schedule form, showing thenumber and descriptions of tradesmen and labourers employed byhim and all sub-contractors on the works each day

239 Plant record Item

At the end of each week the contractor shall provide the PrincipalAgent with a written record, in schedule form, showing thenumber, type and capacity of all plant, excluding hand tools,currently used on the works

240 Guarantee Item

Where guarantees are called for, the Contractor shall obtain awritten guarantee, addressed to the Employer, from the firmsupplying the materials and/or doing the work and shall deliversame to the Architect on the certified completion of the contract.The guarantee shall state that workmanship, materials andinstallation are guaranteed for a specified period from the date ofcertified completion of the contract, and that any defects that mayarise during the specified period shall be made good at theexpense of the firm supplying the materials and/or doing thework, upon written notice from the Architect to do so. Thisguarantee will not be enforced if the work is damaged bystructural defects in the building in which case the responsibilityfor replacement shall rest entirely with the Contractor. TheArchitect shall be the sole judge of the cause responsible fordefects in the work and his ruling shall be final and binding

241 Inspection of the works at practical completion Item

The contractor is to ensure that the Principal Agent is not calledto the site for the practical completion inspection before the worksare complete. The cost, both in time and travel for anyunnecessary trips will be for the sole account of the contractor

242 Disconnection of existing services Item

Any water-supply pipes, sewer pipes, other piping and electricalcables that may be met with and found necessary to disconnect orcut, shall be effectively stopped-off and any new connections orre-routing that may be necessary shall be made with properfittings, to the satisfaction of the principal agent

243 Local community involvement Item

It is the express desire of the client that the local community beinvolved. The contractor is encouraged to employ labour fromthe area in which the project is situated. This applied equally tothe skilled and unskilled labour force. The successful contractormust be willing, during the course of this project to impart skillsto the members of the local community

244 Employment of Namibian People Item

Cost of tests

Thetesting shall be undertaken by an independent firm or institutionnominated by the contractor and to the approval of the architect.(Test cubes are measured separately)

Formwork

GRANOLITHIC

Method

The method to be used shall be either the monolithic or bondedmethod

Preparation

For granolithic applied monolithically, the concrete floor shall beswept clean after bleeding of the concrete has ceased and the slab hasbegun to stiffen; any remaining bleed water shall be removed and thegranolithic shall then be applied immediately afterwards. Forgranolithic to be bonded to the floor slab after it has hardened, theslab surface shall be hacked (preferably by mechanical means) untilall laitance, dirt, oil, etc is dislodged and swept clean of all loosematter. The slab shall then be wetted and kept damp for at least sixhours before applying the finish

Mix

Granolithic shall attain a compressive strength of at least 41MPa. Thecoarse aggregate shall comply with SABS 1083 and be capable ofpassing a 10mm mesh sieve. Where the thickness of the granolithicexceeds 25mm, the size of the coarse aggregate shall be increased tothe maximum size compatible with the thickness of the granolithic

Laying

Monolithic granolithic shall be applied to the partially set slab andthoroughly compacted and lightly wood floated to the required levels

Bonded granolithic shall be applied to the slab after applying a 1:1sand and cement slurry brushed over the surface and allowed topartially set before applying the granolithic, thoroughly compactedand lightly wood floated to the required levels

After wood floating, the monolithic and bonded granolithic shallremain undisturbed until bleeding has ceased and the surface hasstiffened, any remaining bleed water and laitance shall then beremoved and the surface steel trowelled or power floated
