Cem and his family lived in a village only accessed by sea close to Antalya. It was believed that those who entered the “Forest of the Lost” that was behind the village would never come out. The villagers called Cem’s grandfather Sami Bey “Grandpa Secret” but no one knew what his secret was. Cem’s aunt Sevgi who never stayed much in the village traveling from one city to city and country to country brought Cem a puppy from one of her trips. The cute stranger was a Siberian husky. Negatively influenced by the warm Mediterranean climate, Afacan began to hide in the shade as time went by…

One day, a writer moves into a historical Bosphorus mansion in whose garden children play. The whole neighborhood is curious to know how this writer who never goes out lives: How can a writer be so rich? How many servants work in the house? Why doesn’t he stop by the barber or the coffee house of the neighborhood? The only one who dares to discover the mansion is young Doğaç. He will begin to discover the mysteries of both the writer and of being a writer as he climbs the stairs of the mansion…

As far as Arda is concerned the sun can rise at night. Why can’t India be called Sindia? Potions made with spices can aid the dinosaurs on the moon. Someday, some people may steal the moon and not bring it back. Why is their mother who is a teacher teach other children rather than teaching them?.. There is no end either to Arda’s imagination, nor his questions! But if his sister Arya weren’t around, there would be no joy in asking these questions or trying to find answers! What about Arya? Is it easy to find answers to all these questions or to be Arda’s sister?..

Following her well-loved novel When Moon Meets Sea for young adults, Karin Karakaşlı who wrote for children for the first time, now acts as a witness to the warm conversation between two siblings. Arya who is in second grade tries to answer the innumerable questions of her brother who is in kindergarten and has an unlimited imagination, and to spare time to play with him.

‹rem Uşar, born in 1975, graduated from the Radio, Television, Cinema Department of Marmara University and worked as a reporter, editor and copy writer. In 2010, she was invited by PEN to attend a writer’s workshop where she wrote her first children’s fiction The Light That Moved From the Lighthouse.

The naughty boy full of bruises lived in the lighthouse on the cliff with his family. His best friends were Arpacık, his mole, and Zilli, his snake. His father maintained the family tradition and lit the light of the lighthouse at the same time every night to show ships their way. The light was what the young boy liked best. But one day, the postman brought a letter that upset the whole family’s life. The naughty boy didn’t know what to tell the light.

Uşar who narrates nature and people after in-depth observation based her first children’s book on a lighthouse. The lighthouse, one of the best known and most likeable symbols of cultural heritage, is the centre of the story reminding of the values lost with industrial developments. The friendship established between a young boy whose best friends are animals and who lives in close contact with nature and the light of the lighthouse in his “home” is narrated in epic style. The book especially constructed around the Sivrice Lighthouse located on the Aegean shore near Assos is animated with illustrations by Huban Korman.

A routine vaccination day turns into an adventure that could only take place in Antiquity. As the authority of the lion, the king of the forest, gradually decreases, unemployment, poverty and corruption rapidly increase. The animals complain about the lion’s cruel administration and want to stop the state of affairs. It is not easy for all of the animals who think differently to unite against the tyrant king...

In her award-winning book, Pakize Özcan invites children into the universe of animals. This short story that draws attention to the ruler-ruled dilemma in the modern world and the frequently used method of suppression through tyranny via the animals living in the forest includes serious social criticism. The book calls attention to the fact that disagreement of opinions have to be set aside and to the necessity to unite over a common denominator to annihilate the oppressive regime of the sovereign power and gain back freedom.

The heat, smell of Çukurova emanates from the childhood stories of a master! 6 stories in the book are: Circumcision Ceremony of the Year, Love in Short Pants, Ayçelen, Yılankalesi, I Stumbled This Morning, Rapidly Flowing Water, Preparation For The Holiday.

This time, poet Nihat Ziyalan, a master of contemporary Turkish literature who also writes novels and stories for children and young adults, relates sequences from his childhood with amusing stories. Ziyalan presents the life of a child growing up in rural Adana in the frightening and insecure atmosphere of World War II from his own point of view using his own words. His humoristic style prevails while reflecting the anxiety and stress of the war from the view point of adults. The book introduces new literary flavors to children with its use of the local language that gains warmth of narration with special words and accents.

Nihat Ziyalan, born in 1936, adopted narrative poetry and has published a number of poetry books, two novels and

story books. Ziyalan who won the 2009 1st Çukurova Award continues to write in literary magazines, lives in Sydney where

Living in a small town by the Marmara Sea with her family Ayça's biggest dream is to become a tourist one day. She admires all those tourists visiting their small town in summertime. Her feelings about her summertime friend Ege, who is living in Istanbul, also enhances her desire to learn English. Although getting admitted to a girls' boarding school in Istanbul makes her happy in the beginning, she later finds herself in a life different from the one she has been dreaming of. Luckily one day she receives great news from her dad...

Leyla Ruhan Okyay depicts different human conditions with a lucid and genuine use of language, and brings the imaginations of her characters and the realities of life together, while keeping her optimism alive. It is possible to find traces of Okyay’s life in her novel, in which the first person narrator, Ayça tells about her curiosity towards big city life and travelling. In addition to presenting friendships based on solidarity and different aspects of boarding school life, the novel depicts disappointments, first loves, sensations and regrets in other words the experiences one gains while growing up and running after dreams. The novel presents a childhood experience in a different era.

Leyla Ruhan Okyay, was born in 1952 in Kırklareli. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and has a master degree on the same subject. Her stories are published in several

anthology books and her story named “My Mother’s Language” is published in German Turkish literature anthology.

When he started prep class, the Erzurum Anatolian Lycee dormitory became his room and the refectory of the school replaced the warm kitchen of his house. He had passed the challenging exam but he had no idea that he would have to spend the nights and even some week-ends so far from his family on the bunk bed of a cold dormitory. He was totally unprepared for this. However, will the warmth of new friendships and the maturity brought by education be enough for an unready student in preparatory class?..

Tolga Gümüşay, born in 1972, graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Management and completed a post-graduate programme at Marmara University. Gümüşay’s first novel published by Günışığı Kitaplığı, Six Years Full Board is followed by two story books as well as novels for adults.
