AARCA Sales Recruitment is preparing for a very specialday at the races to mark their landmark anniversary - butits clients around the country and abroad have alwaysknown that they’re backing a winner.

The Solihull based company is sponsoring the Aarca 10-YearAnniversary Handicap at Warwick Races, on July 1st, and theteam won’t only be cheering the winner home, they’ll betoasting the success of the business which has become aprominent brand representing quality, professionalism, honestyand reliability in the recruitment sector.

It is these aspects, plus much more, that have helped to ensureAarca has developed over the decade into a respectedrecruitment brand that is always first past the post.

It was founded by Managing Director John-Paul Shields who, having worked in the recruitment sector for many years,

became frustrated with the then market’s working practices, wanted to form a company with more forward-thinking views, provide a more flexible service and which would become a wellrenowned good name.

“I believe we have got there,” he adds. “We’ve become one ofthe key brands in sales recruitment in the UK, successfullydealing with very prestigious clients both here and acrossinternational market places.”

“We’ve achieved this by having an honest approach anddeveloping special knowledge within particular market sectors;going the extra mile that the standard recruitment agency doesn’t.”

Being based in the Midlands sees Aarca ideally placed to handleenquiries from across the UK and abroad, from a diverse rangeof sectors, including engineering, agriculture, construction,FMCG, travel, leisure and events, technical and scientific.

who knows all the best candidates in that market place at thatmoment,” explains John-Paul.

“We also use the latest technology to support our services. Allour consultants have access to the latest database systemsand online recruitment methodology. We really do cover allbases for our customers.”

“To get to 10 years is a big achievement - especially as timeshave been very testing and tough in the last two or three yearswith the recession,” he says.

“We’ve seen a lot of competitors go out of business and to stillbe here, still be successful, still be profitable and still have agood name at this time is, I think, a great achievement!”

“You may be looking at reviving your brand or at giving yourmarketing strategy an overhaul. Or it may just be certainelements that need addressing - your website, your logo or yourcorporate brochure, perhaps.

“Your business needs effective marketing and we would behappy to help in any way we can.”

EVEN Disney recognises real magic when it sees it.

Working with the Birmingham creative agency Fluid Designproved such a spellbinding experience for the globalentertainment giant, no stranger to creating a bit of magic itself, that it well and truly fell under its spell.

Says Neena Williams, the Senior Manager, European PR forDisney Interactive: “Disney has worked with a number of designagencies but since working with Fluid over the last year, wehave no intentions of changing; its work is second to none andits creative a real hit with our team, not just in Europe but alsoon a worldwide basis.”

It’s just one example of the plaudits which flow in from some ofthe world’s biggest names for this company which, specialisingin the entertainment sector, enjoys a global reputation as aleading design agency offering a fully comprehensive service.

The Arts Council, BBC, Chrysalis Music, ITV, Microsoft X-Box,MTV, Red Bull, Sony Music, Sony PlayStation, Warner Brothersand The Hyatt Group are just some of those featured on itsextensive client list, which ranges from global brands to localarts organisations.

Launched in 1995 by Creative Director James Glover andOperations Director Neil Roddis, Fluid first established its designand branding credentials within the music industry but, as itgrew, it continued the entertainment theme.

“Fluid is not only our name, but also our branding philosophy,”says James Glover.

“We have no house style and our studio represents a rich poolof outstanding talent from a wide range of artistic disciplines.”

“At every stage of the creative process we guarantee flexible, comprehensive design solutions that bear testament to thebreath of our experience and versatility of style.”

“The company ethos ‘Never Not Creating’ ensures every projectwe undertake benefits from an ingrained passion and culturalknowledge, earning Fluid a renowned reputation for consistentlyevolving creativity.”

From initial brainstorming through to development, solution andimplementation, Fluid employs a strategic approach to thedesign process, specialising in a comprehensive range ofservices, including: design, branding, art direction, advertising,3D modelling, animation, packaging, digital media, web designand font creation.

With plans to embrace and develop all possible digitalopportunities still further, such as motion graphics, mobiletechnology and all aspects of the web, Fluid is poised tostrengthen its global reputation still further.

And yet for a company with such a worldwide reach andreputation, it remains relatively small, based in Tenby Street andwith a full-time staff of just eight, backed up by an extensivenetwork of expert freelance contributors.

With awards adorning its shelves and students and graduatesclamouring to take up hotly contested places for internshipswith one of the industry’s world leaders, there’s no sign that thenumber of companies wishing to experience some of that Fluidcreative magic shows any sign of drying up.

Admiring the perfect hairstyles in the glossy magazines, you'd probably assume that to bag yourself a photo-worthy barnet from a celebrity hairstylist, you'd have topay big bucks down in the capital city.

But, as a loyal and ever-growing crowd of clients in and aroundWolverhampton will tell you, we have two hairstylists to thestars in our midst (and you won't even have to re-mortgage thehouse for a cut and blow).

Hairdressing duo Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko currentlyown two hugely successful salons, but operate primarily fromthe flagship in Compton, near Tettenhall. Here, they cater foreveryone; working mums, style-conscious teenagers and ladieswho lunch, right up to the mega-famous household namesgracing the pages of those aforementioned glossy mags.

