Central School Promotes Red Ribbon WeekMembers of Snowflake will visit advisories to promote drug-free themes each day. All students will receive a “Proud to be Drug Free” bracelet. For each grade, the advisory with the most participation at the end of the week will win bragging rights and a special party.

Popular television personality Steve Irwin died on September 4th, in Queensland, Australia. He was filming off the Great Barrier Reef for a new documentary The Ocean’s Deadliest . While filming, a stingray stung him through the heart. Attempts were made to medivac Irwin to the closest city, Cairns, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Irwin was famous for his television show, The Crocodile Hunter, which has aired since 1996 on the Animal Planet. About 350 episodes have aired. His famous phrase on the show is “Crikey!”.

Several permanent memorials have already been announced for Irwin, including “The Crikey Fund” which aids in the preservation of wildlife protection, education, and conservation.

U.S. Sees Iraqis Taking Over Security in 12 to 18 MonthsClint M.

General George Casey of Iraq has stated, “We are about 75 percent of the way

through as three-step process in building those (Iraqi) forces. It is going to take

another 12 to 18 months or so till I believe the Iraqi security forces are completely

capable of taking over responsibility for their own security that's still coupled with

some level of support from us,” He believes that we are almost done in Iraq (“about

75 percent of the way through”) and it will take only another 12 to 18 months before

Iraq can support and protect themselves. U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad

says that by the end of the year Iraq will have started a timeline on their events the

last few years. He also declared that in order to succeed in Iraq we will need to

double our efforts and forces over seas. Khalilzad also said that the anti-American

Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, has agreed to U.S. demands of a timeline and believes

it might stop the violence.

The Lost Boys of Sudan find a home in ChicagoRachel C.

In the 1980’s many southern Sudan tribes have been attacked by Communists who had overthrown the government. These Communists brought death and hardships to many Sudanese people because of religious, ethnic and regional conflicts. When the Communists attacked the villages, they used guns and tanks. They would kill as many as possible, mostly men and boys, they would take the girls and women as slaves or to use for their own amusement.

Many of the boys tried to escape. Those that did, had to travel far off distances in search of refugee camps. The boys that survived the journey were called the Lost Boys of Sudan. The name may sound familiar from a Disney movie classic, Peter Pan. In the movie, in Never Land, there was a group of boys who hadn’t any parents and they were named the Lost Boys. In Sudan, the boys that escaped, left behind their family and parents, who most likely would’ve been killed by the Communists, and they received a similar name: Neverland’s Lost Boys.

To get to the refugee camps, the Lost Boys had to travel miles by themselves. The eldest of the groups were 10-12 years old and they took care of the younger boys. They traveled 700-1,000 miles and along the way many starved, became dehydrated, or were attacked by wild animals. It was a difficult journey, but over 10,000 boys survived. Many of them lived in the refugee camps until 2001. The U.S. has allowed 4,000 boys to come and live in America so they can live a better life. Now 120 Lost Boys (of Sudan) have been resettled here in Chicago.

The next day, the student was walking alone in the hallway, when he tripped and put

his hand on the wall. He tried to get his hand off the wall, but noticed that it

stuck there. He put his other hand on the wall and started to climb up it. He then

realized he had Super Powers. It was then what he knew what he had to do, he

had to save the school from the evil spider roaming the dark hallways. He started

searching the hallways and he couldn’t find the spider. Then, he heard a

scream”aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.” He rushed after toward the direction of the

scream. It was his beloved crush, Katinka. He rushed after the spider and told it

to go away. The spider got scared and ran away and was never seen again. So, that

is how the student became the best hero ever, Arachnid Kid!!!!!!

On Friday, the thirteenth

of October, one of our

students was walking down

the hallway when a spider

as big as a car came out of

nowhere and bit him. Of

course this happened

because it was on, Friday

the thirteenth. The

student got sent to the

nurse’s office because he

wasn’t feeling well from

the spider bite.

The Rainbow CrystalBy: Maddie D.

In this article, I will explain about the Rainbow Crystal. This crystal is extremely powerful because it contains all elements such as wind, air, water, earth, fire, lightning, dark, and light. If the crystal was to fall in the wrong hands, then the whole earth could be destroyed. Crystal will do anything to stop The Joker from destroying the galaxy, and with her friends May, Jacob, and Sarah they can stop him. Crystal’s grandmother, Caroline, knows how to use the crystal and if the crystal is used too much, your spirit can be taken away. The spirit would be kept in a sacred spirit box. In my next article, I will tell the first chapter of The Violet Girl.

