Dear Parishioners, I am happy to announce a new ministry added to our parish community. This ministry is not new to the Diocese and has been around for a long time. It is the first time a Cursillo Ministry has been formed in our parish. The group has chosen July 10th as the date which we will recognize and bless them at the 11:00a.m. Mass. They will meet once a month to discuss and plan their outreach in the community and Diocese. Yours in Christ, Fr. Mario L. Borges

Sixty Plus or Minus Club Please join us in the Hall following the 9:30a.m. Mass on Friday, July 1st. Our hosts will be Kathy & Tony Rocha and Diane & Rod Johnston. Please sign up today if you plan to attend as the hosts need to have a count of at-tendees. Bingo will be played after the meeting.

Please Note The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, July 4th in observance of

the Independence Day holiday.

Note: Mass on Friday, July 1st will be at 9:30a.m.

FOCUS ON THE MISSION “There are so many things to do.” “We have so little time.” How many variations of these statements have you heard or even said yourself? Actually neither statement is completely true. There are many things to do in this life, but really few things that are vitally important. Working, searching, conniving, and worrying our way to “gratify[ing] the desires of the flesh,” as Paul relates in today’s second reading, are real-ly non-productive. So little time? When we take on the freedom that Christ offers us, we have all the time we need in this world, and even more in the next. Elisha, the prophet Elijah’s chosen servant, was slightly befuddled about what he should do. When Elijah called, he returned to bid farewell to his parents and provide food for his people. Only then did he follow. Jesus demands something different, something more of his disciples. He calls us to a single-minded determina-tion to drop everything and follow him. Now, not later. LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#139

A mother’s conversation

We said that the people of God, by the constant inner working of the Holy Spirit, is constantly evangelizing itself. What are the implications of this principle for preachers? It reminds us that the Church is a mother, and that she preaches in the same way that a mother speaks to her child, knowing that the child trusts that what she is teaching is for his or her benefit, for children know that they are loved. Moreover, a good mother can recognize everything that God is bringing about in her children, she listens to their concerns and learns from them. The spirit of love which reigns in a family guides both mother and child in their conversations; therein they teach and learn, experience correction and grow in appreciation of what is good. Something similar happens in a homily. The same Spirit who inspired the Gospels and who acts in the Church also inspires the preacher to hear the faith of the God’s people and to find the right way to preach at each Eucharist. Christian preaching thus finds in the heart of people and their culture a source of living water, which helps the preacher to know what must be said and how to say it. Just as all of us like to be spoken to in our mother tongue, so too in the faith we like to be spoken to in our “mother culture,” our native language, and our heart is better disposed to listen. This language is a kind of music which inspires encouragement, strength and enthusiasm. Fr. Terry’s Remarks— Pope Francis loves to compare the Church to a loving Mother. That's not how many of us has experienced her in the past or even in the present, more like a rigid disciplinarian. Let us follow Francis who tries to recognize everything that God is doing in us. A loving mother is attentive to all that concerns her chil-dren and responds to their needs and growth with love and wisdom. The Homily is similar to a good mother, the preacher listens and understands God's beloved people and is inspired to find the right words at each Eucharist. The hearts of the people, their language, their culture, their lives are in the preacher's heart so that he speaks to them in their native language. How consoling, how help-ful, how it deposes people to listen and respond even as we recall that the people in our situation come from many cultures and vary in age from 12 months to 101 years. Without lapsing into helplessness, we always remember Pentecost when each one heard them speak in his or her own tongue. Our daily lives are full of striving, in the Eu-charist we are in the eternal strife and the Divine Redeem-er is with us in both.
