How the CEHD Enrollment Ranks at UofL

• Ranked 1st for Graduate Enrollment – 1,157; compared to 545 at A&S

• Ranked 3rd for Undergraduate Enrollment – 1,825; compared to 8,383 at A&S, and 2,268 in Business

• Ranked 2nd Overall within the University for Enrollment – 14.78%; compared to A&S at 42.10%

Doctoral Research Enrollment

• Ranked 2nd for Doctoral Research – 274; compared to A&S at 341

Degrees Awarded

• Ranked 1st in # of Graduate Degrees – 500; compared to A&S at 225

• Ranked 3rd in # of Undergraduate Degrees – 374; compared to A&S at 1,236, and Business at 557

• Ranked 2nd Overall within the University for degrees awarded – 19.30%; compared to A&S at 32.26%

CEHD Highlights…

• The CEHD building was named for Woodford R. and Harriett B. Porter as a tribute to their work with the University and promoting education for all in our community

• Jonathan Holland, a graduate student in theCEHD’s Department of Leadership, Foundations and Human Resource Education, is one of 14 Fulbright Scholars

• More than 16,000 students have graduated from the CEHD in the past 42 years

• 12 new faculty members were added in fall 2010

CEHD Highlights…

• 219 students received $219,787 in fall scholarship funds

• Teacher Education Programs are being redesigned to accommodate changing needs of students and curriculum in our school districts

• Two new degrees programs were created in 2010:– The Ph.D. in Counseling and Personnel Services has a new

concentration – Educational Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation

– Masters of Education in Teacher Leadership – offers unique specialization areas and allows individualization of programs for teachers

Major Kent Solheim earned two UofL Degrees

• BS in Occupational Training & Development(now Workforce Leadership)

• MS in Human Resource Education

The College of Education and Human Development has a long history of providing educational opportunities for military personnel at Ft. Knox.

Our presence has never been more crucial in meeting the changing needs of this military base and contributing to the economic development of the Commonwealth.

Injured in Iraq with just 3 credit hours remaining for his M.S., Major Solheim was able to complete his degree through the UofL online program. The program offers flexibility to our students in the military who are serving around the world.

Community Partnerships…

The CEHD’s impact on the community through teaching is demonstrated through our partnerships with JCPS and OVEC.

• Elementary School Redesign – J.B. Atkinson Academy of Excellence in Teaching and Learning is model school

• Secondary School Redesign Program – The Academy @ Shawnee K-12 vision; Western Middle School is Art Magnet

• OVEC initiatives – literacy, mathematics, closing the achievement gap and training aspiring administrators

UofL Community…

Get Healthy Now (GHN) has received local and national attention for its tremendous success at UofL.UofL was recently selected as the healthiest Employer (5,000 + employees) in Louisville by Business First.Since Patricia Benson, Director of GHN and instructor for the CEHD’s Department of Healthand Sport Sciences has led the program,it has achieved a 70 percent employee participation rate, resulting in a reduced number of insurance claims among the participants.

Research Highlights…In fiscal year 2010, total grant funding for the CEHD: $7,997,485.00.

• Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium is working to become a research model facility

• CEHD/Bellarmine Collaboration – $148,570 grant for the Collaborative Teacher Training in Reading/Language Arts Project

• The Center for Career and Technical Education; $20 million over 5 years

• WHAS Crusade for Children Grant –$20,000 in tuition funding for special education teachers

• Special Education – Academic Behavioral Response to Intervention Program (ABRI); $525,000 (Kentucky Department of Education grant)

Community Leadership…The CEHD is developing educational leaders who will inform policy, improve practice, strengthen communities, and address pressing social concerns.

• Center for Leadership Excellence – created to assist in improving low performing schools in the JCPS district (Kentucky Department of Education)

• Kentucky Principals Academy (CPE)

• Kentucky Superintendent Institutes (KDE)

• Ed.D. Cohorts with JCPS and OVEC

• The Minority Teacher Recruitment Project –held the first summit for black High School students which was attended by representatives from the city and state; MTRP also celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year

Outreach…The CEHD seeks to collaborate with others in the community to solve critical human problems in a diverse global environment.

• “Teachnology” – Smartboard technology in classrooms; largest Podcast server in the state that K-12 schools have access to store promotional and educational videos—a way for schools to showcase their curriculum and instruction.

• Signature Partnership Program received a gift of $1 millionthis year to further support our work

• Early Learning Campus/Louisville Scholar House

• Nystrand Center for Excellence in Education – Kentucky Reading Project, Louisville Writing Project, Kentucky Principals Academy
