SALES INR2MILLIONBRACKET SET TOGROW
Whenapropertymarketingfran-
chise which is part of a group
with just over 200 such franchis-
es is rated third in the Western
Cape and fifth in the groups na-
tional rankings for March 2013,
obviously something is going on
there.
This was said recently by Tony
Clarke, managing director of the
Rawson Property Group. The fran-
chise towhich hewas referringwas
the groups Paarl operation.
The Paarl groups performance
is especially remarkable because
Paarl isacountrytowninwhichone
would not normally expect sales to
be on a par with those of the highly
traded, more densely populated, ur-
ban suburbs, said Clarke.
Lizette Joubert, theRawsonProp-
erty Groups franchisee for Paarl,
said that her ranking in national
placing bears out what she has long
claimed would be the case, namely
that Paarl is a residential district
whose time has now come.
In the eight years that I have
owned the franchise in Paarl, we
havenever seenpricesdrop,despite
now having 200 homes on our stock
list, nor have we ever quite had
enough stock to meet the demand.
Right now that is verymuch the sit-
uation, with the result that in the
lower and middle brackets prices
are now rising at between 5% and
ed, are now more in evidence and
continue to drive the market.
To ensure that each price catego-
ry is adequately served by her eight
agent team, Joubert has allocated
them to specific areas.
We now have specialists serving
delineated areas and this includes
the outlying, often upmarket sub-
urbs such as Boschenmeer, Val de
Vie and Pearl Valley. We are espe-
ciallypopularbecauseweholdshow
houses every Sunday.
Joubertaddedthatsheisquitefre-
quently told by buyers that asmuch
as they love Paarl and would like to
live there, its prices are now too
high.
The answer to that, I have to tell
them, is that, firstly, they should
consider buying slightly below the
standard they have become accus-
tomed to because it is alwaysworth-
while to get a foothold in Paarl; sec-
ondly, that prices are still low by
comparison with our main rivals,
Stellenbosch and Franschoek and,
thirdly, thatalmostanybuyinPaarl
will be a good one because prices
here will continue to increase sig-
nificantly in the next five to six
years and there are not too many
South African towns of which one
can say that, said Joubert.
For further information contact
Lizette Joubert on 083 469 8946 or e-
mail her at paarl@rawsonproper-
ties.com.

age being achieved within 27 days
and within 9% of the asking price,
whereaspreviouslytheaveragewas
closer to 15%.
Although there isagrowing inter-
est in top priced homes, said Jou-
bert, most of the action is still in
the middle and lower priced brack-
ets.
Altogether 42% of her franchises
sales this year has been in the R1
million to R1,5 million bracket and
45% in the R600,000 to R1 million
bracket. The remaining 13% was,
however, above R2million and Jou-
bert believes this proportion is like-
ly to increase from now on.

NewServiceOffered toProtect LandlordsRights
A New Service has been launched in the Western Cape to assist owners who rent out their properties. For those property
owners who have experienced orwant to avoid a non compliant tenant, loss of income, property damage or even the expense
of an eviction, this service is for you. In addition to the routine propertymanagement taskof bookkeeping, advertising, vetting
clients, contractual task, property status documentation, etc., this service levels the playing fieldwhich is by law, skewed to the
tenants benefit. If in fact a tenant becomes non-compliant, our service initiates the eviction process and pays the legal cost of
eviction. It also pays the full monthly rental to the Landlord for a fixed period whilst the eviction process is taking place,
property damages, andevenunpaidutility bills incurredby the tenant. Foramoredetaileddescriptionof this service please go

