From the Director: Tammy BaggettLocations

School is back in session, and Durham County Library is an ideal destination to help meet homework needs – or to help little ones prepare academically for their big first day at school, whenever that will be. We have resources and activities for all ages. Below you will find a few ways that the library can offer assistance.

Engaging storytimes promote a love of reading for young children and reinforce to parents and caregivers the importance of reading together.

Puzzles and readalongs give pre-school children the early literacy and concentration skills they’ll need in kindergarten.

Online resources for research, including databases for homework help, make it easy to access information quickly – from any location.

The North Carolina Collection is a great place to find local and state history. There are also digital photograph collections and online exhibits on our website at durhamcountylibray.org.

Personalized attention from library staff will help you find materials you need to complete your assignments.

Study rooms are available for up to two hours at a time, and they provide a quiet space for you to read alone or study with friends.

We have computers in the children’s area of every library, and some of our locations have computers designated specifically for teens as well. You can sign in on any available computer by typing in your library card number and then entering your PIN.

Many libraries have tutoring available after school. Visit our website for times and

locations.

Did I mention books, CDs, DVDs and ebooks? We have a collection of nearly 500,000 items to choose from. You will find fiction and nonfiction materials to assist with homework or just for reading and viewing fun.

So, make sure you’re prepared for school. You will need pencils, paper, calculators, organizers and more, and one of the most important items – a Durham County Library Card. Visit the library often – either online or in person – for homework help or to prepare for school. Happy reading and learning as you begin the new school year!
