What Interns Can Expect to Learn From and Do For BCC

BCC will provide a great start to any future career in the legal field. Due to the breadth and depth of areas of BCC practices, the intern

will be exposed to the legal process from start to finish in a large variety of matters. The intern will assist in paralegal work, document

review, scheduling, digital and physical file or maybe even would assist during a jury trial. Areas of law will include litigation, business

Miss Evelyn Sweitzer founded the HSCA after holding a series of meetings about the conditions of the city pound. The concerned

citizens group eventually closed the pound and opened the Hammond Humane Society in 1941. The HSCA’s current location on 45th

Street in Munster opened in 2001. And, in 2009, the HSCA Intake Center opened on Calumet Avenue to house sick and newly

admitted animals. Leaders in the humane treatment of animals, the HSCA works individually and in partnership with similar valued

organizations, to create “a humane community for all animals through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and

compassion.” The Humane Society Calumet Area operates under a “no kill” philosophy: they do no euthanize an animal to provide

space for another incoming animal, nor do they euthanize based on age or breed. They do their best to place every adoptable animal

that comes through their shelter. And, they make every effort to ensure the animals that are adopted into the community are healthy

and behaviorally safe.

come prepared to work, learn and gain experience in their degree of study. Interns that possess the qualifications for a position that

becomes available are encouraged to apply with the City of Gary.