Whybuyingproperty is
agood investment
Why buy property? Its an important
question that needs to be answered be-
fore you take the plunge.
The first reality to consider is that you
have to live somewhere. That gives you two
options: rent or buy. There is no doubt that
if you rent, it will almost always cost you
less to enjoy the benefits of a property than
it will to purchase the same property. Ini-
tially.
If you take the cost of rental versus the
cost of ownership over 20 years though,
there is a very different picture.
Rentals usually escalate on an annual ba-
sis at anything from 5%10%. So as times
goes on, it will cost you more to rent, while
your bond instalment will remain more
constant and could even drop if interest
rates drop.
At the endof 20 years youwill ownaprop-
ertythatwillbepaidoff (or25years,depend-
ing on the term of your bond). If you rent,
after 20yearsyouwill havenothing to show
for the 240 monthly rental payments you
made. Nothing.
If you have purchased property, you will
have a valuable asset that is 100% paid for.
Youacquireanasset that increases inval-
ue with a liability that decreases and the
gap between the asset value and your debt
is your wealth. Sounds like a no-brainer to
me.
Are there other investments that could
give you a better short-term return on your
capital? Most definitely. Property is not,
and has never been, a short-term invest-
ment. But there is a significant difference
betweenproperty investment, andother in-
vestments.
If you were, for example, to purchase
sharesor equities, youwouldhave to invest
cash banks wont lend
youmoney tomake the in-
vestment.
When you purchase
property you can gear it
whichmeans you can bor-
row from the bank to pur-
chase, even up to 100% of
your purchase price.
And therein lies the big
difference: the ability of
an investor to use the
banks money to acquire
an asset that grows.While
the investor does have to
service the debt, the total
gain on the investment is
for thebenefit of the inves-
tor.
There are some other
benefits to owning your
own property. Not to be
underestimated is the
psychological benefit. It is very satisfying
to own your own home. You can improve
it as time goes on, and youwill benefit both
in terms of the use of the property, and the
future return on investment. When you
ownproperty you are obligated tomake the
monthly payments so its almost like
forced saving. And South Africans are un-
fortunately not good at saving, so say the
experts.
When should you invest in property? The
best time to invest is
when the selling prices
are realistic. Sellers are
mostly very realistic
now, having adjusted
their expectations and
taken the market into
consideration. So now
is a great time to buy.
In addition to this,
banks are looking at fi-
nance applications
more favourably, espe-
cially if you have a de-
posit. So before you en-
ter into another lease
agreement, why not
have a look at proper-
ties that may work for
you.Youmaypayalittle
more than your rental
initially,butyouwillbe
glad you invested in
property when you sell one day.

SUV: KOREANGIANT STRIKES AGAIN
Hyundai impresseswith the
newSante Fe
FRANS LE ROUX
A
few years ago, the South
African public was cer-
tainly not to blame when
they opted to rather pass on the
opportunity to purchase a Kore-
an car.
Nowin2013 thingsare lookingup.
With a host of fresh new products
from Hyundai, buyers would defi-
nitely be ignorant if their products
are not on their short-list. Cars like
the newSante Fe iswhat a company
builds its brand upon.
SouthAfricans like largecars.We
have a undying love for all things
SUV. Just thinkof themassive sales
in the bakkie segment, the gigantic
figures of MLs, X5s and Range Rov-
ers sold.
This isHyundais thirdofferingof
their spacious, well equipped and
most importantly,well pricedSante
Fe. Resting on the success of its
predecessors, theSanteFehasa loy-
al following amongst fans. One gets
the sense that the new car wants to
steal buyers away from other Ger-
man SUVs. After testing it for a few
days, I can honestly say it is a bril-
liant vehicle.
Having driven the previous mod-
el extensively and on long trips, the
new car is in a league of its own.
Starting with the overall shape
and design, in this size I think it is
the best looking Hyundai on the
market. From every angle, one feels
that the metal was purposefully
moulded to entice your visual sens-
es.The front,with itsangular lights,
large grille and low bumper, just
oozes masculinity. At the back
things are a bit more subdued, but
it retains a bold stance. The Sante
Fe has gone on a diet, with all its di-
mensions being smaller than the
outgoingmodel.Theroof-lineis low-
er and the boot smaller. This is by
no means a bad thing as it adds to
its youthful appeal.
The interior is another step up. I
have tested a few new Hyundais,
and like the rest of the brand, this
has vastly improved. From the
leather-clad dashboard to the silver
and black facia, everything has its
rightful place. The blue light info
screen does look somewhat dated in
such a modern SUV. The black
leathergear lever feels likeaquality
shifter. The seats are wonderfully
comfortable and the rear legroom is
ample. The access height at the boot
whenloadingcargo,wontbeaprob-
lem for the average person.
While driving the Sante Fe, I was
astounded by the way it effortlessly
wentaboutdoing itsbusiness.From
the super smooth 6-speed auto gear-
box to the quiet 2.2 litre 4-cylinder
diesel mill, everything just works,
and works well.
I drove close to 500 kilometres on
various road conditions and I can
proudlysay that theSanteFepassed
with flying colours. I was, however,
scepticabouthowthecarwould fare
onroughruttedgravel roads. It does
not havehigh ground clearance and
the front bumper sits low over the
road. On a bad stretch of 30 kilome-
tres gravel road, I didnt once expe-
rience the suspension bottomout. It
just soaked up all the bumps, glided
over rocks and cushioned its way
forward.
This beauty is powered by a third
generation diesel engine and is
rated at 145 kW/436 Nm. For such a
relatively small engine, it packs a
mighty punch.
Acceleration is brisk with 0-
100 km/h taking only 9,8 seconds.
Fuel consumption is admirable
with my average being 8 L/100 km.
Overtaking is effortless with the
huge amount of torque on offer.
While cruising at 120 km/h, the rev
counter hovers just above
2 000 rpm.
As I previously stated, the SUV
market is an extremely competitive
segment. The Sante Fe does not
quite fight it outwith the likes of the
bigger Germans, but rather the me-
dium-sized competitors. Audis Q5
and BMWs X3 are priced to com-
pare with the Sante Fe. Although in
sheer size, the Korean thumps its
opposition.
Prices start at R 444 900 for the
Premium (2WD) and continue to
rise towards R 524 900 for the Elite
(AWD). A comprehensive service
plan includes 5 year/90 000 km and
a 5 year/150 000 km manufacturers
warranty. Service intervals are set
at 15 000kmandroadside assistance
is included for 5 years/150 000 km.
This was honestly the first Kore-
an car I truly found hard to fault.
Everything in this package works,
and it does so very well.
If you take the good fuel consump-
tion, smooth ride, gearbox and the
overall look of the car, you are left
with a brilliant vehicle.
Hyundais new Sante Fe is hard to fault from any angle. The power delivery is smooth and the overall package
worth a look. PHOTO: QUICKPIC