Looking at their credentials, it's no surprise that Royston andNick are in such constant demand from the likes of Katie Price,Tamara Ecclestone, Alex Gerrard and Rachel Hunter to namebut a few. After four decades honing their skills at catwalkshows, photoshoots and various media platforms, their CV nowincludes teaching and presenting around the world, celebrityweddings, styling for OK, Vogue, and Marie Claire, judging atnational competitions, working at designer shows for the likesof Christian Lacroix and performing hair makeovers on GMTVand Sky One.

And, naturally, their trendy and dynamic team of staff stand tobenefit from such driven and inspirational figureheads. Bookinga standard cut and blowdry in the Compton salon means you'll

likely be coiffed by a talented young stylist who has producedthe cover look of Hair magazine, styled at Harvey Nicholsshows, produced collections in Paris, graduated from AdvancedColourist degree courses or won British Hairdressing Awards.Down in the London salon, which is located within the opulentsurroundings of the world-famous Dorchester Hotel on ParkLane, you can even go one better and share a hairdresser withthe royal family; Creative Director Ian Carmichael has beenpersonal hairdresser to Her Majesty the Queen for thirteenyears. In this salon, the emphasis is on luxury and personalservice, and a beautiful blowdry here is undoubtedly one of thefinest ways to spend time in the city.

IT’S only rock and roll but they like it at Guitar & Son -and blues, and classical or any other kind of music.

This Stafford store is a place where music really does make thepeople come together: up and coming musicians eager tolearn, those looking to buy a new instrument, others needing toreplace a part on theirs and some wanting to get their soundsout to a wider audience.

All this and more can be found from the Eastgate Street shop, launched by Eric Furze back in 1995.

Today the store is a vital stop-off for anyone who is someoneStaffordshire’s busy music scene - but it also attracts artistsfrom around the country, many of whom come to Guitar & Sonwhile on tour.

These have included Climax Blues Band bassist, Derek Holt;Nektar guitar virtuoso, Roye Albrighton, and up-and-comingWolverhampton indie band The Lines.

“We’re a general musical instrument store, but we also offer afull repair service for guitars and amplifiers,” says Eric, whosecareer has been spent in the entertainment industry and fromwhich the shop was a natural progression.

“I’ve always been a promoter, organising gigs and bands wouldalways need strings for their guitars so I started taking stringsalong and selling them,” he explains.

Today, the bands and solo artists still come to Eric at Guitar &Son, from where he continues to organise gigs and promotethem locally, nationally and now globally since he and hisyoungest son Jake started presenting an online radio show atwww.stafford.fm

But Guitar & Son is not all about what’s happening now - it’skeen to help musicians of the future and offers in-store guitarand bass tuition while Eric can also put people in touch withteachers of a whole host of different musical instruments.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of music it is as long as it’s music -I don’t mind,” he says.

Another benefit of coming into the shop - where customers cannot only park in front of the building but try out the productsand services and drop off CDs for the radio show - is thatthere’s no shortage of free help and advice available from Ericand his staff.

“We can show youngsters amps, how to tune drums and thatnoise isn’t everything; it’s a lot more than just plugging in,” saysthe man who describes himself as a “happy” bass player.

“There’s a thriving scene of upcoming bands here and I canpass them on to live music venues such as the Sugar Mill atStoke or the Flapper and Firkin in Birmingham.”

Being such an established and respected part of Staffordshire’smusic world, it’s no surprise that Guitar & Son is known bymusicians across the country - but modest Eric puts that downto his store’s “daft name”. But actually, the title is a further sourceof pride. “The shop’s named after an album recorded in Staffordby Pete Haycock of the Climax Blues Band,” explains Eric. “Hewas a favourite guitarist of mine who lived locally. He’s a sessionmusician now and lives in Germany but he did come in here andwas proud and pleased I was keeping the name alive.”

Guitar & Son is open from 10am until 6pm all week, except Wednesdays when it is open from 10am to 4pm.

A REVOLUTIONARY new cooking system is not onlyquenching the flaring flames of the barbecue, it’s tamedthose of a Dragon as well.

Theo Paphitas has maintained akeen interest in the GrillStreamsystem ever since it impressed himand the rest of the formidable panelin a 2009 episode of the BBC’sDragon’s Den.

Since that first appearance, and afollow-up episode in 2010,GrillStream Technology has beenlicensed to a number ofmanufacturers across the globeand has been a smash hit in thebarbecuing world.

The system has been developed by barbecue fanatics IanWorton and Peter Neath, who set out on a quest to cook theperfect sausage without setting a barbecue alight, causingexcessive flare-up or ending a season with a greasy, messypiece of equipment.

Using their extensive engineering skills, they have been able tosolve the barbecuer’s age-old problem of fat fires.

They have invented an open bar grill system which streams thefat away from the cooking site and into a collection vessel foreasy disposal.

“This means healthier food as it stops the burning andexcessive smoke, which contains harmful substances, andgives uneven cooking,” explains Peter.

“When barbecuing, how many times have we all burnt theoutside of the food, yet, at the same time run the real risk ofserving it up raw in the middle?

