Common Commitments
Goals for Campus Development
Everybody everyday! To challenge and strengthen a “culture of service” in which the school’s teaching, research, and service mission are integrated and every student, faculty, and staff is encouraged to serve.
Goals for Higher Education
Service-Based ScholarshipsTo form a consortium of diverse higher education institutions sharing a common commitment to service and to serve as a successful model to other institutions which are interested in starting service-based scholarship programs.
SERVICE: The first column ranks the school by the number of alumni who go on to serve in the Peace Corps, relative to school size. The second column ranks the school by the percentage of students who serve in ROTC. The third gives the percentage of funds in federal work-study money that goes to community service (versus non-community service). The fourth column shows the school’s rank on a combined measure of the number of students participating in community service and the total number of service hours performed, both relative to school size. The fifth column shows the school’s rank on a combined measure of the number of staff supporting community service, relative to the total number of staff; the number of academic courses that incorporate service, relative to school size; and whether the institution provides scholarships for community service.

Transformation
“Few wi! have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a sma! portion of events. It is "om numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other "om a mi!ion different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest wa!s of oppression and resistance.”