ToyotaEnviroOutreachdiscoversnewplant species
Scientists and students from
the University of Johannes-
burg, the South African Na-
tional Biodiversity Institute,
University of Pretoria andUni-
versity of Cape Town spent a
fortnight in April visiting sev-
eral floristically interesting
sites in the extremely arid
Gariep andUpperNama-Karoo
regions of the Northern Cape.
Highlight of the 2013 ToyotaEn-
viro Outreach, the fifth in the an-
nual scientific study programme
that seeks to safeguard South Af-
ricas natural wealth and reduce
biodiversity loss, was the discov-
ery of a rare species of plant last
seen seven years ago.
Their common purpose was to
document and DNA barcode the
flora of the region. During their
visit they collected more than 500
individual plants representing
400 species. They found a few
plants theydidnot expect, like the
new species of Trachyandra dis-
covered in the Gamsberg Moun-
tains near Aggenys and Eragros-
tis sarmentosa, collected at Raap
en Skraap, which is the first dis-
tributionrecordforthisspecies in
the area.
When the tiny Trachyandra
bulb was first discovered in 2006
there were no photographs taken
or samples gathered to support
the finding.Consequently it could
not be recognised as a new spe-
cies.
The sample gathered during
Toyotas Enviro Outreach will
now be used to confirm the au-
thenticity of the new species and
this will be added to the 100 or
more new species found annually
in South Africa.
It will be exciting to follow the
classificationprocessandtoknow
that Toyota Enviro Outreach
played a significant role in this
achievement, said Prof Michelle
van der Bank of the African Cen-
tre for DNABarcoding (ACDB) in
the Department of Botany and Bi-
otechnology at the University of
Johannesburg, who was the lead
scientist on the project.
The team of scientists will now
spend the next few months sort-
ing, identifying and DNA barcod-
ing their plant collections.
The project forms part of the In-
ternational Barcode of Life
Project (iBOL).
All the data generated will be
uploaded on to theBarcode of Life
Data Systems (BOLD), an online
informatics platform, where it
will become part of a growing ref-
erence library of DNA barcodes
for South African plants and ani-
mals that will be freely available
for use by the broader scientific
and amateur naturalist commu-
nities.
Onbehalfof thescientific team
and our partners from the Inter-
national Barcode of Life project I
wish to expressmydeepgratitude
to Toyota SouthAfricaMotors for
providing a fleet of vehicles and
the unique opportunity through
the Toyota Enviro Outreach to
collect samples for DNA barcod-
ing and to document the flora of
the Northern Cape, where access
is usually difficult if not impossi-
ble, said Prof Van der Bank. Toyota Enviro Outreach programmes vehicles trekking through the Karoo. PHOTO: QUICKPIC