“By preventing the fat/oil from dripping onto the heat source, yet still allowing for direct convected and radiant heatGrillstream is the perfect open bar grill system, streaming away

the fat for virtually flare-free, clean and healthy grilling.”

And, ultimately, that sausage ends up being cooked to perfection.

Since its two Dragon’s Den appearances, in between which JeffMoore joined the business, GrillStream has successfully licensedits technology to a number of manufacturers from all over theworld, particularly in France and the USA, and now offers arange of GrillStream grills for domestic cookers and barbecues.

Just launched is the 360, a kettle replacement grill which canbe retro fitted and which GrillStream Ltd will be suppling directto the public in this country and abroad.

The company also plans to focus on the domestic andcommercial cooker market where, says Peter, the technology canbe equally well applied to give new options to indoor cooking.

And as its range of products increases, the company, currentlybased in offices on the Papermill End Industrial Estate in GreatBarr, Birmingham, has high expectations of taking oncommercial production units in the region.

Barbecue cooking doesn’t get much more ‘grilling’ than this.

N-ice to see you, to see you n-ice! Birmingham is celebratingnow that, since the beginning of the year, it has its own full-size ice rink once more.

Midlands families are falling over themselves to visit the city’scoolest attraction, part of a huge revamped complex in PershoreStreet. Entertainments firm Midland Leisure Centre ltd has breathednew life into the former Silver Blades and Planet Ice rink which wasgutted by fire in 2003.

The company has transformed the building into The Leisurebox - avenue for the 21st century now also boasting a 24-lane bowlingalley, restaurant, licensed bar, pool tables and amusements. Nowable to offer birthday party celebrations, visitors can choose to bowlor skate for on their special day - or combine the two with twobowling games and unlimited skating time. But you don’t need tohave a party to double the fun - one of The Leisurebox’s mostpopular packages is the £10 bowl and unlimited skating.

With its UV lighting effects and the latest in technology andamusements, which include a rollercoaster simulator, the bowlingalley is a huge draw for families and friends seeking a great way tohave fun. But there’s no doubt that everybody’s really excited to seeBirmingham back on the ice skating map - and Leisurebox hasn’tforgotten the city’s prestigious contribution to the sport.

The rink has been named the Olympian Ice Rink in honour of theBirmingham born 1988 Olympic speed skating gold medalist WilfO’Reilly, who trained at Silver Blades, and the late John Curry, thethe world champion and Olympic gold ice dancer who also trained

in the city. All ages and abilities are catered for - Ice Toddlersessions are aimed at parents with youngsters aged between 18months and five - while Ice dancers and speed skaters are allexpected to flock to the new rink.

Those wishing to up the pace can take advantage of Learn to PlayIce Hockey, an English Ice Hockey Association course covering thesport’s basics, including elementary skating, puck control, balanceand passing.

And if you have never donned blades and stepped out on a rink andyearn to glide effortlessly across the ice, then the John Curry IceSkating Academy is running the Skate UK-approved Learn to Skatecourse, developed by the National Ice Skating Academy. “As asport, ice skating could help you burn about 400 calories an hour:what a great and fun way to keep fit,” says The Leisurebox’sGeneral Manager Chris Carpenter.

“Apart from the adults-only sessions on Tuesdays, our Learn ToSkate lessons are mixed so that the whole family can learn together.More than 50,000 people a year complete a formal Skate UK Learnto Skate Course and the success of television’s Dancing On Ice hashelped to make this extremely popular.

“Our John Curry Ice Skating Academy is about to be opened todevelop City skaters to competition level so there's no better time tojoin than now and be part of it from the start. It's incredibly excitingfor the people of Birmingham to have their own ice rink once again.”

All the facilities at the Leisurebox are available for corporate events, private hire and special occasions.

WHEN it comes to providing high quality cosmeticand general dentistry, it’s the whole tooth andnothing but the tooth for A & H Dental Care.

Husband and wife team Adam and HelenPrecelton are passionate about not onlyoffering the very best and the latesttreatments available, but also givingexemplary customer service and a uniquefriendly experience that cannot be matched.

“Everyone finds bad service or indifference annoying andinsulting and when we established the practice in 2000, wevowed that we would never let anyone walk away disappointedat our efforts,” declares Adam.

The results speak for themselves. Adam was was nominatedthrough testimonials from patients, laboratories and staff to be afinalist in The Probe (Dental Journal) Dentist of the Year but, even more importantly, when the couple, reluctantly, decided toprovide the practice services independently from the NHS, lastSeptember, they were told to expect to keep no more than 40%of the adult patients and no children. Yet they retained half ofthe registered children, and 65% of patients overall.

The practice introduced a membership scheme which hasproved incredibly popular, allowing patients to spread the costof their routine care and receive a discount on treatments, atthe same time creating a bond with the practice.

“Keeping registration alive is key to working on long-term care, with preventative approaches being a large part of ourtreatment ethos,” says Adam. “To do this effectively you need tosee patients regularly and long term.”

Based at 38 West Street, Warwick, the practice covers routinedental care such as health checks, scale and polishappointments and x-rays, through to advanced restorativetreatments including white fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers, root canal treatments, dentures and implants.

