ISDN is still widely used across Australia especially in the SME markets where customers are looking to sweat their PBX assets as much

as possible. Access4 Cloud ISDN terminates the service as an ISDN PRI connection.

This allows customers to move to an Access4 partner for voice services without the need to

change any equipment on their end.

What is Cloud ISDN

2

Businesses of all sizes for years in Australia have been using ISDN (Integrated Digital Subscriber Network) services to connect their business phone system (PBX) to the telecommunications network. This type of service for many years was the default solution and although SIP Voice (Session Initiated Protocol) and VOIP have been around for a while, there are still over 918,000 ISDN services active today in Australia.

One of the main factors for small to mid-sized businesses is that they would have invested in a phone system that still meets the basic needs of their business, so there is no need to change the type of service connecting it. Additionally, telephone systems are not a key priority for businesses.

The investment in the National Broadband Network (NBN) will force a fundamental

change for telecommunications providers and businesses alike. As part of this change, copper services including IDSN will no longer be provided as the move to newer IP (Internet Protocol) based systems continues.

Cloud ISDN bridges this gap for businesses. It allows them to use newer NBN and wireless IP based technologies to connect to a voice network, without having to upgrade or change their phone system until a time that suits their business.

Cloud ISDN will provide a connection today over an existing Internet connection, and will assist in your business’ journey into the cloud by allowing you to have both, your phone system, and Cloud Unified Communication as a Service (UCaaS) running in the same number range, at the same time.

Benefits

Reduce costs over traditional ISDN delivery methods and tariffs by;

• running your voice over an existing internet or data connection and removing the costly ISDN network into your building,

• having access to fixed call packs,

• remove bill shock risk with call charge monitoring alerting you when you approach limits,

• utilise your current investment - many businesses might have recently upgraded their phone system.

Cloud ISDN

• allows you to move away from traditional ISDN without making any changes to your phone system,

• gives you time to plan when you will invest in new technology, not be dictated to.

No Risk

• the ability to cancel in the first 30 days if you are not happy with voice quality,

• Access4 can “fail-back” to the existing traditional ISDN network at any time in the first 30 days,

Prepare for Unified Communications

• ability to have both your phone system and UCaaS services in one number range which means businesses can migrate to cloud telephony at their pace.

This can be achieved by:

• adding new staff to the cloud not the phone system and slowly moving across, avoiding big bang migration event,

• trial remote workers on cloud services to give users comfort of voice quality.

Move to UCaaS

• Ability to have messaging, presence, audio/video conferencing, web conferencing in one application across the business.

• Create collaboration spaces when and where you need them.

• Access your phone number on multiple devices and switch from one device to another mid-call seamlessly.

• Give staff more empowerment to work remotely.

Although this shift is happening, not all businesses are ready to make the jump to a cloud envi-ronment or have a challenge with their current phone system. Some might have recently bought a PBX, and some might be nervous about VoIP. At the same time, our everyday digital environment is driving a high level of engagement. Cloud ISDN provides an entry point for these companies, to merge this digital engagement and their com-munication channels. Therefore, your current PBX sys-tem might stop being a problem, but become a solution.

upgrade as the opportunity for multi-device integration. A ma-jority of businesses in various industries (Health, IT, Manufac-turing, Professional, Construction, Education, Retail, Finance and Insurance) are looking to resolve their phone, productivity, mobili-ty, location or operational issues through Unified Communications.

A typical customer will have a traditional ISDN terminating as a PRI (Primary Rate Interface) into their PBX. They will have an ISDN with 10, 20, or 30 channels. No changes are required to the customers PBX to migrate to Cloud ISDN.

Access4 will provide a device that will convert ISDN to SIP. The device will manage the number routing, so no changes are required to the PBX. Once the Access4 Cloud ISDN service is in, testing is done to ensure that network quality is sufficient on the link. At any point, Access4 can push outgoing calls back through the ISDN link. Incoming calls will continue to come from the ISDN so that no diversion is required before porting. If the network cannot support Cloud ISDN, the customer can select to cancel the service in the first 30 days.

Once the numbers are ported the customer can disconnect the ISDN service. The customer can migrate selected services to managed cloud endpoints. This can be to access additional features or when a handset is inoperable by replacing it with a SIP handset. While in this hybrid state the customer still has one number range with internal calling by extension numbers and other services.

When the customer is ready to decommission

the PBX, they can migrate the existing users to cloud PBX and

UC services.

Journey to Cloud - Hybrid

Access4’s Cloud ISDN / SIP design provides customers the ability to provision hosted PBX services in the same enterprise and number range as the SIP trunks. This provides the flexibility to scale up and down as needed by augmenting the PBX’s capability with hosted PBX users in the cloud. Alternatively customers can run hybrid environments with a main office on an existing PBX and remote offices or workers using hosted telephony from the cloud.

Running a PBX and Cloud services allows customers to test hosted PBX or Unified Communication

services for their organisation before they migrate away from an existing PBX. This provides the comfort of being able to test services before you move and to move in a controlled manner without a “Big Bang” approach to migrating all users in one day. Users can be migrated over time or as needed to ensure business continuity at all times.

Delivery optionsAccess4 SIP services are available through:

• The internet

• Private network access tails

• Cloud Aggregation networks such as Equinix Cloud Exchange and Megaport
