OPERATIONS: This week our officers continued to wrap up
background investigations for our prospective
officers. We hope to do interviews during the
second week of March.
Last week, staff met with members of PAVSA
(Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault)
and Window Victim Services to discuss the
status of our current practices while conducting
sexual assault investigations. We discussed the
SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner)
program and how to ensure we utilize the
appropriate services that are available. We are
planning future in-service training for officers in
an effort to update current best practices and to
refresh information on providing service and
support to victims of sexual and domestic
violence. This training will include topics
related to identifying the predominant aggressor
during these incidents, and discussing self-
defense issues.
Detective Randall and Officer Beckman
attended the Fond Du Lac Community College
Job Fair on February 18 and made contact with
about 40 persons who showed an interest in law
enforcement employment. We used this as an
opportunity to distribute drug education packets
(The Truth About Drugs) that outline
resources and provide advice to the public
regarding drug issues.
PATROL/DETECTIVES: On 02/27/2015, Officers responded to the
underpass of Highway 33 at Avenue C. A
semi-trailer had lost a load of logs causing
some traffic issues.
On 02/16/2015 at approximately 2003
hours, FDL and Cloquet squads were
dispatched to FDL Homes for a burglary
and assault in progress. FDL officers
were the first officers to arrive one on the
scene and reported that the suspects had
left in a brown colored sedan. Cash and a
pit-bull were taken from the victim of the
robbery. A Cloquet officer located the
suspect vehicle southbound on
Reservation Road, nearing the intersection
of County Road 7. Officers made contact
with 5 occupants of the vehicle near a
residence on Reservation Road. Through
their investigation, the officers confirmed
that the suspects had been involved in the
home invasion robbery. The stolen pit-bull
and other evidence was located in the
suspect vehicle. At the conclusion of the
investigation, three Cloquet area men were
lodged at the Carlton County Jail on
charges of 1st degree burglary.