Professional whitening is also offered along with sleepassessment appointments to consider options such as anti-snore appliances or whether to seek advice on sleep apnoea.Adult and child custom-made sports guards are also available.

From the start, Adam wanted modern well-equipped surgerieswith every technology available used to improve the patientexperience - in 2000 when dentists were still writing papernotes his new practice was fully computerised.

Today it also has a decontamination room - part of Adam andHelen’s determination to maintain the highest standards in everyaspect.

“New HTM01-05 cross infection control guidance from theDepartment of Health (DoH) allows two tiers of compliance,”explains Adam.

“Our decontamination room with automated instrument cleaningensures the maximum safety of patients; we could not settle forjust meeting the 'Essential Requirements' laid out by the DoHbut went straight to 'Best Practice' level.”

A founder and now Gold member of the British DentalAssociation’s Good Practice Scheme, A & H Dental Care hassix members of staff and provides in-house training, collaborating with external bodies to achieve formal certificatedrecognition for receptionists.

All the clinical staff are registered with the General DentalCouncil and carry out its required Continued ProfessionalDevelopment while regular training and update sessions ensureall are familiar with the latest policies, procedures and practices.

“A & H Dental Care has been lovingly created over 11 years inour own vision of great dental care with a high level of customersatisfaction,” says Adam.

“We aim to build a personal relationship with each patient as an individual, listen to their wants and needs and exceed their expectations.”

BIRMINGHAM based corporate insurance broker Cronin& Co is celebrating after gaining prestigious CharteredInsurance Broker status.

Awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the accolade, which is only awarded to firms who meet rigorous criteria relatingto professionalism, financial stability and insurance capability, places the company among fewer than 100 of the UK’s 4,000insurance brokers who have this prestigious title.

It’s a highly-sought after insurance accolade and almost exclusivein today’s insurance market, but Cronin & Co, based in BarntGreen, is no stranger to exclusivity. It prides itself on the rangeand nature of specialist insurance schemes it offers its diverserange of clientele - many of these schemes are unavailablethrough the more run-of-the-mill insurance broker.

For example, having worked closely with and being the appointedinsurance broker to CEDA, the Catering Equipment DistributionAssociation, Cronin & Co has developed a suite of productstailored to match the exact requirements of CEDA members andassociate members.

“We have a bespoke policy called Á la Cârte which is unique toCronin’s,” declares managing director and company founderDarren Cronin. “If you’re in the catering industry and you want aquotation for this policy, you can only obtain it through us, yourregular broker can’t access it.”

Established in 2005 to service the business requirements across arange of business sectors, Cronin & Co’s clientele includes ownermanaged businesses through to large corporates, along with highnet-worth private clients throughout the UK.

While the world of insurance can be complicated, Darren and hisprofessional team ensure their business ethos remains simple.

“We analyse clients’ requirements and provide products tailored tothem at commercially competitive rates,” he says.

“After a sale we continue to serve the clients with a great deal ofcare, enthusiasm and skill, ensuring that they receive more thanjust an insurance policy - we aim to be their external insurancedepartment and professional advisers alongside their accountantsand lawyers”

So it was more a natural progression for Cronin & Co to achieveChartered status, which commits all those who gain it to the CII’sCode of Ethics, reinforcing the highest standards of professionalpractice in their business dealings.

“As a business we already adhered to high standards so wethought we would apply for Chartered status, which would help toreposition the business within the minority of commercial brokersin the UK who hold the title” says Darren. “We were audited by theChartered Insurance Institute and approval was granted”

The acquisition of the title, in May, followed hot on the heels of amove to the current bigger and better premises and now sees thecompany looking to develop its range of affinity schemes byconsulting with trade associations, designing bespoke policy wordingsin line with Cronin’s ethos of bespoking policies and providing costeffective insurance solutions for the associations’ members.

“We’re in a service industry and insurance is a necessary purchase, but we can help people by offering policies they can’t accesselsewhere which are dovetailed to their business,” says Darren.

“The future’s exciting and we’re very confident going forward.”

Shops, too, benefit from the high levels of Firm (Security)Services’ loss prevention services. Again, a site visit enables thecompany to ascertain its particular requirements and evaluateany risk areas.

Following consultations with the customer, assignmentinstructions will be drawn up and used to give on-site training tothe retail security guard or store detective who will also remainin hourly contact with the control room.

THERE’S some masterly building work going on theMidlands right now - that’s because it’s being carried outby JWF Building Solutions Ltd, which was recently namedthe Midland Region, Builder of the Year.

The Staffordshire based company received the accolade fromthe Federation of Master Builders, of which it is a member, inthe medium renovation projects category covering

Its second-storey extension to a traditional farmhouse to createa games room with master bedroom suite above, may havebeen a prize-winner, but every project JWF undertakes is aprize winner for its clients..

“We are a friendly, family run-business always putting the clientfirst,” insists director Neil French.

“Along with our award-winning credentials, we are trying tostand out from the crowd as a good quality builder offering agood job at a good price.”

The company’s patented steel components allow for theassembly of beds which can be a variety of practical and usefulshapes, and sizes, all at variable heights.

The product is a cost effective and time saving way of buildingbeds. No builders are required, assembly on level ground is quickand simple without the use of tools or fixings. The small numberof components makes assembly simple using the numberedparts in conjunction with the supplied installation guide.

