New Website The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed we have had a complete overhaul of the website to make it a little easier to navigate and generally just look a bit nicer. I’d encourage you all to take a look and have a browse. The home page features some nice photos of John Yearley, Will Hughes and Sam Cook. If there is anything you would like to see more of on the website then please let me know.

70th Anniversary The club celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. The committee considered various ideas to celebrate the occasion but in the end have decided upon a new investment to create a lasting legacy to the club. Full details of that initiative are being agreed and we will report more in due course – watch this space!

Hook Wood British Championship Some of us headed down to Surry to watch a round of the British championship at Hook Wood. Jack Shep was riding really well and the only guy who looked capable of beating Dabill but in the end he was off the podium after some silly mistakes. Adrian was offering his advice but fortunately Jack ignored all of it. Stanley meanwhile had great fun jumping in puddles all afternoon and allowed his dad to watch some really good action.

Ray Clampin Memorial Trial On Sunday 21st August several club riders rode at the Castle run trial at Purls Hill. Now open to riders of all ages they faced 3 laps of 12 round the wood. Derek started the trial the traditional way with riders setting of at minute intervals. For number 6 a certain Mr G Palmer that meant he was on his 2nd lap by the time some of us had even started! Phil Read done well to survive unscathed from a massive crash on section 6 where the novice route descended a somewhat daunting drop off down a loose climb. Phil went straight over the top after the front wheel hit a tree stump and a broken mudguard and early bath was the outcome. Adrian tackled the section on the first lap but after hearing of Phil’s plight decided to give it a miss on the next lap! James was the real star of the day turning back the years to have one solidary loss of 3 marks in one section the entire day to take a convincing outright win. Great to see him back on form.

Langford Museum of Power

On 7th August we were out in force at the annual festival at the Museum of Power. A great day was had by all who enjoyed glorious weather. Unfortunately no one fancied giving a trials demonstration and all the bikes stayed on the stands! Even Roy wasn’t there this year giving his ride through the pipe party piece! Thanks to all those that attended to help promote the club and thanks to Dave Clarke for organising.

Snaque Pit Trial Back in July we held a Saturday evening trial at the Snaque Pit. I was on holiday so missed the action but I’ve heard it was a good event and had a fairly healthy entry of 35. James rode again and rode well apart from 2 early 5’s on the same section that put him down into 4th in the Experts. Squeak was just 2 marks back on 12 to take the Expert B win. Bat came second in the inters riding the old Fantic so that was a good ride indeed. Shocker of the day has to be the ride by chairman Steve who finished 2nd last on a mighty 38 marks. Not sure what the excuse was – maybe a bad back! Martin Baker took a good win on the white route dropping just one mark all evening over the 5 laps!

CLUB TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 One more event have passed since the last newsletter and that was the Saturday evening trial at Snaque reported on above. Updated tables below. You will notice a real battle going on in the Inters with Bat’s win taking him level on marks with chairman Steve. This one could go anyway before the end of the year! Martin has taken a solid lead in the Inter B’s while in the Novice class Carl keeps grinding out results to take a slight lead. Remember we drop the worst 3 scores so even if you haven’t rode any of the events yet you could still claim a little place in club history and take home a bit of plastic for the mantel piece if you ride the next few events.