ISUZU KB BAKKIE LAUNCHED: Westvaal motors launched the Isuzu KB bakkie at a
special venue recently. The launch highlighted the bigger build of the bakkie, which
boasts several variations without departing from the classic feature that makes Isuzu
bakkie so reliable, says Westvaal dealer principle Herman Language. Its rugged but
stylish. The launch gave prospective buyers the chance to experience the new bakkie
in the scenic setting of the wine farm of Ernie Els outside Stellenbosch. The wine farm
also provided some offroad routes to put the new vehicle to the test. The test drives
and interactive presentation were in line with Westvaals aim to provide a unique client
experience, with their focus on warm and friendly service at the Stellenbosch and Som
erset West branches, Language says. The launch saw famous faces as well as prospec
tive buyers and long term customers, in the form of Helderberg radios Tommy Dell and
Isuzu brand ambassador, and Strand resident, Ian Strauss. As the final touch, once the
dust settled after the test drives, guests enjoyed a wine tasting provided by the venue.

The newEC7 embodies theGeelyAutomo-

launch the new luxury Emgrand sub-brand
in South Africa, says HenriMeistre, Manag-
ing Director of Geely SA. It is a car of many
firsts, with particular reference to its country
of origin and the subsequent competitors.
The EC7 is based on an entirely new Em-

The interior design of the EC7 features two

the instrument panel. The centre console
houses a CD/radio combination and an easy

Powered by theGeTec 1.8 litre engine deliv-

accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 10.5
seconds (Chinese figures), reaching a top-

At a launch price of under R150 000, and de-

Also unexpected from anything out of Chi-
na and a direct result of Geelys new vision
for quality are the low levels of noise, vibra-
tion and harshness (NVH) in this car.
Transfer of noise from the wind and road
surface at any speed is unobtrusive, while en-
gine noise even at high acceleration is at
just the right level, yet negligible, to realise
a positive driving feel.
The opening and closing of the doors usu-
ally a tell-tale sign of build quality, or the lack
thereof gives a solid feeling and has a deep,
quality sound, not an empty clank as inmany
modern cars of this day and age.
ThenewEmgrandEC7,whichwill be avail-
able through each of Geelys 40 plus dealer-
ships all over South Africa and in Namibia,
will be launched at the very competitive price
of R149 990 for the GL Luxury and R164 990
for the GT Executive, which apart from the
electric drivers seat also boasts ESC (elec-
tronic slip control), 4 additional airbags and
an electric sunroof.
Seven exteriors colours are available Mo-
cha Red, Danaube Blue, Gothic Black, Scot-
land Red, Athens White, Vienna Gold and
Alps Silver.
Both vehicles will be covered by Geelys 5-

plans are available) aswell as 2-year road side

Chevrolet Trailblazer
unlimited family fun!

Chevrolets Trailblazer
SUV has been making
waves in the SouthAfrican
market since its launch in
October 2012.
Spearheading a new seg-
ment for the brand inSouth
Africa, the Trailblazer has
been taking on the best in
the segment and bringing
with it an arsenal of value
for money, smart features,
class-leading attributes
and a new way of doing
things.
The Trailblazer was also

Trailblazer: a car thewhole
family can enjoy
With its bold yet easy-on-
the-eye styling, which incor-
poratesacommandingstance
with large wheels and a bold
body as well as a smart ap-
pearance thanks to the dual-
port Chevrolet front grille,
the Trailblazer appeals on all
levels.
Dad loves its large, pur-
poseful wheels and meaty
body; mom loves sitting high
up in traffic where the view
out over the bonnet gives her
a sense of empowerment.
The kids however, love it
for different reasons. Theres
so much space! With seven
seats and an exceptionally
practical seating design,
their best friends can come
along for family fun on the
weekend, too.
Not to mention how cool
they feel when mom picks
themup fromschool in the af-
ternoon, parked right outside

The familys recent Easter
Weekend trip to Magalies
turned out to be great fun.
With the Trailblazers third
row of seats neatly tucked in-
to the floor, everyones lug-
gage fitted in snugly even
dads fishing tackle box and
moms vanity bag. Not to
mention the fishing rods,
which were cleverly disman-
tled and stored in the Trail-
blazers sneaky under-floor
storage box in the boot. Not
one for a tent and sleeping on
the ground, mom insisted the
caravan just had to come
along as well, which was no
problem for the Trailblazer
with a towing capacity of up
to 2950 kg, it also makes light
work of towing the horse box
when sister has a show to get
to.
Dad always loves getting
mud under his wheel arches
so naturally, an off-road trail
and picnic excursion was in
order on Easter Sunday.
With 231 mm of ground
clearance, short overhangs
front and rear as well as a
clever drive mode switch,
even ambitious dad couldnt
find a trail too tough for the
Trailblazer.
Thanks to four-wheel
drive, lowrangeanda limited
slip rear differential, the
Trailblazer made mincemeat
of rocky inclines, muddy
ditches and even the steepest
of inclines. Not to mention it
was super-comfy over the
bumps.
Great value, great spec,
great performance
And, the South African

