    This joyfu l evening acts as the launching pad for ourmost significant fund raising event of the year. Theanchor of our fundraising is our stunning SilentAuction which offers Italian food baskets, oils, liqueursand wines to the successful bidders.

    The evening begins with a serenade of sof t music, aglass of prosecco and mouthwatering hors d oeuvres.Guests will be able to admire the auction items prior tothe evenings dinner.

    Scheduled for Saturday evening, November 1, at our spectacular home The Italian Club of Dallas, 14865 Inwood Road, Addison.

    As you may know, this event is our major fundraiser of the year andit can take place only with the help of our supporters. We would liketo ask for your support in making this evening come alive throughevent underwr iting. Our Underwriters are the foundation of eachICD celebration, helping cover the events operational expenses so thatas much of the revenue generated as possible returns to the Club forprogramming, community outreach, and much more.     Ingredients

    2 cups boiling water

    1 cup sun-dried tomatoes,packed without oil (about 3

    ounces)1/2 cup kalamata olives, pitted

    2 tablespoons dried basil

    2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

    1 garlic clove, minced

    2 teaspoons olive oil

    72 (1/2-inch-thick) slicesdiagonally cut French breadbaguette (about 2 loaves)

    Cooking spray

    Chopped fresh parsley(optional)

    Instructions

    Combine boiling water and sun-dried tomatoes; coverand let stand 15 minutes or until soft. Drain tomatoes ina colander over a bowl, reserving 3/4 cup liquid. Combine

    tomatoes, reserved liquid, olives, basil, lemon juice,and garlic in a blender or food processor; process untilsmooth. Place tomato mixture in a small bowl; stir in oil.Cover and chill.

    Preheat oven to 350.

    Place half of bread slices on a baking sheet coated withcooking spray. Lightly coat bread slices with cookingspray. Bake at 350 for 4 minutes. Turn bread slicesover; lightly coat with cooking spray. Bake an additional4 minutes. Repeat with remaining bread slices. Coolcompletely.

    Garnish tapenade with parsley, if desired; serve withcrostini.

    I Colori Italiani and I Piccoli Colori will be performing at the TexasCultural Partnership Heritage Day stage next to the African-AmericanMuseum on Sunday, October 19. A ag ceremony is presented at 11:00a.m., and our first performance will be sometime between noon and 2:00p.m. We will also perform in front of the Hall of State at 5:10 p.m. andagain at 6:00 p.m. We would love to see you in the audience as we joinother cultural groups in sharing our traditional dances with the manyfairgoers who will be there that day.     As of this writing our Hunger Busters and Special Olympics BocceTournament Charitable Outreach each have more than adequatecomplements of Italian Club volunteers to monitor the Tournament andto start off the school year at Hunger Busters. Most gratify ing has beenthe response of twenty-two of our members volunteering to monitor theSpecial Olympics Bocce Tournament. This is not to say that our Hungerbuster volunteers who persevere throughout the entire school year arentgreatly appreciated as well.

    The long range weather forecast promises a sunny day for the

    Tournament. Look for details of the Tournament in the November issueof Il Cicerone and for future ICD Charitable Outreach initiatives.

    And as a lways, please seriously consider volunteering a few hours amonth not only for our Charitable Outreach but also for other functionsand events that help our Club. Check our newsletter for volunteerpossibilities that may appeal to you.

    WESTFEST2014

    Remember the little town of West on I-35 as you head south, before Waco? West celebrates its Czech heritage every year with a three-day festival on LaDay weekend. A year ago last spring the town suffered a terrible tragedy when a fertilizer plant exploded and caused the death of several volunteer firemmuch suffering, and loss of homes. The town did not give up but is rebuilding and continued its festival both last year and this past Labor Day weekendAugust 30 and 31.

    Many dance groups representing various cultures were invited to perform and received a fee, as did our I Colori Italiani and I Piccoli Colori, who returneWestfest after a lapse of several years. Members who per formed include Bill Lombardi, Frank DeSimone, Andrew Chobany, Carrie Harris, Maria Chob

    and Anna Battaglia, who is studying in Italy and was home for the summer. Children dancing included Lauren Lee, Alyssa Calo, Elizabeth Bushey, anShanna Miletta. Spotted in the audience was former dancer Bryan Pettersen and his family and also ICD friend, David Monk. A person from Austin iaudience chatted after the show about how much she enjoyed our dances and recollected similar dances she had seen in Italy.

    Not only was there dancing but also food booths with Czech specialties such as kolaches and sausage, polka bands for everyone to enjoy, games, and rideThe popular Grammy-award winning band, Brave Combo, is always one of the favorite bands and had the super-huge tent packed with dancing festival

    Help to write a page in Dal las history with a display of Italian pride and a celebratioof our Italian American Heritage by marching with us in Dallas Inaugura l ColumbDay Parade.

    Wear your Ital ian Club shirts or the Ita lian colors. The green, white and red of yourhats, shirts, ags, etc. you wear and carry will brighten the line of march and add tothe celebration.

    If you would like to participate, you can meet others at the Club around 12:45 p.m.to assemble and travel to the assembly point downtown or you can go directly to theBridge assembly point.

    You will al so enjoy the display of Ital ian made cars and motorcycles.

    Food will be available for purchase after the Parade at 3015 Trinity Grove.
