A ninth grader at Mount Kenya Academy, Elizabeth is the recipient of a scholarship provided by First Presbyterian Church. First Pres. and Mount Kenya Academy have shared in ministry for twenty years, a benchmark we celebrated on World Communion Sunday just a few weeks ago. When Elizabeth found out that she qualified for admission to the high school, she says that she had no hope. Her parents are day laborers and they could never afford to send her to the school. She wrote to us recently saying, “I remember receiving letters from different schools saying that I qualified for admission but I just kept throwing them away because there was nothing I could have done about it. My father used to cry because he felt like he had failed me but Mount Kenya Academy Senior School wiped all my tears when they gave me a scholarship. If it were not for the scholarship, I could not be where I am right now. On behalf of my family and my community and my country, I would like to say thank you for your great kindness.” This faithful, courageous and gifted young woman had a simple dream of attending high school so that, in her own words, “she will be able to help her parents and her community.” Elizabeth is an example of LIVING GRATITUDE. She is stewarding the opportunity God has given her through the generosity of our congregation. She is living her gratitude by pursuing an education that will not only benefit her, but also benefit her family and her larger community and maybe even the world. This is just one example where our financial generosity makes a difference in people’s lives. Whether it is supporting a ninth grader in Kenya so that she may pursue her dream of high school or if it is walking with ninth graders here in Atlanta through their confirmation year or if it is befriending the poor so that they may be equipped to move from homelessness to independence or if it is cultivating a dynamic worshipping community that thousands of people joyfully call home, your financial generosity makes a difference…it changes lives! If you haven’t already made a pledge for ministry year 2016, I invite you to prayerfully consider it. Live out your gratitude by committing to steward those financial resources of which God has put you in charge. Be generous…demonstrate a LIVING GRATITUDE. As we continue on in our LIVING GRATITUDE annual campaign, I want to introduce you to a young woman named Elizabeth. On behalf of my family and my community and my country, I would like to say thank you for your great kindness.”

This faithful, courageous and gifted young woman had a simple dream of attending high school so that, in her own words, “she will be able to help her parents and her community.” Elizabeth is an example of LIVING GRATITUDE.

As we approach the 25th year since its last renovation, our exqui-site Sanctuary organ needs significant re-newal to ensure that

its 6097 pipes continue to provide beautiful music. Specifically, the organ’s thousands of leather patch-es need to be replaced, the wiring connecting organ console and pipes must be updated, the control sys-tem that allows the organist to choose the instru-ment’s sound must be replaced, and the individual sounds of our organ need to be balanced. After much research by an Organ Renovation Task Force and consideration of multiple bids, First Presbyte-rian has engaged German organ builder Orgelbau Klais Bonn to complete these renovations. The work will begin in January 2017 and will take several months to complete, but with the exception of very few Sundays, we will use the Chancel organ or the Gallery organ in worship. The total cost of the proj-ect is approximately $1.3 million and we hope to raise $1.65 million in order to complete the needed work and fund a maintenance reserve specifically for the organ. Please consider supporting the reno-vation of this wonderful asset of First Presbyterian.

Dear Friends of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta,

We are honored and humbled to chair this year’s Annual Giv-ing campaign. Our theme is “living Gratitude.” leading the campaign gives us a chance to express our personal gratitude for this church and the impact its many ministries have had on our lives. First Presbyterian has given us close friendships and fellowship, worship, mission opportunities, Bible study and youth programs. We know each person in this congrega-tion has also been impacted by Christ’s work here, and we hope you will share your experiences and feelings of appre-ciation for this church.

The 2015 campaign will begin on October 25, 2015 and will last for four weeks. As you prayerfully consider your finan-cial commitment to the church, you may draw inspiration from the sermons for those weeks: “Reflecting on God’s Blessings,” “Being Grateful in Suffering,” “humility,” and “Generosity.” You will also hear the stories of members of this congregation who are answering the call to live out their gratitude.

Each year in our house we prayerfully and thoughtfully con-sider our financial commitment to the church. This is a very personal decision for us, as it is for most people. We invite you to reflect on your call to live your expression of gratitude

and to prayerfully consider your financial commitment to this congregation and the many places and people we serve.

In addition to your pledge for the Annual Giving campaign, you can also make a commitment to the Organ Renewal Campaign. Please consider your gift and make your pledge on or before November 15, 2015, the last day of our official campaign.

This is an extremely generous congregation, and we are con-fident that our collective gifts will reflect our gratitude and support the work to which we are called. We welcome any op-portunity to hear your stories of gratitude and how First Pres-byterian Church has impacted you. We are also available to answer any campaign questions you may have. Please email us at [email protected].

We are excited to see how the life and ministry of this church continue to unfold. Please help to build on our strong tradi-tion by making your pledge.

Blessings,

carla and Brant Ferrell
