Professional automotive moDeling, 18–CreDit DiPloma

Download the application at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/pam Space is limited in this program.

In our newly updated program you will learn the art of automotive modeling from professionals in the industry in one year. Students will learn how to translate design concepts into three-dimensional models using traditional clay materials and 3-D design software.

This program will teach you one of the most revered skills in the automotive industry. Coursework in hand modeling and Alias will allow you to fully understand how the two approaches integrate within the industry, and provide a diversified experience not available elsewhere.

Students applying to the diploma program must have skills in any of the following areas: auto body repair, drafting, artistic drawing, mechanical drawing, mechanics, model building, model making, 3-D design software, artistic painting, sculpting, ceramics or woodworking. A limited number of spaces are available each fall semester.

This 18-credit program begins each fall and is designed to be completed in three consecutive semesters of part-time evening and weekend study. Students will complete two classes a semester for three semesters (one clay sculpting and one Alias each semester). The diploma earned represents successful completion of all courses within the program, however is not comparable to a full four-year undergraduate degree. Credits earned may be transferable to an undergraduate program of study, at the discretion of the institution through which a student is seeking degree completion. The 18-credit program now meets the eligibility requirements for federal financial aid.

Drawing elevations Interior elevation drawings are a designer’s key tool for communicating different ways in which a space can work to a client. Elevations are made in reduced size with all the vital parts still in correct proportional relationship. Students will learn to hand draw the view of a room that shows one face (front, side or rear) of its subject projected onto a vertical plane. Under instructor’s guidance, students will utilize primary tools of planning such as a scale plan, a scale ruler, pencils, drafting markers and their creative imagination to create a set of hand drawn interior elevations.

Certificate Program guidelines Courses related to CCS’s Certificate programs are noncredit.Students must apply and be accepted into the certificate program before enrolling in any of the certificate-level courses. Certificate students are expected to attend classes, complete in-class assignments and take exams. A grade of C or better is required for certificate credit. You can change the status of your noncredit course to certificate level if your application into the program has been accepted, and if you request the change prior to the second class meeting.

To satisfy prerequisite requirements, courses must be taken in sequential order. Not all classes in the certificate programs will be offered each semester, as some courses are run on a rotational basis. Students must complete a certificate program within three years.

Students who do not have art or design experience are required to take one or more prerequisite courses to help them succeed in their program of choice. Individual needs can be discussed with the Assistant Director of Continuing Education.

Credits from other institutions are not accepted for transfer into CCS’s certificate programs. If a student has taken the equivalent of a required course at either CCS or another institution, approval to substitute a more challenging course may be obtained from the Director of Continuing Education. Find out more in the Certificate Program Offerings on page 3.

Applications are available online at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/ce or through the Office of Continuing Education at 313.664.7691.

Diploma Program guidelines Courses related to CCS’s Diploma programs are credit bearing. Students must apply and be accepted into a diploma program before enrolling in diploma-level courses. To satisfy prerequisite requirements, courses must be taken in sequential order. Not all classes in the diploma programs will be offered each semester, as some courses are run on a rotational basis. Students must complete a diploma program within three years. Diploma Program Offerings can be found on page 5.

Credits from other institutions are not accepted for transfer into CCS’s diploma programs. If a student has taken the equivalent of a required course at either CCS or another institution, approval to substitute a more challenging course may be obtained from the Director of Continuing Education.

Completion of a diploma does not signify completion of a CCS degree, however courses completed successfully could apply to an undergraduate level course of study. To find out if your diploma-related coursework can be applied to the required coursework of an undergraduate degree, you must inquire through the Office of Registration at the school you are planning to attend. CCS can not make these determinations for your school of choice.

Each course in the diploma programs is worth 3.0 College credits. Payment schedules and fees associated with the program follow the undergraduate program policies listed in the CCS Course Schedule available at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu.

Applications are available online at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/ce or through the Office of Continuing Education at 313.664.7691.

tuition and feesNoncredit courses and Young Artist classesTuition and material fees are specified for each course. Students must pay all tuition and fees for noncredit-bearing courses in full at the time of registration.

Credit courses Payment schedules and fees associated with the program follow the undergraduate program policies listed in the CCS Course Schedule available at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu. Please review these policies carefully as they do vary significantly from CE Department policies.

Course Changes and CancellationsCCS retains the right to make changes to or cancel any course it offers. Classes may be cancelled on, or before, the first scheduled class meeting day if enrollment is insufficient. If a class is cancelled, you may request a transfer to another class; otherwise, you will automatically receive a full refund of tuition and fees for the class that was cancelled. Refunds take approximately 15 business days.

CCS reserves the right to withdraw or modify courses, instructors and schedules; to revise tuition and fee structures; and to amend College policies for the efficient operation of the College without prior notice.

On occasion, an individual class may need to be cancelled due to illness, emergency or other unforeseen circumstance. In such a case, the instructor will notify each student enrolled in the class of the cancellation. CCS will announce inclement weather cancellations of classes on the CCS campus through the news media. Students attending off-site classes should contact the respective institutions for information on weather-related closings. For off-site details, see page 30.

Classroom assignmentsStudents will be mailed a registration confirmation that will indicate course room assignment and instructor whenever possible. Classroom location lists will also be posted on main building doors during the first two weeks of class.

student advisingCE students who wish to speak with an advisor about entering one of our Professional Development or Precollege programs can call 313.664.7691. Students who have concerns about courses in which they are enrolled are encouraged to contact the Continuing Education Office to discuss their concerns.

Parental ConsentA parent or legal guardian of any student age 18 or under, who is enrolled in any course taught using nude models, must sign and submit a Parental Consent Form to the CE office at the time of the student’s registration. Students who do not have the signed form on file prior to the first day of class will not be allowed to attend class until one is submitted. Questions regarding this policy can be directed to 313.664.7691.

student Withdrawals and refundsNoncredit Course and Young Artist Class RefundsStudents who do not wish to remain in a course for which they have registered must call the Continuing Education office at 313.664.7691 to formally withdraw from the course. Students who withdraw from a noncredit course or Young Artist class before the second class session will be granted a 100% tuition refund; no refund is granted after the start of the second class session. (Note: Students who withdraw from a CE course scheduled for shorter than 13 contact hours will not be granted a refund after the course has started.) Not attending a class does not constitute an official withdrawal from the course. No refunds will be granted after the terms of the refund policy.

Credit-Bearing CoursesThe refund of tuition for credit-bearing courses is detailed in the undergraduate course catalog available at www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu. Students needing to withdraw from a credit-bearing course should notify the CE office as soon as possible, as related policies are distinctly different from CE’s standard noncredit course refund policy (detailed above). Contact the CE Office 313.664.7691.
