Basketball Team for 1976 will receive recognition at the 39th annual basket-ball awards program to be held at Magic Mountain Park on Saturday morning,April 10 at 10:30 am.

Players coaches and friends will be the special guests of Magic Mountainat awards ceremonies to be held in the Showcase Theater. The 1976 programwill mark the 4th year that Southern California's finest prep basketball play-ers have been honored at Magic Mountain.

Traditional awards will be presented to each of the honored players(framed scroll awards), with MVP's Wiley and Nash receiveing the traditionalbronze medallion awards.

AMF VOIT Basketballs will go to each of the honored players,..a tradi-tion that goes back some 20-odd years.

Thirty-three players, representing 27 high schools, are on this year's4—A all-stars. Five players are repeaters off the 1975 squad, co-players of theyear Mash and Wiley being two of these.

High School Basketball Team for 1976 will be honored guests for the 39th-annualbasketball awards program to be held at Magic Mountain's Showcase Theater on Sat.morning, April 10 at 10:30 am.

Players, coaches and friends will be the special guests of Magic Mt.at awards ceremonies being conducted at the Valencia fun facility for the 4thconsecutive year.

AMP VOIT BASKETBALLS AWARDED TO HONORED PLAYERSCitizens Savings Athletic Foundation's traditional framed-scroll

awards will go to each honored player, as will special commemorative basket-balls, which AMP VOIT INC has so kindly presented over the past 20-oddyears. Player of the Year Gig Sims will be recipient of the traditionalbronze medallion award.

Thirty-two players, representing 26 southland high schools have beennamed to the 1976 all-stars in the "AAA" Division. Champion Lynwood and semi-finalist Ramona placed three players on this year's all-stars, while Camarilloand Victor Valley each landed two performers each.

No less than nine players selected on the 1976 honor teams are repeat-ers . two of these — first team guard James McCloud from North Riverside andthird team forward Tony Hodges of Cathedral — have been honored on the team overthe past three seasons. McLoud, a first team guard in '75, was on the 2nd team in'74, while Hodges repeats for the third year on the third team.

There won't be quite the number of repeaters on next year's all-stars,since there are tut two lower classmen on the teams, Lynwood*s sensational forwardTom Freeman is a junior, while his teammate 'fyren Naulls, is but a sophomore.

AMP VOIT BASKETBALLS AWARDED TO ALL-STAR TEAM PLAYERSAMF VOIT Basketballs will go to each honored player...a tradition

which goes back into the early fifties, AMP VOIT has long shown its inter-est in Southern California youth with the awarding of basketballs and foot-balls to the annual all—star team members.

Twenty-four schools are represented on the 30-player, three-team selec-tions, with six schools landing two performers. Mission Viejo, San Marino, SantaClara, El Dorado, Alta Loma and Aviation each placed two players.... as five juniorsfound their way onto the honor teams.

Rowland High School defeated Mission Viejo for the 2A Championship, 4l-38. Rowland ended its season with a 23-6 record, having entered the tournament asthe Montview League's No. 2 entry. Workman, the Montview League's No. 1 team, waseliminated by Moreno Valley in the second round, 72-59. The lew-scoring 2A finalewas the result of extremely poor accuracy on the part of both finalists, as theshooting from the floor and the line was erratic...falling well below 50%.

On their way to the "AA." title Rowland's Raiders routed Perris (9O-63),Alta Loma (70-65), El Dorado (58-39), San Marino (65-57) and then Mission Viejo(41-38) . Mission Viejo, the South Coast League champion, finished the year witha 24—5 record.

High School all-star team selections have been made by Citizens SavingsAthletic Foundation's All-Southern California Board of Athletics since 1937. Allplayers named for honors by this board of Southland sports journalists receiveFoundation awards and have their exploits filed in the Foundation's sports library.

AWARE OF MORRO BAY'S COMPLETE DOMINANCE HI ONE A PLAY IN 1976.Kuhn led the Morro Bay Pirates through a perfect Los Padres League season

and a 26-2 record overall in 1976. Morro Bay's losses coming at the hands of two3A opponents (losses later reversed) evidenced the school's great superiority in1A play. This fact was clearly displayed in 1A playoff action, as the Pirates de-feated five opponents by an average of over 30 points.

Top rated by his coach, Sal Cardinale, Shawn Kuhn is called "an excellentprospect." He and guard Jack Wheeler averaged 16 points per game over the full sea-son, while junior center Dave McCracken averaged 14.5 points per game. Jack Wheel-er's brother, junior guard Chris, was named to the 1A second team.

The 1976 program will mark the 4th year that basketballawards have been presented at Magic Mountain.

