Coming to Hartpury gives you the opportunity to study and live on a stunning specialist rural campus – becoming part of the famous ‘pury family’ on our 360-hectare estate in Gloucestershire. With the vibrant centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester on your doorstep, there is a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions, including at the multi-million pound Gloucester Quays complex, which is rapidly becoming a hub for Hartpury students, especially Nandos! Cheltenham also hosts four festivals a year in Literature, Music, Science and Jazz.

The county is sports mad with Gloucester home to one of the country’s biggest rugby clubs, Aviva Premiership club, Gloucester Rugby, whose training base is on the Hartpury campus! Fans, including Hartpury students, flock to Kingsholm Stadium week in week out to watch the Cherry and Whites in action. The city was a host venue for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and Hartpury itself acted as an ‘Official Team Base’ for the Scotland and USA international teams.

Eight fixtures a year are held at Cheltenham racecourse, including the infamous Gold Cup week in March, while Cheltenham has its own League Two football club.

Outdoor adventure activities are also plentiful with South Cerney water park, kayaking and rock climbing in the Wye Valley and the dry ski slope in Gloucester all within easy reach of the Hartpury campus.

If you love the outdoors and making the most of every day, then Gloucestershire is your kind of place.

For a quick coffee, lunch between lectures or a late night snack, you can find what you’re looking for from our on-site coffee bar ‘Red & Black’, restaurants and Legends Bar.

There are a wide range of clubs, activities and entertainment on offer throughout the year as well as fortnightly weekend trips off campus. Our events team hosts regular events from pub quizzes, beer and cider festivals and comedy nights through to live music. Over the last few years this has included the likes of Chase & Status, Wretch 32, Katie B, Labrinth, Pendulum, DJ Fresh and Tinchy Stryder alongside DJs such as Greg James, Scott Mills and Jaguar Skills. We also have three balls over the course of the year - Freshers’ Ball, Winter Ball and the Summer Ball.

“With the Hartpury campus being out in the countryside, I was worried about whether there would be a good social scene, I needn’t have worried though! There are always taxis going to and from campus and you can always count on Gloucester being full of Hartpury students on nights out. There’s lots happening on campus too. The pub quizzes in Hartpury’s Legends Bar are always popular and a really good laugh. There are also weekend trips that run to major cities throughout the year that people really enjoy.”

STUDENTS’ UNION

There are a range of student-led clubs that the Hartpury Active team supports in collaboration with the Students’ Union. It’s a great way to be involved in and play sport for fun! From badminton for beginners to spinning classes, there are a range of activities available either for free or for £1 which are open to all students. All of the sessions are student focused and have been chosen by students for students. We try our best to make sure there is a range of activities available and, therefore, we change them each term.

If organised sessions aren’t your thing then you can borrow some equipment (for free), grab your friends and make use of the 360 hectares of land available at Hartpury, which include a range of facilities like the on-site gym, tennis court, 3G football and rugby pitches.

Although many students do not bring their own horses to Hartpury, we do offer students the opportunity to bring their horse (or horses) with them on livery while they study.

As well as the use of our outstanding facilities, which include two horse walkers, four indoor schools, three outdoor schools and an all-weather hacking route around the estate; there is also access, by arrangement, to the facilities within the Equine Therapy Centre, which include a water and a high speed treadmill, weighbridge and solarium. Livery students can also benefit from discounted entry fees to unaffiliated shows run by Hartpury.

We are able to offer all students discounted rates on horse feed that is delivered to the yard. The supplier's advisors visit regularly and can give individual diet recommendations for your horse.

Places are subject to availability. If you are interested in keeping your horse on livery at the college, you can make an application from the 1st March, for the following academic year. Applications can be made online at www.hartpury.ac.uk/livery or contact the administrator for a form or more information on 01452 702453 or e-mail [email protected]

There are also a number of livery yards locally, many smaller and able to offer additional grazing. We can provide you with details if you think a large yard and busy environment may not be right for you and your horse.

We pride ourselves on the support provided to students, helping you to make the transition to studying at university as smooth as possible, particularly when you may be away from home for the first time.

Support comes from a number of places, starting with your Academic Year Tutor, Module Leaders and Programme Managers. Support doesn’t stop there with counsellors and wellbeing staff, medical staff, student advisors and learning support staff all on hand to help you, should you need it.

Hartpury’s Achievement and Success Centre team have a proven track record of making a huge difference to student’s marks. They know what it takes to succeed here at Hartpury and they also know that any student can learn those skills with the right support.

The experienced Innovation Careers and Enterprise Centre team can provide professional, work and skills-based courses, careers advice and guidance, employability and enterprise opportunities as well as enrichment activities and placement support.

We are committed to responding to individual learning support and/or disability needs and have resources available to ensure that all prospective students have access to individual guidance and advice. Any concerns will be discussed with you in your initial personal tutorial.

We also know how important it is to have the right support in place as early as possible. Our Disability Adviser supports students in making applications for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs), helping them to collect the evidence required. Making a DSA claim is necessary to secure funding in order to finance support such as study skills tuition, ICT equipment and software, as well as medical support equipment.

On this basis, we can offer learning support to those students with a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, a physical or sensory impairment, medical condition or another specific difficulty such as Asperger’s Syndrome or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

You can contact [email protected] for more information.
