A Responsible Citizen: I have responsibilities
To our community and those in need, offering donations and positive message
Catholic connections found in the play will be emphasized and talked about with the actors and
audience.
The true meaning of Christmas is not about the presents under the tree or the hustle and bustle of
food and festivity but the quiet reflection of our Savior’s birth and what joy and comfort that brings to
everyone.
Reflect on the true giving nature of our community and help those in need with donations and time.
31
Just In The Nick of Time is a delightful story that brings across the true meaning of Christmas. It is the
story of Humbug, a disillusioned man, who is the story’s prodigal son. Like many of us, he lacks
patience and faith in Christmas, allowing himself to become bitter and resentful towards the entire
idea of giving. The prodigal son returns, devoid of faith, bent on destruction, and asking for a reason
to believe, to understand the real meaning of the Christmas story. Santa, representing the unlimited
compassion of God, accepts him back and shows him that what he was looking for was waiting there
for him all along.
Set in Santa’s village, the play uses each character to uniquely reflect the Christian message of faith,
hope, forgiveness and love that awaits anyone who is willing to have patience and listen. As the
colour fades from Santa’s village in the play, we see our own lives losing their meaning without the
focus of Christ. Once we come to know the real meaning of Christmas, our lives become colourful
once more. This story portrays each of us in Humbug, with all our failings, and Santa in the spirit of
his true identity as Saint Nicholas, a personification of Christ in our midst. Hiding within the secular
story is the message of Christ and the true meaning of Christmas, made available to young children in
a way that they can relate to, understand, and accept.
In the play program we will place a reminder of our up coming Heaven Cent campaign emphasizing
our three pillars of faith Adoption, Alms, Action. With descriptors as follows
A prayer card that shows Santa beside Jesus in cradle will also be placed in the program.
Adoring Santa is a wonderful way to teach anyone the true meaning of Christmas.
With Santa humbly knelt in adoration and prayer in front of the Christ Child,
it helps us refocus our celebrations on God’s greatest gift to us - His Son, Jesus.
32
Back of card reads:
Glory to God
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; And on those living in the land
of gloom, a light has shone. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the
government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:1.5
After the play’s conclusion, during the thank you, we will emphasize the true meaning of Christmas
and how as a Catholic Community we have all come together to showcase this calling. Part of our
proceeds will be donated to a community partner (Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent, ARCH..). We will thank
God for his guidance and love and for encouraging such a great group of students to embrace their
faith and put on a fantastic show.
We will then have a sing along with traditional Christmas hymns that are still sung today,
Angels We Have Heard on High
What Child Is This?
Silent Night
Joy to the World
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
O Come All Ye Faithful
O Holy Night
