two of our GREAT GUYS...both with a Musical bent…

ALEXANDER BRANDON FLORES is one such great guy, this 15 year old is a Sophomore at CV High. Alexander enjoys his Algebra class in school and attending our parish Youth Group on Tuesday nights. Alex, the younger of the two Flores boys, (brother, Christopher, was confirmed here in 2010) also shares his home with 2 dogs, a colony of chickens, 8 rabbits, cows, goats and sheep … as you might have guessed, Alexander lives in the canyon. This fact may also influence his taste in music; Alex likes “Country”! He enjoys playing the guitar and singing, especially Brad Paisley tunes. Alexander also likes to watch the Simpsons on TV and cheer for the San Francisco 49ers. When asked about his “best friend” Alex did not hesitate to tell us about Ethan Gatchali-an, as they have, “been friends since elementary school and have much in common”. ETHAN NOWELL GATCHALIAN is that best friend mentioned above. Ethan, at 15, (born one month to the day after Alexan-der) is also a Castro Valley High School Sophomore where he enjoys Modern World History. Ethan, an only child, is also a fan of our Youth Group and of listening to music. Ethan, is a lover of Sushi on his plate, Restaurant Impossible on TV, the Golden State Warriors on the court and the Philippines as a vacation destination. When it comes to music, his choice is a bit different than that of Alexander, Ethan favors Electronic Dance Music and this boy can really “Urban Dance” (as we witnessed at the Youth Rally last month). When asked about his “best friend”, you guessed it, Ethan listed Alexander Flores “because we are both humble and love music.”

So, Best Buddies, “What about yourself are you Most Proud?” Alexander: “I am a polite person” / Ethan: “I am very friendly”

We are very lucky to have these two best friends and GREAT GUYS in our program!

Thank you for advertising in our bulletin. We appreciate your support!

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#55. No to the new idolatry of money One cause of this situation is found in our relationship with money, since we calmly accept its dominion over ourselves and our societies. The current financial crisis can make us overlook the fact that it originated in a pro-found human crisis: the denial of the primacy of the hu-man person! We have created new idols. The worship of the ancient golden calf (cf. Ex 32:1-35) has returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose. The worldwide crisis affecting finance and the economy lays bare their imbalances and, above all, their lack of real concern for human beings; man is reduced to one of his needs alone: consumption. Fr. Terry’s Remarks— Some of us will remember the old song: 'Love makes the world go round.' Today, you and me know well, that it is largely Money, bags and bags of it. When we read the Scriptures and we see the people of Israel worshiping the Golden Calf, we smile at their simplicity, poor things! But how many of us today wor-ship money and it is not even on the gold standard? We have become, even those of us who haven't got it, so en-amored by money that it blinds us. We are almost unable to see when we are hurting ourselves much less the mil-lions of people who are denied the basics of life. The stock exchange and the money markets control not only our economic lives, but in order to protect them-selves they make sure they inform and influence our way of thinking and believing. Witness the conflict in our Church at this time. The message of Jesus is not that we should not prudently manage our affairs which we should, but that God and his people, every single person should be treasured before our money and convenience. As Pope Francis reminds us, we are unwittingly consuming our brothers and sisters.
