    DEAR FRIEND

Since a new year is traditionally a time or newbeginnings, we thought it would be a good time

to get back to some basics. So in this issue oConnectionthe magazine, were taking a lookat a very central subject or believers: heaven.Well examine some o what the Bible has tosay about it, address some common questions, and look at our place in the eternal kingdom.

Our guest article is rom pastor and authorJon Courson, who has graciously allowed us toreprint part o a message given at the memorial

or his ather in 1992. A Place For You takesa close look at Jesus promise o our eternalhome. Lenya unravels Psalm 45 in A MatchMade in Heaven. She examines this song olove to tell us about the glory o our utureas the bride o the Messiah. Our From theBlog section addresses an interesting readerquestion: Will there be animals in heaven? Its one that many o us have probably askedrom time to time. Uncover tackles an even

greater issue that believers struggle with:How can heaven be perect i all o our lovedones arent there? Our Dead Pastors Societyeatures Samuel Rutherord, a 17th centuryScottish theologian and author, writing on thejoys o heaven. And in Peeking into the Portalso Heaven, I present a ew o the highlights owhat Gods kingdom will be like. Heaven Is RealIn the book o Revelation, John got a

glimpse into the portals o heaven. He said,I looked, and behold, a door standing openin heaven (Revelation 4:1). John was taken to heaven where he saw some wild, butvery real, things. This tells us that heaven is

a real place. Its not a gment o someonesimaginationits not a antasyland. The writero Hebrews said heaven is the city whichhas oundations, whose builder and makeris God (Hebrews 11:10). Heaven is real; its

stable; its permanent; it has urniture. Johndidnt notice angels playing harps on clouds,or Peter standing at a gate with a checklist, or streets o goldthe rst thing he noticed was a throne: Immediately I was in theSpirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne (Revelation 4:2).

Heavens InhabitantsHeaven is absolutely huge. Not only will yoube there, but there will be millions o other believers who have ollowed Christ throughouthistory. There will be twentyour elders sitting, clothed in white robes (Revelation 4:4)and our living creatures ull o eyes in rontand in back (Revelation 4:6). In the Old Testament, there were 24 courses o the temple inJerusalem. Those 24 courses o priests represented the nation beore God. I think the 24elders are the representatives o the churchbeore God. And there will be many angelsaround the throne, the living creatures, andthe elders; and the number o them was tenthousand times ten thousand, and thousandso thousands (Revelation 5:11). Heaven willbe a habitation or many, many believers.

Heavens AccommodationsHeaven may be a place with many cit

ies in it. Jesus said, In My Father's houseare many mansions [abiding places](John 14:2). In Revelation 21:2, John sawthe holy city, New Jerusalem, comingdown out o heaven rom God. New Je

rusalem is a tangible, measurable, corporate city that descends rom heaven towardthe earth. It is measured as a cube. Its dimensions are twelve thousand urlongs(Revelation 21:16), which is 1500 miles wide,1500 miles long, 1500 miles high. That makesthe base o this city 2,250,000 square miles. The city will rise 1500 miles or 780,000 stories.

New Jerusalem is large enough to comortably accommodate more than all the peoplewho have ever lived in history on planet earth.

The Bible oten speaks o heaven as be

ing up. A little girl was looking at thestars up in the mountains and said, Ohdaddy, i heaven looks this good rom thewrong side, imagine what it must look likeon the right side! It will be truly awesome.

Heaven SparklesThe throne is the main attraction becauseGod sits on it. What makes heaven heaven is

not that there are angels or streets o gold. Its not that we are reunited with loved onesthough we will be. What really makes heavenheaven is that the God you love and serve will bethere. Youll see Him in person. Its not whatits Whom that makes heaven so attractive.

John looked at God on the throne and described Him in terms o brilliant gemstones:

He who sat there was like a jasper anda sardius stone in appearance; and therewas a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald (Revelation 4:3).