Chevrolet Brand Manager,

launched the Trailblazer in
the last quarter of 2012 with
firm intent to shake up the

since then speak for them-
selves.
With its excellent specifica-
tion levels, great all-rounder
personality,wide range of ap-
peal and brilliant adaptabili-
ty, the Trailblazer has done
all the hard work for us. Not
to mention its class-leading
attributes, of course.
As a value-for-money prop-
osition especially, the Chev-
rolet Trailblazer is able to
take on the stalwarts of the

and pleasantly at that.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Trailblazer 2.5D LT

Ferraris F12Berlinetta supercar
QUICKPIC
VigliettiMotors the official Fer-
rari importer in South Africa
has revealed the new F12 Berli-
netta; the model which ushers in
the new generation of Prancing
Horse V12s.
The debut of the F12 Berlinetta in
South Africa adds the finishing
flourish toanall-newrangeof 12-cyl-
indermodels that, inthespaceof just
four years, has achieved the objec-
tiveofofferingdifferentFerraris for
different Ferraristi.
The F12 Berlinetta matches ever
increasing power outputs with
greater efficiency resulting in re-
duced fuel consumption and emis-
sions by an impressive 30%;
achieved through in-depth, 360-de-
gree research into all vehicle sys-
tems engine, aerodynamics, tyres,
brakes and ancillaries. This places
theF12at the topof thesegmentwith
15l/100 km and 350 g/km of CO re-
spectively.
The F12 Berlinetta is the most
powerful and high-performance
road-going Ferrari ever. Sporting a
new V12 engine, it is built around
highly evolved transaxle architec-
ture and features state-of-the-art
components and control systems.
The F12 Berlinettas aerodynamics
has also been honed to the extreme
in an innovative design that rede-
fines classic Ferrari themes.
The wheelbase is shorter and its
engine,dashboardandseatsare low-
er in the chassis. A new suspension
and gearbox layout helped reduce
the cars rear volume. The result is
a shorter, lower and narrower car
thanthepreviousV12coup.TheF12
Berlinettaboasts idealweightdistri-
bution (54% over the rear axle) as
well as a lower centre of gravity that
is further back in the chassis.
The spaceframe chassis and body-
shell are completely new, and now
incorporate no less than 12 different
aluminium alloys, some of which
have been used for the first time in
the automotive sector. New assem-
blyand joining technologieswereal-
so adopted in its construction. This
has allowed the cars overall weight
to be kept to just 1 525 kg and has
maximised its performance efficien-
cywith torsional rigidity boosted by
20 per cent.
The new, 200-bar direct-injection
6262cc 65 V12 engine delivers un-
precedentedperformance foranatu-
rally-aspirated12-cylinder. Itpunch-
es out a maximum of 544 kW at 8250
rpm, with a specific power output of
87 kW/l and maximum revs of 8700
rpm record figures for this type
of engine. Responsiveness and
strongpick-upisguaranteedbymax-
imum torque of 690 Nm, 80 per cent
of which is readily available at
2500 rpm.
Aerodynamics play a major role,
and a host of innovative solutions
have been discreetly integrated in
the F12s styling. These include the
Aero Bridge which, in a first, uses
the bonnet to generate down force.
It employs Active Brake Cooling;
a system that opens guide vanes to
the brake cooling ducts only at high
operating temperatures.
The result of these interventions
is that the F12 Berlinetta has the
highest overall aerodynamic effi-
ciency of any Ferrari ever built (a
value of 1.2 which is double that of
the 599 GTB Fiorano) with down-
force of 123 kg at 200 km/h and a Cd
of just 0,299. The result of collabora-
tion between the Ferrari Styling
Centre andPininfarina, the F12Ber-
linetta featuresharmoniousandbal-
anced proportions. It is a truly origi-
nal, innovative coup with all of the
signature features of an authentic
Ferrari 12-cylinder.
Clothed in sleek, aggressive lines,
it offers superb occupant space and
comfort despite its relatively com-
pact dimensions.
The rear is characterised by a
modern, functionalreinterpretation
of the Kamm tail which seamlessly
integrates the two vertical fences of
thereardiffuser.Theresulting,orig-
inal T-shape also incorporates two
full-LED circular tail-lights and the
clearly F1-inspired rear fog light.
The F12 Berlinettas technical
specifications are completed by the
very latest version of the carbon-ce-
ramicbraking system (CCM3), a fur-
ther evolution of the magnetorheo-
logical suspension (SCM-E) and the