The band Cute Is What We Aim For was formed in January 2005. The members are Shaant Hacikyan, Jeff Czum, Tom Falcone, and Fred Cimato. They originated in Buffalo, New York and created demos by Fueled By Ramen. Their new album, The Same Old Blood Rush, came out in June.

The Violet GirlBy: Maddie D.

Chapter 1: The Beginning

It is the first day of school and Crystal is very excited to start high school. Her friends May, Jacob, and Sarah are happy to be able have fun with her.

Crystal said, “I hope that this year will be my best and I can’t wait to go to college. Still, I feel kind of weird, dizzy, but I’ll be fine.”

She went to her first class, then all of sudden she fell on the stairs and everyone was worried about her. Crystal’s skin was starting to change color and her body was starting to expand.

May yelled, “Someone, please help my friend! She needs help! Hang on Crystal everything is going to be okay.”

But in her body was the work of a bad force. One of the teachers called her parents and her brother Connor took her to the hospital. Crystal and her parents were with Dr. Wolfe and he said that it was probably just a cold. He prescribed Crystal with some medications.

When Crystal was going outside she fainted again. Her mom and dad were very confused and wondered what was happening to their child.

Dr. Wolfe said, “Bring her back in, I have a feeling that it is more than just a cold.”Her parents brought her back in the hospital. Connor was wondering if she was just

faking and from the look of Crystal’s eyes, she wasn’t faking it.Crystal’s dad, Dash, asked, “Is she going to be okay. What is wrong with her doctor?”Dr. Wolfe replied, “I think your daughter has BB Syndrome.”Joan, Crystal’s mom, was worried that their daughter would die. The only time she has

heard BB Syndrome when Joan was 10 years old and her mother had BB Syndrome. Crystal’s grandmother, Caroline was able to manage the disease and now Caroline is 66 years old.

Crystal was starting to look terrible by seconds and the only way to save her was to give her a portable breathing machine. After a few minutes, she started to wake up and regain control.

“Hi mom, dad, Connor, what happened to me and were is my stuff from school?”Connor replied, “When I came to pick you up from school, you fainted. I thought you

wanted to fake so you wouldn’t have to go to school, but I was wrong.Her parents asked the doctor, “What are going to do now, since Crystal has this disease?” With this disease, Crystal will be limited how much she can go outside. But since Crystal loves to play sports, she will need to play sports inside.

“For now she will have to carry a portable breathing machine. If she starts to change color, tell her to take one breath from it.”

Joan wanted to do everything for her daughter, but she could not do it. From that moment, she knew that they had to see their grandmother, Caroline, to figure out this medical dilemma.

Dash immediately grabbed out his cell phone and called Caroline. She said that it would be nice to help their child with a disease.

It took about 5 hours to get to Caroline’s house. Finally, they got there and now it was a race to see if Crystal would die shortly or live a for a certain amount of time.

“Hi Crystal, Connor, Dash, Joan, how are you today?”They said nothing to her, their faces were filled with worry and concern.“Well, I know why this is happening to only you Crystal....”

In the next the chapter of the the story you will find out why Crystal has BB Syndrome.

Laura Bennett: She did her usual cocktail party dresses and gowns. They were ok, definitely not my favorite, but she did a great job on them. Here are my favorites:

On Wednesday The Final Four (Uli Herzner, Michael Knight, Jeffrey Sebelia and Laura Bennett) had their final runway show at Olympus Fashion Week at Bryant Park.

Uli Herzner: Uli did her usual designs also (flowy, big prints) but she also did some different things too! I though Uli should have won! Here are some favorites:

Michael Knight: Although he was the fan favorite this season, Many people were unimpressed by his designs at Bryant Park. He did well earlier in the season but wasn’t doing too well in the last few episodes.

Jeffrey Sebelia: My favorite designer this season! I loved most of his designs this season, and the final runway show was really good as well. Here are my favorites:

My mother says that it a sign that I’m in love, but I don’t believe her. I think that it’s just another phase of puberty. But I don’t know what to think. I was just excited to see Emma again.

At breakfast, I was always looking up to see where Emma was, but I couldn’t find her. I was eager to get to talk with Emma. There were so many things that I wanted to talk to her about.

“Dear, what are you doing,” asked my mother.“I’m… I’m, uh…stretching my legs?”“So, what do you want to talk about?” she asked.“I met a new friend.”“Who?”“His name is Jason Manns.”“Is he in second class?”“No, he’s in third.” She looked up at me, then looked back down, continuing eating.“You shouldn’t be talking to him then.”“But mom, we share some similarities. Like he’s 14 too, and he has blue eye’s, and more.”“You still can’t talk to him.”“What don’t you understand that we ARE friends. There’s nothing you can do to stop me.” I

arose and walked out. I looked at my watch. It was 10:03.“Oh man, I’m going to be late.” And I hurried out of the dining room towards the Promenade Deck

(below). Emma was waiting for me by the pillar on the boat deck. I told her that I lost track of time, so I was late.