RENOWNED for its wide range of products and services,Master Magnets Ltd is the UK’s number onemanufacturer of industrial magnetic separationequipment whose continued expansion of its globalpresence has provided another fantastic year of trading.

Its worldwide success saw it highly commended in the Exporterof the Year category of this year’s Midlands Business Awards.

Managing Director Adrian Coleman writes: “If ever there were away to celebrate over 30 years of successful trading, then it iswith a regional award that recognises your business for itsoverseas exporting achievements.”

“Our core business is the design and manufacture of industrialmagnetic separation and metal detection equipment, which wesell to over 21 countries. Exports accounted for 55% of ourturnover last year and with agents in 17 countries, including theUSA, Germany, India and Italy, it is something high on our list of priorities.”

At its purpose-built 17,000 sq ft factory unit in Redditch, MasterMagnets, known as Mastermag, produces equipment thatenables companies to recover valuable recyclable metals suchas steel, aluminium and copper.

The range of equipment is also often installed to protectexpensive processing machinery from damaging metals and canbe used to ensure that valuable end products such as foodstuffs are also free from metallic contaminants.

Its industrial magnetic solutions are used by a wide range ofsectors, including recycling, quarrying and mining, ceramic andpowder handling and food processing.

“Our services are known to be some of the best in the world,”says Mr. Coleman. “From our pre-sales services, which caninclude site evaluations and product sample testing, through tothe commissioning services that can be carried out on ourexisting customers’ machines, Master Magnets will endeavourto provide helpful services throughout the entire sales processto ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.

With the award starting 2011 on such a high note, Mastermagis looking forward to what is sure to be another successful year.

Chairman Geoff Worley writes: “The manufacturing industryfaced many challenges last year, due to the slow recovery of the global economy and for many of our customers, gettinghold of finance was still very difficult, which slowed down manyprojects that were due to go ahead.”

“Fortunately, despite these issues, Mastermag had a verysuccessful year as the demand for magnetic separationequipment remained comparatively high, most likely due to thecontinually-increasing material prices for aluminium and steel.”

“Forecasts for aluminium prices in particular over the next fewyears are very positive and the International Aluminium Instituteexpects the volume of recovered scrap to leap fromapproximately 9.5 million tonnes in 2010, to almost 17 milliontonnes in 2020. This could prove instrumental for an increase inMastermag Eddy Current Separator sales, given theirsignificance in non-ferrous recovery.”

“Our future looks very bright and as we continue to trade andgrow world-wide, we look forward to seeing the companydevelop even further in the coming years.”

BA Components may be a small company, but it’s a highlyspecialised business that’s big on flexibility and theneeds of its globally renowned clients.

Just six people work at its headquarters on the Park FarmIndustrial Estate, in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, but it isan environment that hums with scientific knowledge andengineering precision skills.

Here is where BA Components manufactures high qualitystainless steel components including double ferrule tube fittings, high pressure fittings, hydraulic hose fittings and adaptors.

The fittings are used in industries such as petrochemicals, chemicals, desalinisation, chromatography and hydraulics -anywhere high precision fittings are required to work at high pressure.

For BA Components, this means predominantly supplying to theoil and gas producing centres including Aberdeen, Norway andthe Middle East - although managing director Andrew Westlandacknowledges that products manufactured on site may end upalmost anywhere in the world.

“We often manufacture and supply components to clients whomay be assembling equipment on behalf of another company,”he explains.

“It might be an oil company, water company, paper mill, wedon’t always see where product is finally installed.”

Established 11 years ago by Andrew, and fellow managingdirector Barry O’Brien, after working together for others in theindustry, this experience gives BA Components big advantagesover larger competitors.

“We can be more specialised and flexible,” says Andrew. “Aswell as standard products we can handle bespokerequirements. It could be something in a different material, ormaking ‘specials’ to keep the number of joints to a minimum, thus reducing the number of potential leak paths.

“An engineer will look to have several items assembled to carrythe media from one place to another. We can often produce a

component that is simpler and reduce thenumber of joints required.

“Every join is a potential leak path for any mediagoing through the system so it’s important to keep

the number of potential leak paths to a minimum.Larger companies are often unable, or unwilling, to do this.”

The ability and expertise of the BA Components team to workwith specialist alloys make it a popular choice for many of theindustry’s leading companies, such as Honeywell and Total.

“Many others won’t entertain working with these alloys becausethey’re very expensive materials and difficult to machine,” says Andrew.

“We are known for our capabilities in machining special alloys, turning them into the components that customers need, butmay unable to source from anywhere else.”

Whether it’s a standard order, a bespoke request or problemsolving - Andrew says they are often asked to put theirexpertise to good use in this way - the level of service andcustomer satisfaction is critical to everyone at BA Components, which has BS EN ISO 9001 accreditation.

“We like to develop close relationships’ with clients. It’s a veryimportant aspect of how we work. We like to visit the clientwhere possible to discuss their requirements in detail,” statesAndrew. “They have confidence in us to give them what they’reasking for.”

Scientific instruments for characterising materials - from aspirin to asphalt, coffee to concrete, plastics topowder coatings.

