Which actions for the BBI JU objectives?
Legal & and financial aspects
BBI JU calls follow H2020 rules for participation, but:
• No BBI JU funding for large industries in RIA & CSA !!!

Open Access
Open access to publications
• Contractual obligation for all scientific publications generated from H2020 actions
Open access to research data
• It is not a contractual obligation, but shall be promoted
• Automatically opted-in, but can opt-out at any stage
• Implemented via the Data Management Plan
• It is not an evaluation criterion
Costs: are eligible for reimbursement during the project duration.

Who can participate?
• Any legal entity from all over the world
Legal entity means natural or legal person created & registered under national law
e.g. large industry, SMEs, research organisations, universities, NGOs, etc.
• International organisations and JRC
Rules for participation 2/2
Eligibility conditions for participation
• RIA and IA: at least 3 legal entities established in 3 different EU
Member States and/or Associated Countries
The entities must be independent from each other!!!
• CSA: One single legal entity established in a EU Member State or
Associated Country
However, the size of the consortium can vary depending on the strategy
of your proposal
Eligibility for funding
Legal entities from all over the world can participate in H2020 and BBI JU calls, but …
• Automatically eligible for funding:
o EU and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries
o Countries listed in Annex A of the Horizon 2020 Work Programmes
• NOT automatically eligible for funding:
o Third countries not listed in Annex A (Industrialised countries and emerging economies)

Consortium own contribution
The consortium own contribution in BBI JU projects consists of:
• In-kind contributions
The eligible costs minus the requested BBI JU funding
When large industry is not funded: 100% of its contribution is in kind (this ensures industry commitment)