“Well, as you know, I’m John Clark, and I’m 14 years old, and I’m 5‘ 6’’.”“I’m the same age, and same height.” Emma was amazed.“Weird. It’s like humanity knew we would meet.”“Very strange.”“So…how long has Frank been working for your dad?”“Ever since my mother died, which was when I was 4 years old.”“Now, you said that your father doesn’t love you. Is that true?”“Yes. He sent me to a boarding school when I was 5 years old, just so he can be away from me. 9

years of my life, gone.”“It sounds like he really doesn’t like you.”“Yes. And since Frank been all around me, I haven’t had the chance to experience the things I

want to. Like how to get my necklace on, or how to tie my shoe, or even open a drawer.”“I have experienced many things, but I want to experience what it’s like having all the sounds in

a room to die out, when everyone is talking and you can’t hear them, or what’s it’s like to have my first kiss, or even what’s it’s like to be, well, in love.”

“You’ve never had your first kiss?”“Nope.”“Doesn’t seem like it. You are really cute. And I don’t understand why the girls aren’t all over

you.”“Well, you are funny, and you are nice.”

“Who shouldn’t?”And for the next week I learned more and more things about Emma. She hasn’t experienced a lot

of things like me. And it was a lot of fun hanging out with her. She was even able to sneak me into her stateroom. It’s all true. Their stateroom is two stories high, and it’s on the bow, and they have three really big private bathrooms, with elevator access and a small library, plus three big bedrooms. It was amazing.

* * *At this point in my story, Clara interrupted. And so did the children and the captain.“I can’t believe that she was able to buy that suite,” said Clara.“She must’ve been rich,” said Michelle.“What did her father own?” asked Captain Alexander.“Her father owned a oil company down in Texas, and he had a company making cars in Philadelphia

and England,” I explained.“No wonder I keep on hearing about the Brownly Automobile Company,” said Jason.“Who is Jason? Why is our child named Jason? Why-““Clara!” Clara began to calm down. “These questions you have will be answered later in the story.

Now as I was saying, it was the night before New Years Eve, and the first course was taken away, and the next course was coming. My mother and I had nothing to talk about, until finally, at the end of the third course, I asked,

Can I have a pen and a piece of paper?”“Why?” asked the waiter.“I need to write something down.”“You must be a very forgetful boy. I shall have what you need in a minute.” Then the waiter

walked away.As the fourth and final course came, the waiter gave me what I needed. I quickly wrote down:Emma-

If you don’t mind, I would like for you to be my date tomorrow night for New Years. If you can respond when you get this letter, I will be a very happy gentleman. Meet me outside in the center of the Grand Staircase for your answer.

Then I told the waiter to take it to Miss Emily Brownly at Table 22. He immediately said yes because he knew what I wrote down. I folded it once and handed it to the waiter. He carried it off to Table 22 and handed it to Emma. For a second she read the letter and I felt that my heart had skipped a couple beats. Emma looked up and I hurried out.

The Grand Staircase had two elevators and went up 5 decks for passengers and I looked up. I was in the center of the gleaming dome above me.

“John,” said a voice. I turned around and there was Emma. “I…I read your note, and…although it breaks all the rules for first class, I…I would be happy to assist you on New Years.”

“Really?”“I would be happy to.”“Even thought you might get into trouble by your father?”“I really…really don’t care.”“I’ll tell you, it’ll be the greatest night of your life, Emma. It’ll be…very unexpected.”

House here, as you know likes to get beat up. Oh yeah, by the way, he has to leave right now because he has a “meeting” with a kid on the playground at 3:00. C.B.G. Omic Ook Uy, likes to watch Android’s Dungeon, so he is also leaving right now for the fan convention. What a geek! So I guess that leaves only me here -M. Oe. Most of you probably know that I am the coolest guy in Springfield. I also am the best player on the Springfield Baseball Team. THE FIELD MUSEUM

I went to the field museum it is one of my favorite museums. I saw dinosaurs at the field museum I saw many bones of animals. Right now they have a king-tut exhibit. He was a boy king. they have an exhibit about mammals of asia. There is also a nature walk to see. There is also an exhibit about north american birds. You can also learn messages from the wilderness, and discover how all living things are linked in nature. Plants of the world is an exhibit where there is world famous plants. you can also learn about reptiles and amphibians and sea mammals . There is also underground adventures, where you can find out how life underground is.