Since its foundation in the early 1970s Malvern Instruments hasbeen an integral part of the Worcestershire town from which it takesits name. Today this award-winning scientific instruments companycontributes significantly to the local economy, employing aworkforce of around 200 - and currently recruiting - at its globalheadquarters on the Enigma Business Park, and a total of 600worldwide. A net exporter, with more than 90 percent of productiondestined for overseas markets, Malvern is a truly global company, afact recognised once again with this year’s Queen’s Award forInternational Trade.

This year’s Queen’s Award makes it ‘two in a row’ following thecompany’s success in the Innovation category in 2010 for thecontinued development of the Zetasizer Nano particlecharacterisation system.

“I don’t normally boast about our successes, but this really is anachievement that should make everyone at Malvern Instrumentsproud,” said Managing Director Paul Walker. “Two Queen’s Awardsin successive years, at a time of considerable global economicuncertainty, should see every member of our teams givingthemselves a pat on the back.”

Malvern Instruments designs and manufactures scientificinstruments that are used to measure the physical and chemicalproperties of materials. Scientists, technologists and engineers usethem to gain a detailed understanding of their materials andprocesses, to guide product development, manage and controlmanufacturing quality, and optimise output.

Paul Walker attributes much of Malvern’s continuing internationaltrading success to: the company’s focus on building andbroadening the range of products it offers; delivering the same highquality service and applications support to every customer in everyarea; and being innovative in promoting the Malvern brand and itsvalues around the world.

“We now have direct operations in all key markets andstrong partnerships with exclusive distributorselsewhere,” he said. “Our close workingrelationships in all areas ensure that the customerexperience is consistent the world over. Added to

this, our investment in web-based delivery ofinformation and support provides universal access to the

wealth of experience and expertise that resides within Malvern’sglobal organisation.”

Used in industries as diverse as minerals processing andpharmaceutical drug discovery, Malvern systems support theunderstanding, improvement and optimisation of many industrial processes.

They measure properties that have an impact in many areas. For example:

• Particle size influences powder coating performance, drugabsorption speed, cement strength, and the ‘mouth feel’ of chocolate

• Particle shape affects manufacturing of toners, pharmaceuticals, and abrasives, and knowing a particle’s chemical compositionadds further insight

• Producing and using nanoparticles requires detailed informationabout their properties and behaviour

• Natural and synthetic molecules, whether for drug delivery orplastics production, require detailed characterisation

An established UK and European haulage company specialisingin bulk tipping with an enviable reputation for delivering anexceptional level of service, it is a major player in the industryand has come a long way from its farming origins.

And those pink trucks are fast achieving the status hithertoenjoyed by the Eddie Stobbart fleet: the company’s busyFacebook page already has more than 200 followers, all eagerto follow the drivers on their travels and post sightings of thedistinctive vehicles.

“We are getting a name for ourselves because of the colour,”agrees proprietor and founder Edward Robinson. “We are proudof our pink trucks.”

Robinsons of Worcester began as a livestock and dairy farmingbusiness more than 70 years ago. In 2001, when it lost 4,000sheep to foot-and-mouth disease Edward passed his LGV test.

Once back in the livestock trade, the company purchased asingle lorry to meet its own needs, but the increasing demandfor transport and a growing customer base resulted in thepurchase of further vehicles and its haulage business has beenexpanding ever since.

This year alone it has taken delivery of four new trucks and afurther three are due to be added to the fleet of 21, 11 of whichare Robinsons’ own and the rest sub contracted.

From its base at Besford, near Pershore, the company is proudof its highly efficient road haulage operation and ability to offerextensive transport solutions.

Its commitment to remaining at the forefront of haulagetechnology and being fully conversant with the latest legalrequirements is reflected in the tip-top condition of the lorrieswhich are all equipped with vehicle tracking systems thatbenefit customers and aid driver safety.

The provision of Driver CPC Training, also contributes to thehigh driving standards and road safety.

The strict compliance with safety regulations combined withdedication to the delivering the best service possible hasresulted in not only continued success but prestigious contractstoo, with Robinson’s of Worcester making deliveries of animalfeed and collections from the royal estates of Windsor andSandringham.

And just why are those trucks pink? Step forward IsabelleRobinson, Edward’s daughter and fan of pink.

When he ordered a new Mercedes tractor unit in 2009 Edwardhad it painted just for her. It proved such a talking point thatother vehicles in the fleet were soon sporting the same colour.

The pride and joy of every Robinsons driver, some of the trucks are on show at two majorforthcoming events this year, giving fans theopportunity to see them up close.

To say that Sealine’s Senior Naval Architect, Richard Crocker, and his team of experts have been busy recently is something of an

understatement. Three exciting new Sealine designs are in the pipeline, due to make a splash over the next three years. And, if Sealine’s award-winning F42 launched in January is anything to go by, the team has set its standards high. Very high.