AMF - VOIT BASKETBALLS FOR HONORED PLAYERSSpecial Voit basketballs will be presented to all honored players

at the April 10th awards program. This traditional award, so thoughtfullygiven by the people at AMF VOIT Inc., dates back to the early fifties.

Fifteen "A" Division schools are represented on the two honor teams for1976. Finalist Big Bear (for the second straight year) places two players on theteam, as does Chadwick a semi-finalist.

On its way to a virtually "untested" title, Morro Bay whipped Cuyama by45 points (93-48); swamped Coast Union by 58 (109-51); easily dispatched Bishop by21 (66-45); plastered Pasadena Poly by 26 (85-59); and then eased by Big Bear inthe division finale by 13 (67-54).

Players of the Year James Wilkes, Ronald Baxter and Alan Taylor will be hon-ored along with, other All-City Basketball Team members at the 39th annual All-Sou-thern California Board of Basketball Awards Program to be held at Magic MountainPark on Saturday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m.

Honored players, their coaches and families will be the guests of Park of-ficials for an afternoon of fun following the awards ceremonies, to be held in theShowcase Theater. Framed scroll awards will be presented to all honored players,with college coaches and L.A. City School administrators taking part in the pre-sentation ceremonies.

As expected, the 4A team is dominated by Southern (five players) andWestern League (four players) players. Champion Dorsey and semi-finalist Fremontplaced two players each on the two honor teams. The first 4A team is composed ofonly seniors, while one under classman, Westchester's Sam Williams, was named tothe second team.

A JUNIOR LAST YEAR, LEAGUE COACHES AMD CITIZENS SAVINGS BOARD MEMBERS AGREED HE WASCERTAINLY THE BEST AGAIN, AS LOCKE'S SAINTS REPEATED AS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

Two Locke performers were named to the first team, as the Marine LeagueChamps far outdistanced other loop members in the standings with a perfect 10-0record. The Saints advanced to the semis of the 3A Division playoffs, beatingFairfax (51-36) and Hollywood (63-61 in overtime), before losing to eventual champ-ion Granada Hills (103-84). Banning, tied with Carson for the runner-up spot inleague play (6-4), went all the way to the 3A final, losing 74-55 to Granada Hills.

Banning beat San Fernando (66-52), Gardena (62-58..the Marine's 4th placeteam) and Kennedy (73-71) prior to losing to the Highlanders.

Both Jeffand Manual Arts advanced to the 4A second round, but were humbled by Westchester(82-77) and Crenshaw (92-87) respectively.

HARDCOURT SELECTIONS WERE RELEASED TODAY BY THE ATHLETIC FOUNDATION.

Although not winning the league title outright — Kennedy tied with GranadaHills (8-2), there was little doubt that Taylor, all 6-9, 215-pounds of him, wasthe class of the league. Alan was the city's 3rd high scorer with a 26,2-pointaverage. A strong rebounder, Alan led the Golden Cougars past Wilson (85-46) andGrant (60-59), before being upset by Banning in the semi-finals (73-71)•

Co-champion Granada Hills, coached by Barry Bass, won the 3A Division titlewith victories over Carson (55-53), Belmont (68-63) > Locke (103-84) and Banning inthe finals (74—55), The Highlanders placed two performers on the all-league team...Brett Davis and Dan Soller.

Grant coach Bill McKee, to no one's surprise, considers his senior forwards"among the best players in the city," Both players were high in assists and eachaveraged 10 1/2 rebounds per game. - Goldman averaged 20 points per game, while Milliganh i t f o r a 1 6 . 5 - p o i n t a v e r a g e .

The East-Valley League eo-MVPs led Grant to a first-round win over Marshall,69-49, but the Lancers were then edged by Kennedy, 60-59. Third place finisher Hol-lywood got out of the starting gate fast against Lincoln, 72-51, but then droppeda close second-round battle to Locke, 63-61. Poly and Fairfax both lost 1st-roundgames to Gardena (64-56) and Locke (51-36) respectively. Honor teams follow:

MAINSTAY ON GARFIELD'S 6-4, CO-RUNNER-UP TEAM. THE GARFIELD FLASH WAS NUMBER FIVE

ON THE L.A. CITY SCORING LIST WITH A 24-POINT AVERAGE. SAMPSON AVERAGED 14.7 POINTS

Citizens Savings Athletic Foundation will grant awards to those who have beencited, Lynn Wright, Carol Groth and Jeanne Jungers, Players of the Year in thethree divisions, will be presented with Citizens Savings Athletic Foundation me-dallion awards, in recognition of the honors for which they have been chosen.
