Rector’s Forum in August

The end of summer, despite

returning to school and work

and bidding vacations “good-

bye,” brings excitement and

new possibilities to Holy

Apostles. As a church, as the

Body of Christ, faithfully we

strive to hear and respond to

the presence of the Holy

Spirit as we live into God’s

vision for ministry and mis-

sion. We are Jesus’ disciples

for today, for our community

and for those who long to

hear the good news of hope,

love and acceptance.

Mary Parmer, a nationally

known and highly regarded

facilitator will join us August

22nd & 23rd to lead us in the

Invite, Welcome and Connect

workshop. This is a model

for evangelism as we seek to

invite God’s people into the

community of Holy Apostles

and then find ways in which

they participate fully in the

mission and ministry of the

church.

Nick Sollog, our consultant

from Episcopal Church

Foundation, will join us in

September to begin our pro-

cess of discerning how God

is calling us to embrace the

future of mission and minis-

try at Holy Apostles. Specifi-

cally, Nick will guide our dis-

cussions regarding a new

Master Plan which will be

introduced while he is here.

Christian education will begin

for all ages. The importance

of our learning and studying

the Bible, prayer and our re-

sponsibilities as disciples can-

not be understated. Both chil-

dren and adults naturally

grow in deeper relationship

with our Lord through the

shared experience of Chris-

tian formation. Taking the

theme, “Finding Your

Voice,” the Rector’s Forum

will offer a variety of discus-

sions through which we will

grow in faithfulness to our

various callings as the people

of God.

This is a tremendously excit-

ing and invigorating time in

the life of Holy Apostles and

each one of us has an im-

portant role to play. All are

included and all are important

as we keep our hearts and

minds open to God’s voice

which speaks those very same

words heard at Jesus’ bap-

tism, “This is my beloved

with whom I am well

pleased.”

In late July, we welcomed

Cynthia McCarty as our new

Director of Youth Ministry.

McCarty was born and raised

in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a

lifelong Episcopalian, Cynthia

was involved in EYC, served

on the Diocesan Youth Com-

mission, and was the Dioce-

san representative for the

Province VII Youth Com-

mission. After earning a B.S.

in Health Sciences at the Uni-

versity of Arkansas at Little

Rock, Cynthia moved to

Memphis and worked at the

Aquatics Director at the Ol-

ive Branch Family YMCA.

In 2007, Cynthia was called

back to Little Rock and

served as the Director of

Youth and Young Adult min-

istries at St. Margaret’s Epis-

copal Church. During this

time, she earned a Masters in

Education in Middle Child-

hood Education. Cynthia has

worked the past 4 years as a

middle school teacher for

Shelby County School.

Cynthia is married to Chris

and has two sons, Alex (7),

and Sam (21 months). They

live in Germantown and have

called Holy Apostles their

church home for the last cou-

ple of years.

As the youth director, Cyn-

thia wants to empower and

equip the youth of the church

with the resources they need

to build onto their Journey of

Faith. She wants to take her

experience as a youth director

and as a teacher, and create a

trusting, fun EYC that also

builds the church community

that is already established

here at Holy Apostles. Cyn-

thia is very proud and excited

to be called to serve Holy

Apostles.

Congratulation to the following Children’s Chapel Graduates:

Over the past few years, these young parishioners have been receiving a weekly child-friendly

that these kids are now old enough to participate in "big" church and hear the priest's sermon

every week.

All children who are Kindergarten age and younger are invited to attend Children's Chapel dur-
