Externiture offer a turnkey installation service that covers bus stop post installation, electrical trenching/ducting, kerb installation, foot-way construction,dropped kerb installation, line marking and real time sign fitting.

We also offer a full project management service for scheme delivery & installation.

We have developed in-house navigation and management systems that can take us to the exact location of any bus stop - reducing the opportunity for errors.

We provide planned and adhoc maintenance services including cleaning, route number changes, timetable posting, foliage removal, surveying, repairing flags and cases.

Externiture offers a range of posts suitable for all bus stop locations throughout the UK.

There are two designs available, as well as stock 76mm diameter posts suitable for banded applications.

The integrated EX-O System and VX-O System posts are extruded aluminium with bright silveranodised finish as standard.

Our aluminium posts meet highway requirements for breakaway. Both posts can accommodate electrical and data wiring looms for solar and real time solutions.

A range of powder coated colours are available for all post types.

Posts can be supplied from stock at 3.60m, 3.75m and 4.00m although other lengths can be supplied on request.

Foundation Sockets

An alternative to installing directly into the ground or pavement, foundation sockets offer the benefit of a quick changeover of damagedInfrastructure.

The socket is installed flush with the footway so there is no trip hazard. The integrated post isslotted into the socket and securely fixed with a machined block and stainless steel screws.

If a post needs to be replaced, the entire operation takes less than 3 minutes.

The VX-O post and socket also allows you to remove the post and rotate through 180 degrees to change the direction of the flag and timetable case if required.

The security fixings can be removed by a maintenance engineer with the specialist tool.

The post is removed and a new post is then installed. The machined security block is reattached and the operation is complete. If a stop needs to be closed down, the post can be removed and a blanking plate attached to cover the socket.

This offers significant cost savings for maintenance operations, and does not require a specialist installation crew as dedicated groundworks are not required. Furthermore, road space permits would not be needed.

Guide to flags

There are 5 different flag types available that fit across the Externiture post range and other suppliers’ posts. Construction ranges from welded stainless steel and aluminium to Linear Flats to suit individual budgets and requirements.

We supply flags in a variety of widths and heights, although there are stock sizes available.

In terms of sizing, consider the graphics size and the overall size as there is often a small difference.

Where a direct fit between a flag and a post cannot be made, the flag is supplied with a conversion bracket to join the components together. Our range has been designed to work perfectly with other integrated systems.

Use the guide below to work out which flag types are suitable for your existing posts and to confirm the specification for new infrastructure.

The Metropole is a welded, stainless steel premium quality flag aimed at the highest profile routes.

The flag fixes to a bracket on the EX-O post for quick fitting.

The Metropole is finished with moulded, colour-coded caps that can match the colour scheme on the rest of the post unit.

The Metropole starts from 580mm long to 880mm, holding from 4 to 20 route number spaces.

Metro-V

The Metro-V is a welded, stainless steel premium quality flag aimed at complementing the Metropole on high profile routes.

The flag is fixed directly to the EX-O post. The fixings are hidden by top and bottom Flat End Caps that finish off the flag.

The Metro-V sizing equates to 75% of the Metropole equivalent. The smallest stock size is 435mm, rising in 75mm increments as route numbers expand.

The MetroSlide is a fully welded, all-aluminium construction, strong and lightweight. The flag slides into channels in the post.

It is suitable for both the EX-O and VX-O systems, but can retro-fit other post systems.

MetroValue

To get the welded look at a budget price the MetroValue flag gives the appearance of solidity but uses compression to keep its shape in the channel of a post.

The MetroValue flag fits the VX-O post systems.

Linear Flat Flag

The Linear Flat Flag is a truly versatile design that can fit an integrated post or a banded post or column.

The design consists of a Y-shaped extrusion and a flat flag plate.

The Y extrusion fits direct to the wide post channel in the VX-O and via the universal bracket to other post systems.

The Linear extrusion can be permanently fixed to a post. The flag plate can be installed and

removed without adjusting the Linear extrusion. This makes flag changes very quick and simple.