Demand for Peugeot cars
buoyant in SouthAfrica
Despite softening demand for new vehi-
cles, sales of Peugeot passenger and light
commercial vehicles continue to showpos-
itive strides. The French auto maker re-
corded a total tally of 411 units in March
2013, representing an increase of 17 % on
February levels.
The trend is mirrored when comparing
year-on-yearsales,withPeugeotSAsyear-
to-date sales for 2013 showing an increase
of 17,7% on the same period last year.
The achievement is all the more signifi-
cant against a backdrop of slowing indus-
try sales. Overall demand for newvehicles
in South Africa rose by a modest 3,3 % in
March, compared to February this year,
andwas actually down2,8%onMarch 2012
levels.
Yeartodate, industrysaleswereup4,1 %
compared to 2012.
Driving Peugeots sparkling sales per-
formance was the growing demand for the
compact 208 among the first of a new-gen-
eration of B-segment hatchbacks to reach
local shores.
Thenewcomersarrival in the latterpart
of 2012 coincided with increasing interest
in more compact and more economical
cars that still providehigh levels of sophis-
tication and a satisfying array of standard
features.
As a result, market acceptance of the 208
has been positive, both in SA and globally.
Internationally, February sales (with 20
700 registrations) confirmed the Peugeot
208as leader in thehotly contestedEurope-
an (29 countries) B segment hatchback cat-
egory, which it had conquered in Decem-
ber 2012.
The range is due for further expansion
with the release of the high-tech 208 GTI
variant, launching in South Africa during
July, which is expected to add further mo-
mentum to demand for the hatchback.
The improvement in the French brands
sales locally has also been positively influ-
enced by Peugeots unwavering commit-
ment to the SA market, with a particular
emphasisbeingplacedonupping sales and
after-sales service levels.
The Peugeot Premium Plan, a five-year
full maintenance offering on all new Peu-
geot models, not only underscores that
commitment, but also offers buyers addi-
tional value and ownership peace ofmind.
A revamped dealer network has played
an important part in the substantial im-
provement of customer satisfaction levels,
whilealsoattractingnewlocal investment,
with theopeningofnewdealerships inNel-
spruit and Cape Town.
The March sales are heartening, and a

the customer car front are paying divi-
dends,commentsFrancisHarnie,manag-
ing director of Peugeot SA. Market condi-
tions are not easy at present, and to show
strong growth at this juncture is particu-
larly gratifying.
Harnie is convinced that Peugeots con-
sistent focus on improving service levels
are at the core of the growing demand for
the brands products.
Wevebeenanunderratedbrand for too
long, and our drive to meet the require-
ments of our customers by offering excel-
lent service is a core part of the strategy
to put Peugeot in the limelight.

Leeroy Poulter and co-driver Elvene Coet-
zee won four of the seven special stages at
the recent Ocean Basket Rally in Port Eliza-
beth. Team mates Gemmell and Carolyn
Swan won one stage. Third were Henk Late-
gan and Barry White in a factory Volkswa-
gen Polo.
This was not about winning a regional
rally, this was an important opportunity for
us to test the changes and improvements
wevemade to the rally Yaris in preparation
for the next round of the SouthAfrican rally
championship, the Toyota Gauteng Dealer
Rally on May 31 and June 1, said Castrol
Toyota team principal, Glyn Hall.
Winning this rally and finishing 1-2
ahead of the three factory VW Polos in their
own back yard was a bonus.
We needed to test the cars under proper
racing conditions and the regional rally pro-
vided these.
Both Poulter, currently second in the SA
championship, and Gemmell, who is sixth,
werehappywith theircarsandreported that
the new developments worked well.
There is a definite improvement in per-
formance, said Gemmell.
Poulter was full of praise for the team.
This is a great result for the team who
have worked really hard to get the brand
new Yaris rally car to the level its at in just
its third event. Weve made great progress
and this give us a lot of confidence for the
next round of the national championship.