A peek at the drawing board reveals the lines for the new SC42. For some three years now, the original designs from Carsten Astheimer for this boat have been looked at in great detail, it shares the same proven hull lines as its popular older sister, the striking and successful SC35 – the boat which defined a new era in forward-thinking design for Sealine. It is only now that Sealine has felt ready to unveil the SC42

design to the market, cautious because this is another uniquely defining design that promises to turn heads. This is a boat that was designed to fit a purpose, and that decisiveness defines the design. Function, as always, was the starting point for Richard and his team who take inspiration from the designs given to them. Form follows, and the result is a boat that has all the hallmarks of Sealine’s industrial practicality and sleekly modern identity.

Fellow naval architect Gemma Knill is confident about this new developement, “not only will this boat deliver more social space than any other cruiser in its class, it will achieve this in a way that seamlessly blends the outdoors with the interior living space,” she explains. An extendable hi-lo bathing platform drops temptingly down into the water, while the secure side deck access with its integrated cockpit closure system gives the assurance of safety for little ones onboard. The deck seating slides cleverly together so that a group of ten can share an al fresco meal; then, as the sun sets, the capacious interior stylishly accommodates seven. “The great thing about the saloon space is that it can be transformed into an additional double berth,” Gemma adds, “which complements the luxurious master cabin and five flexible berth arrangements in the mid-cabin.”

With dual Volvo Penta engines, this boat begs to stretch her legs on the sun-splashed waters of the Mediterranean, where she will truly offer a home from home. Composite engineer Aymerik Cussonneau explains more, “customers can choose from standard engine options or a engine option upgrade which gives a fantastic 740 brake horsepower total and reassurance wherever they go that their boat is created to the higest standards.”

Touches of design intelligence betray the SC42’s considered creation and underline the team’s starting point: the ultimate satisfaction of the end user. To achieve this, every detail counts; some 2100 individual concept drawings go into any one Sealine design, and each component must be carefully developed

and analysed, tested, tweaked and tested again, through tank-testing, prototype development and final production.

Setting this ultimate standard, Richard and his team take pride in delivering innovation in its most perfect form. With over 15 years’ experience as a naval architect, Richard’s guidance

helps inspire the framework within which the team works, first identifying function and then creating form. With the latest software now at its disposal and a wealth of specialist skills between them, the team is confident that the designs will continue to push the boundaries of innovation into the future.

When Richard first joined Sealine in 2006 he set out to revolutionise the hull technology, specifically the ground-breaking SC47. Now, drawing on the added expertise of his growing team, Richard is working hard to evolve the rest of the new range. Watch this space.

A grille makes a difference; a Zunsport grille makes astatement - no wonder discerning car owners make it theirfirst choice when it comes to enhancing their vehicles.

The Walsall Wood company sells grilles for a wide range of carswhich it manufactures from premium quality stainless steel wiremesh, regardless of whether they have a chrome or black finish.

All are guaranteed for the lifetime of the vehicle and, if an ownercan’t find a grille for his particular car, then Zunsport Ltd is happy todiscuss the options for making a one-off.

No wonder it’s known as the specialist stainless steel wire meshcar grille company.

“Zunsport prides itself on being a customer-focused company andgoes out of its way to provide complete customer satisfaction,”says Managing Director Peter Langston.

“To give our customers choice and great service we sell throughour own website - with a 98% success rate of delivery the day afterorder - and through a nationwide network of approved dealers.”

With orders coming in from all over the world, the companyaccepts it may take a little longer than 24 hours for a grille to arriveat some destinations but once the price has been totaled at theonline check-out, it will remain fixed, no matter which door in theworld the order is being sent too.

And those ordering online do so worry-free, secure in theknowledge that Zunsport uses SSL, the most advanced orderingsecurity system available which encrypts all personal information, including credit card numbers.

There are many reasons motorists are choosing Zunsport grilles, not least because they are hand-crafted by the companyspecialists from 316L stainless steel which is either electro-polished to provide a long-lasting bright finish, or coated with ablack polymer. Both finishes are robust, having been extensivelytested for strength and durability.

However their key features are that they’re easy to fit - for many notools or changes to the car are required - and they give addedprotection to radiators, brakes, oil coolers, etc. from ingress ofclogging leaves and damaging road detritus.

And, of course, they just give a car a great look, bringing anenormous amount of pleasure to the owner.

“The raison d’etre for buying a Zunsport grille is pride in theperformance and styling of your car,” says Peter. “We wish toenhance that experience.”

It goes without saying that quality rates in equal importance withcustomer satisfaction. Says Peter: “We are serious about the qualityof everything that we do.

“Our quality and management systems are independentlyapproved, and our performance regularly audited, by LloydsRegister of Quality Assurance - so you can have confidence inbuying a Zunsport car grille.”

When you see that business customers include Peugeot Citroenand Jaguar, you know that you’re dealing with the very best butZunsport doesn’t need to see a prestigious name on an order formto consider a client special.

“All of our customers are special,” Peter insists. “That is whyeveryone who buys a Zunsport grille is immediately enrolled into ourMembers Club where they receive discounts, information, and entryto our quarterly prize draw.”

We would like to congratulate Aldridge Accident Repair Centre on their 90th anniversary and wish

them continued success for the future

GOOD old-fashioned family business values ofoutstanding customer service, attention to detail and highquality work have seen Aldridge Accident Repair Centrethrough decades of success.

But that’s the only thing old-fashioned about the companywhich, as it marks its 90-year anniversary in 2011, continues todemonstrate its 21st century approach, not least by keeping intune with the modern-day concerns of today’s motorist.

