Editorial Hello all Club Members,
The AGM approaches, and there are a few positions to be filled on
the Committee. If you haven’t taken an office with the Club then now
would be a good time to do so. The Club is running very smoothly,
there is not a lot of hard work involved, and you get the satisfaction of
helping to run what is a very lively body.
We have a number of stalwarts who put their names up for jobs and
their work is very much appreciated, but we don’t want the Club to be
accused of being run by a select group. This creates disharmony.
There are many members who don’t regularly attend events or
meetings and we would like to see more of you.
On pages 15 to 17 you will see the final draft of the new club
Constitution, which will be placed in the Chevroletter again next
month, before we vote to accept it at the August meeting. It has a few
additions from the previous one but is mostly similar.
The annual CMC Quiz night is on Friday July 8 at the Cannington
Centre. We have one table booked, so places will be limited. Speak
to Either Peter or me to confirm your attendance. If we get enough
starters we can book another table.
Keep on Chevying,
Hugh.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello Chev Enthusiasts.
The AGM is here and its time to put your hand up for the jobs you want to do this year. It takes people to make the club run. All positions will become vacant except for the Secretary & Treasurer as they have another year left on their sentence.
Last month a small group cruised to Gingin for the annual English car day. A very large display greeted us of all cars Pommy as well as other sights around the place. On the lake was a selection of model boats with a few real and not so real ducks swimming amongst a shark.
This month is the President’s run. It will be a shorter run allowing the older cars to participate. I will be in my ‘28 Chev providing the weather holds off. Forecast says it will be a fine day.
Hope to see you all on this month’s run. Neil.
Notice to members
Please return all Perpetual trophies to the club so we can
present them to their new owners at the AGM.

COMING EVENTS
June 12: President’s Run and AGM. See below.
July 8: CMC Quiz Night, Cannington Exhibition Centre, 7.30pm.
July 10: Christmas in July lunch at the Boab Café, 107 Dundas
Road, High Wycombe.
Aug 14: Event and Meeting.
Nov 20: GM Owners’ Day at Bassendean Oval.
MAY EVENT
We cruised from Ginger’s Road House in the Upper Swan area and
turned on to the Brand Hwy at Muchea*. Arriving at Gingin the num-
ber of cars and visitors was quite spectacular. Public parking for our
Chevies was a few minutes walk back to the middle of town, where
every spare piece of land was taken up with a large number and
range of all things British. Every marque you could think of was there,
and not just a few examples. There were more Rollers and Jags
there than at a pox doctors’ convention. More humble makes such as
Austin, Vauxhall, Vanguard, Morris and so on were present, with a
big showing of sporty numbers such as E Type and XK Jags, MG
and Austin Healey. A big display of Morris Minis and their offshoot,
the Mini Moke, one with a tandem rear end. Very odd!
JUNE EVENT
The President’s Run. Meet at McDonald's Leach Hwy Myaree at 9.00 for a 9.30 start. The
run will focus around the Fremantle area and then down the coast to
Ridley’s for our AGM at 3.00. Lunch will be at a venue where you can
buy lunch and a park next door for a picnic.
*Muchea. A little hamlet on Brand Hwy, pronounced ‘Mewshay’. One
visitor though it was ‘Muchere’, and commented, ‘Well, there ain’t
much ‘ere!’

At Gingin: a 1935 Riley Sprite racer, a lineup of Lotuses, a multiplicity of Minis, and over the page, variations of Vauxhalls, Viva, Victor and Velox from the 50s and 60s. The ute in the centre is a 1956 model. By 1957 they had worked out how to fit wind-up windows.

The story of the old Chev truck
I got the Chev from Ray Tillbrook approximately 15 years ago. I bought a 1928 model from him and he gave me this one for parts. Ray told me he picked it up near Goomalling. It was under a lean-to with a tree growing in front of it, so he had to drag it sideways to get it out. He was told it had been there for 40 odd years, and by that time it had probably done 40 odd years work. It ended up at my brother Colin’s place in Esperance. When we went there a while back I said it was complete so it should run. I won't repeat what Colin said. We put a 12 volt battery on the starter (6 volt) and cranked it over, but things moved slowly for a while. By the end of the day we had it idling like a dream. Colin rang Ray on his mobile so he could hear it and when he walked away to talk to him Ray said the timing was out as it was banging too hard. So far the only thing we replaced is the fan belt and starter motor (12 volts is a bit hard on them). Our sister-in-law Kenlee took about 17minutes of video of the start up which I have now reduced to 7 minutes. We don't intend to restore it as we have a 1928 model which was bought by our Grandad brand new. It needs a lot of work. Morris Danks. They don’t make ‘em like they used to. Ed.
