Congratulations to the Dingoes who have received the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Learning for their work in poetry during their English lessons with Mr Sturges.

Congratulations to the Koala’s who have received the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Learning for creating a fantastic artwork for the Art Show based on the book The Dot.They have learned about how artists use their creative minds to make artworks using a variety of media.

Last week at PSSA Sport the Junior netball girls have had a win. 7-2. According to their proud and excited coach Miss Corliss “Their improvement is outta sight!!!” Congratulations girls all that hard work and enthusiasm is obviously paying off!

It was great to catch up with many of our families and talk about their children’s progress and needs over the last few days in our Learning and Support meetings. Please remember if you have any concerns/questions about your child’s learning you are always welcome to make an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher!

The Art Show was phenominal success. Thank you to all the staff who helped organise 2 to 3 artworks from over 440 students, displayed it all so beautifully and then giving up two evenings to run the event. Your dedication and proffessionalism is epic. Thank you to our increadibly talented and enthusiastic students who put a lot of effort and care into their artworks I loved looking at all your work. It was fabulous to see all our families attending over the two evenings, really apprectiating all the care and talent that had gone into our artshow. It produced lots of proud moments for all of us! It was lovely to see our families enjoying the event together.

This week the Preschool Platypus group visited the Technology room for the first time! Usually Mrs Boyle goes to preschool for their lesson. Thank you to Zac, Yasemin, Emily, Polly and Sam from Year 6 for helping us out. Over the next few weeks, Preschool will be exploring basic iPad photography and green screen.

At Birchgrove Public School, we know that regular meaningful conversations can make a difference. And you don’t have to be an expert to ask how someone’s going. Just a great mate and a good listener.

This year in the build-up to R U OK?Day we’re shining a light on the times we should be asking our friends and loved ones this important question. We want everyone in our school community to know that if something’s up with someone you know – there’s something going on in their life or you notice a change in what they’re doing or saying – it’s time to trust that gut instinct and ask them “Are you OK?”

CONCERT BAND at the AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL BAND and ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL On Sunday the Concert Band performed on stage at the ASBOF music festival at UNSW. They competed against 6 other NSW school bands and played three pieces - In The Mood, Quiet Moments and Bohemian Rhapsody. They did so well and came away with a Bronze award. Well done to all band members!

PRIMARILY FUN Strings and Band members from year 5 and 6 participated alongside students from Sydney Secondary College for a day of rehearsal at the High School. On Saturday they all performed in Pioneer Park in Leichhardt and a wonderful day of music was had by all. It was very inspiring to play with such grown up musicians. MUSIC NIGHT What a wonderful evening of music we enjoyed last night! The choirs were spellbinding. Kodaly performances were so clever. The String ensembles were spine chilling. The beginner and consort recorders were fantastic performing side by side. And the bands were AH-MAZING! The conductors did an incredible job, as they do every week in practice. The teachers were a huge help supervising along with some greatly appreciated parents. A big thank you to all the lovely parent helpers managing behind the scenes too. Special mention to Phoebe, Sophie, Emel, Jane, Jacquie, Michelle, Katy and Caroline.

You were epic! Thanks to Annette Benn in Yr 5 for her awesome artwork that graced our program cover and last thanks to Rob and Tracy for their ongoing support. This annual event is the highlight of our ensemble performances and last night was truly uplifting. With artwork on the walls, Mr C on the mic, James Matthews on sound and Year 6 introducing each item, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a cold Tuesday night. Thanks for coming and contributing to our wonderful Birchgrove Music Program, Susan & Heidi Music Program Co-ordinators 2019 MUSICAL DATES FOR THE DIARY 24th & 25th October (Week 2, Term 4) - Music Camp: Intermediate Strings, Concert Strings, Rock Band, Training Band and Concert Band (year 3 and above).