But the strength of the Linear assembly is that the same extrusion can also be banded to 76mm posts or lighting columns. This keeps stock costs low, increases flexibility and makes maintenance a breeze.

Stock sizes are listed below but the Linear is available in any cut length from 300mm up to 1200mm.

How to produce artwork You may already have a standard flag design, if not, this is what you need to know.

Files should be a vector based, EPS or Ai are preferred - JPEG files are not suitable.

Make sure your file has “bleed”. This is a border that is printed and then cut away to give the “trimmed” flag size.

Your design might need to incorporate colours. Check with your internal graphics department. They should be able to give you the Pantone number (for example PMS 405C). Try to keep colours to a minimum as more colours increases cost, especially with screen printing.

Each flag required needs a flag name, destination, SMS code and route number grids (if applicable). This information needs to be supplied on a spreadsheet. Each service on a route number grid needs to be in a different column on the spreadsheet. We then run the graphics and stop-specific information through our Printegration software to produce proofs which are then submitted to you for approval and sign off.

Print Type

Fabricated flags have self-adhesive vinyl applied. These can be screenprinted or digitally printed.

The advantages of screenprint are that it is more UV stable and cost effective for long print runs (200 flags +)

Digital print is cheaper for shorter runs and is better when the design requires more than 3 colours. Digital print has to be laminated for external use. A high grade external UV stable laminate extends digital print life by 100% over unlaminated print.

Flat flags are often screenprinted directly to the plate. This extends graphical life. Stop specific information is applied with cut vinyl lettering.

Route Numbers

Route Numbers can be supplied as individual stickers or as complete grids.

Using our Printegration software we can produce Route Number Grids quickly and to your specifications.

Rules may include operator logos, parent and child services, route graphics and route order of

services. You also choose the font and the size of characters.

Route Number Grids can be sent to you as PDFs for approval. Once approved we can print and despatch, or alternatively, print and deploy, within 15 working days of sign off.

This Route Number Grid demonstrated shows how a service graphic is fitted into the grid. As this represents Service 3, it is placed at the head of the grid as it is the first numerical character.

The Printegrator software can link a bus service number with an operator. So if your Route Number Grid needs to display the operator’s logo as well as the service number this is simple to do.

The rules for this grid ask the child services to be placed into the same box as the parent service. When the data for this grid is run throughthe Printegration software it recognises that the “18A” is a child of the “18”. The software joins the two services together and the child service routes are placed in a pre-defined location and height.

The sequencing rules begin with numericalcharacters, moving to alphanumeric characters.This is why the “X1” is last in the grid. Route Numbers can be supplied in any format required from individual stickers to horizontal bands or number grids.

We have four case types available with vision widths ranging from 210mm to 297mm.

We build to last. Caps are cast aluminium, case chassis’ are extruded aluminium. Polycarbonate front screens can be supplied in 2mm or 3mm thicknesses.

Lengths are available from 300mm (A4) to 900mm (AAA4).

Longer lengths are available on request.

Built from robust cast aluminium caps and extruded aluminium body, the EX-O Case is a classic case design with access from either top or bottom cap. The cap has been designed to reduce water ingress to keep media dry.

The vision width is 270mm, with a maximum media width of 280mm.

The case comes with a backing board as standard and 3mm polycarbonate front panel for extra strength.

The EX-O case is available with a number of bracket options to allow it to fit almost any post type. Up to four cases can be grouped around a single post.

Real Time Information Displays

Externiture Real Time displays feature totally flexible architectures, designed to integrate with most Real Time Information systems and major bus stop system manufacturers. Our robust SIRI Interpreter software can be configured with any bus stop centric SIRI feed.

Each display family has been designed from the ground up with over 20 years of real world experience. We have created displays that are maintenance friendly and low in maintenance requirements, with excellent safety benefits. All models are designed around a common platform low-maintenance substructure that allows for quick deployment and fast repair times using an integrated electronics cartridge system. By focusing on maintenance friendly solutions, engineering costs can be kept low.

TFT Screens can be configured for flag, monolith or shelter mounting, with indoor and outdoor variants, all options with brightness ranging from 500 to 1600 NITS. LED Matrix displays vary from 2 line/16 character to 12 line/32 character

variations to provide a full suite of display options.

