Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process for adults who wish to become Catholics. They meet weekly with the RCIA team for several months to receive the sacra-ments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion at the Easter Vigil. The low-key and confidential meetings are where we share our spirituality as well as discuss the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Adult Catholics who have been baptized and have received First Communion but not Confirmation are welcome to join if they wish to be confirmed in a diocesan ceremony in February. We also welcome adult Catholics who simply want to learn more about their faith. Also cordially invited are fully-initiated Catholics who are moved to simply share their faith as team members. Experi-ence and training are not requirements. Our first meeting this year will be on Sunday, October 11th at 9:45a.m. in the St. Joseph Room in the Parish Hall directly after 9:00a.m. Mass. Interested parties including RCIA team volunteers may call Marty Mijalski, 510-582-3511.

Altar Servers Wanted!!! Want to be an Altar Server or know someone who is interested? We are now recruiting new Altar Servers for our Transfigura-

tion Church Parish! Children who are 10 yrs. and older and who have received first Holy Communion are eligible. Parents who would like their children to serve at the altar may email Alicia

Antonio at: [email protected]. “When you take part in the liturgy by carrying out your altar service, you offer a witness to all. Your absorption, the devotion that wells up from your heart and is expressed in gestures, in song, in the responses: if you do it correctly and not absent-mindedly, then in a certain way your witness is one that moves people,” (Pope Benedict XVI, 2006).

Thank you for advertising in our bulletin. We appreciate your support!

Is there a Welder in the House?? Our Parish Folding Chair Racks are in sad and sorry shape. We asked ourselves … Why spend parish funds to Replace if we are able to Repair? Good Question, Right??? Our Confirmation Class has offered to un-rack and re-rack all the chairs …. We just need some-one to volunteer to come up to the church with welding equipment and give the racks a, long overdue, touch up. We were hoping for a Sunday afternoon in October. LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#98 No to warring among ourselves How many wars take place within the people of God and in our different communities! In our neighbourhoods and in the workplace, how many wars are caused by envy and jealousy, even among Christians! Spiritual worldliness leads some Christians to war with other Christians who stand in the way of their quest for power, prestige, pleas-ure and economic security. Some are even no longer con-tent to live as part of the greater Church community but stoke a spirit of exclusivity, creating an “inner circle”. Instead of belonging to the whole Church in all its rich variety, they belong to this or that group which thinks itself different or special. Fr. Terry’s Remarks— We Christians should be recog-nized by everyone, by our love, care and tolerance for not only each other, but for all people, even for the whole of Creation. In our 3rd Eucharist Prayer, just before we invoke Christ to become our Food and Drink and draw us into a most intimate union with Him, we proclaim that Christ in union with the Holy Spirit has created ALL things and made them Holy. Why then are we allowing envy and jealously to create our own little 'circles' that we foolishly believe are more holy than the rest of us. Why are we in the holy Mass itself drawing attention to ourselves and proclaiming that somehow we are holier than thou? The essence of the fol-lowing of Christ is to acknowledge that I am an unworthy sinner and unfit to approach the Altar of God. What kind of twisted pride leads us to proclaim by our attitude that; '' I am the one who really knows how to be a proper Christian, so follow my example.'' Open the eyes of your faith and see how humbly, how simple the people of God around you approach the Altar and be likewise. There's already far too much partisanship in our world that causes so much horror to so many. Do we with our foolish spiritual worldliness have to infect our church as well? Let us pray.
