Unit Components

getting Ready! Each unit starts with two questions or tasks aimed at preparing the student to think about the upcoming theme of the unit.

new Words! This section highlights six vocabulary words integral to the story of the unit.

What do you Think? Students are asked to think of a question from the story, creating a link from text to self.

Reading Time With the aim of reading fluency, students time and record their reading of the story.

Story Time! Each unit includes a simple story of 100-120 words, which the student will read.

in your own Words! Students are given the opportunity to answer comprehension questions in their own words, initially guided by a prompt.

Put it in order! Students are given practice with sentence construction and syntax. They must rearrange the words to form sentences from the story in the unit.

new Word Review In this section, the students show their understanding of the meanings of the six new words by using them in novel sentences.

dictation! Focusing on listening skills and word recognition, the students must listen to the recording of the story being read and determine which words fill in the blanks.

Key Sentence The key sentence allows extra practice of meaning, syntax, and fluency by devoting time and effort to one sentence.

there are toys and clothes all over her room.

Nora’s floor is clear.