No wonder it’s been designated a BSI ‘Superbrand’ - one ofthe country’s first accident repair centres to be so - and votedthe most loved repair and service centre in the UK by the GreatBritish public.

Aldridge Accident Repair Centre(AARC) was established in 1921by former First World War drillsergeant Billy Bunn who, withmeticulous attention to detail, was the driving force behind thecompany’s growth until hisretirement, aged 70.

It is now housed within fresh, attractive and welcoming premisesat Vigo Place, which include a purpose-designed 12,000 sq ftworks facility boasting the latest state-of-the-art industryequipment, including computerised body and chassis alignmentsystems and computerised wheel and suspension alignment.

A member of the Motor Vehicle Repairers Association (nowincorporated within the Retail Motor Industry’s Federation), andholder of the RMI `Trust My Garage` Shield, other services areundertaken by expert staff fully trained in the latest techniquesand well versed in the importance of customer care and quality, include: tyre replacement, paintless dent removal, windscreenrepairs, valeting service, alloy wheel repairs and parking sensorsinstallation.

And all that AARC does is backed up by its status as a BritishStandards Institution (BSI) Kitemarked Superbrand.

This prestigious accolade, awarded only after stringent externalassessments, was recently introduced by the BSI for garagesand workshops which exceeded its Kitemark Quality standardand has only been awarded to the top 200 of a 500-strongbusiness superbrand listing.

It’s no wonder that AARC, being at the forefront of ‘best workingpractices’ is recognised as one of the most innovative independentlocal businesses in the motor industry - it has also achieved thehighest technical standards for the industry `PAS 125`.

Today’s third generation owner and MD Martin Collins, who hasmore than 30 years’ experience, believes the strength of thebusiness is based on exceeding customers’ expectations - and isstill surprised by the number of third generation clients AARC has.

“When a vehicle is damaged, even if it’s only a few small dents, itcan be the start of an extremely stressful time for the owner,” hesays. “However, let our customer care team can take care of youand we will process all your paperwork, organise your courtesycar and booking dates. We are small enough to care and bigenough to repair and we can take the dent out of your accident.”

It’s that combination of caring for customers and its ownenvironmental practices that sees AARC offer an eco re-tuningservice to motorists fed up with rising fuel prices, from which itsown fleet of cars is already benefitting.

Having invested in full technical facilities it can eco re-calibrate -or retune - turbo diesel cars, vans or light commercial vehiclesto deliver up to 20% improvement in fuel economy and/or up to40% more power which not only saves fuel, it helps driversreduce their carbon footprint.

For more details on this or any other AARC service, goto www.aarc.co.uk or telephone 01922 452103.

FILTER FIT is a star and a headline act in the filtrationindustry - no wonder it counts the nationally renownedBirmingham Hippodrome theatre among a long list ofsatisfied clients.

But then customer satisfaction is what this small Vale ofEvesham company is all about, with its origins based firmly inthe ambitions of its directors to make up for what they hadseen lacking elsewhere.

MD Louise Garfield and operations director David Hickslaunched Filter Fit in 2008 after despairing at the lack ofcustomer service they were seeing towards clients in previousemployed roles.

David, who has many years’ experience in the filtration industry, and Louise, who comes from a sales and retail manufacturingbackground, based their new company in Honeybourne and, right from day one, have designed everything to work aroundcustomers, with customers’ needs the priority.

Combined with quick product turnaround times and a verycompetitive pricing structure, it’s proved to be a recipe for success.

Just over three years on from launch, there are plans to doubleFilter Fit’s storage capacity by moving to an even biggerwarehouse nearby.

Now with a staff of five, the company specialises in the supply, fitting and disposal of commercial and industrial air filters andfan belts, dealing with some of the country’s most prestigiousmaintenance companies.

And it cares about maintaining a long-term happy relationshipwith every one of those clients. For the BirminghamHippodrome alone it has carried out filter changes and disposalfor the last three years.

“We can provide a total service,” promises David. “There’s noone turning up changing the filters and leaving the dirties sittingin a plant room.

“We are licensed by the Environment Agency to transfer andcarry waste and so we take them away and issue a wastetransfer notice to confirm that all legislation with regard to safedisposal has been complied with.”

Safety is paramount and underlining Filter Fit's commitment toproviding safe working environments for staff and public, is itsrecently-awarded accreditation with CHAS (Contractors Healthand Safety Scheme), which now runs along its Safe ContractorsAccreditation.

On the supply side, Filter Fit stocks a range of standard sizepleated panels (although non-standard sizes are obtainable),bag filters in varying sizes, fan belts, glass panels and mediapads and its central geographical location proves perfect forguaranteeing next-day delivery.

“If there is something that you require urgently, there will alwaysbe somebody at the end of the phone when you call ournumber,” insists David.

“Many times we have managed to help those who have notbeen able to give us any prior notice and it is because of thisservice that people come back to us again and again.”

A top-class and efficient service requiring minimal effort on thepart of the customer, and a commitment to keeping down thecost of replacement filters, while maintaining high-qualityproducts and advice such as product development - a star inthe filtration firmament indeed.