Displays are powered by advanced processors that feature full XYZ telematics to capture live environmental information such as adverse movement and alert you to the current status of the deployed digital signs. This combined with multi-Digital Signal Processors (DSP) and very low power consumption allows us to provide a very green product whilst making use of all currently available wireless technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. If there was a requirement to add Wi-Fi for public or internal use at the bus stop, the RE2 can be re-profiled with additional modules to turn it into a Wi-Fi hotspot. The RE Series processors will also give you the option of adding mini-CCTV functionality to your display with its onboard CMOS processor.

We offer full installation services, including trenching, ducting and wiring, plus final connection and NICEIC certification for an all-round Real Time solution.

EPS Encapsulated Postscript EPS files are more-or-less self-contained, reasonably predictable PostScript documents that describe an image or drawing and can be placed within another PostScript document

Finnial Roundel Typically a round plate at the top of a post which highlights a specific route number or letter

Flag Bus Flag, Bus Stop Flag Can be a Linear Flat or a hollow, fabricated

Foundation Socket Socket An extrusion that is set in the ground, finishing at ground level. The bus stop post fits into the socket and bolted securely. The post can be removed without removing the socket

Galvanising Plating Used on steel, galvanising is a protective zinc coating formed by dipping the metal into molten zinc. Greatly extends the lifespan of steel. Works best on bigger sections as heat in the galvanising process can warp thinner gauge steel

Insert strip Infill strip A powder coated strip of aluminium or plastic that fits a channel in a bus stop post. Used as a contrast between the popular bright silver anodised finish

Media Size The maximum printed size for paper media used in a timetable case

NFC Near Field Communication Near field communication is a set of standards for smartphones to establish com-munication with each endpoints by touching them together or bringing them into proximity, usually no more than a few inches

Pantone colour PMS A colour matching system primarily for the lithographic printing industry. Corporate designs often specify a Pantone or PMS colour such as PS201C. This can be best-matched against a RAL colour for a powder coated alternative

Polycarbonate Poly, Perspex Actually the name of the material, this is the front screen in a timetable case. Gen-erally available in 2mm or 3mm thickness’s. Normally specified as UV Stable Both Sides, meaning the material is resistant to yellowing

Powder coating Painting A surface treatment applied electrostatically to metal using a dry powder. Finishes can be any colour but the most common colours are from the RAL powder coating range or the BS series. Thickness’s vary but 100 microns is common for external use. Finishes can last 1 to 15 years

Pressure Board Backing plate, backing board, correx A generally flat piece of material that fits between a timetable case extrusion and the polycarbonate screen. Printed timetables are fixed to the pressure board

Priming Undercoat To achieve adhesion for powder coating, metals are first primed. The type of priming depends on the type of metal, but is often zinc-rich. Essential to ensure longevity of the powder coating

QR Quick Responce Code Quick Response Code is a type of matrix barcode, is is more commonly used because of its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard barcodes

RAL Reichs-Ausschuß für Leferbedingungen und Gütesicherung

A colour matching system for powder coating. RAL colours have 4 digits e.g. RAL 1234, the digits denoting a specific colour. Close matches can be made with other colour matching systems but it is unlikely that a perfect match can be made

Route Number Grid RNG, Service Numbers Printed grid showing numbers of all routes that serve a bus stop. Usually digitally printed and applied to the face of a flag

RTI RTPI Real Time Information

Security Screw Tamper Proof Fixing Stainless steel machine screw with a head with a central pin or unique shape that stops regular Allen keys from opening. There are many types of security heads. Com-mon in bus stop infrastructure are hex pin or trilobal heads

Tile Route tile, E-tile Square or rectangular display that is fitted into slots in a flag. Route numbers stickers are applied to the face of the display

Timetable Cluster Timetable Housing Describes 2 or more timetable cases that are fitted to a separate bracket that is fitted to the post. Mostly available in 2-way, 3-way or 4-way configurations. Lengths vary according to the timetable cases

Visible Height The height within a timetable case or on a bus stop flag where the graphics can be seen