Jasper is a clear, brilliant, diamondlikestone. But any diamond you own wouldpale in comparison to His dazzling beauty.

Not only is He seen as brilliant jasper, butas a sardius stone. This is like a ruby, with areddish hue. Perhaps this is to remind the

inhabitants o heaven o the blood that wasshed on the crossthe crimson stain oeredby the Savior to purchase your salvation.

Around the throne there is a rainbow. Werst saw the rainbow with Noah, when God judged the earth. God placed a rainbowin the sky to remind Noah o His covenantnever again to send a ood to destroy the

earth (see Genesis 9:14-15). Now a rainbowis seen beore the storm o judgment, as areminder that God keeps His promises. Evenater the judgment, you can rest assuredthat the rainbow o promise will be there oreternity to come. Youve received the promises o God. You ought to see every experience o your lie with a rainbow around it.

A Chinese Christian was named Lo. He gotawully excited when he read Jesus promisein Matthew 28:20: Lo, I am with you always(emphasis added). He took it personally:

Hes writing about me! In the same way, weought to look at the promises o Jesus withour name on it. Fill in the blank:

And_____________ , I am with you always, even to the end o the age. (Matthew 28:20).

Coming AttractionsJohn saw and heard dramatic outpouringscoming rom the heavenly throne: From thethrone proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices (Revelation 4:5). The rst timewe read about lightning, thundering, andvoices was on Mount Sinai in the book oExodus. Gods throne has been a throne ograce or many years. But there will come atime when God prepares His throne or judg

ment, as i to say, I love the earth. Ive given MySon. Ive sent Christian witnesses throughoutthe earth, but now Im ed up. And you knowwhat? Judgment is a divine necessity. Thinko all the wars, amines, murders, and rapesthat have happened in your lietime. Multiplythat by the years and years God has enduredsin. Hes been patient. But God will nallyjudge. The storms emanating rom the thronein heaven are symbolic o His judgment.

Model of HeavenBeore the throne, John sees seven lamps

o re (Revelation 4:5) and a sea o glass, like crystal (Revelation 4:6). The writer oHebrews says that the tabernacle was amodel o heavenits an indication o the

setup o heaven. The tabernacle contained

a sevenbranched candlestick. In heaven,we see seven lamps o re. In the tabernacle, there was a laver with water where thepriest dipped his hands and ceremoniallywashed beore the sacrice. Here we viewa huge sea o crystal glass thats solidbecause theres no longer need or cleansing.Jesus died on the cross and paid the priceor our cleansing. We stand on the nishedwork o Jesus Christ. The question is: Do you

believe that youve been made clean? Or areyou still trying to earn your own way to God?A man came to an evangelist named Al

exander Wooten and said, I need to getsalvation. Wooten said, Its too late. Theman asked, What do you mean its too late?I need to get salvation. Wooten said, Itstoo late, its already been done. You cantget salvation on your own, its a nishedwork. You must trust in the merits o Christ.

Worship in HeavenFinally, we see that theres worship unto the

throne o God. The song You are worthy, OLord, to receive glory and honor and power;or You created all things, and by Your willthey exist and were created (Revelation 4:11)

is sung as the elders cast down their crowns

in heaven. Notice that there is a lot o worshipin heaven. The throne room o God is lledwith praise and worship. And not one o thosesongs is soloits all corporate. Everyonesings the anthems o eternity. Since heaven willbe lled with worship, why not practice now?

A tombstone in a cemetery in England hasa clever little poem engraved on it: Pausestranger as you pass me by. As you are now,so once was I. As I am now, so you will be.

So prepare or death and ollow me. Someone saw that tombstone and wrote thesewords in chalk: To ollow you, Im not content, until I know which way you went.

Consider the path you are ollowing. Andconsider that the door to heaven is open: HesJesus. He will lead you to a place o a greatlocation, great views, and great rates.

    A Song of Love

However, in Psalm 45, we read a love songdepicting an eager groom and his devotedbride in anticipation o their wedding dayand marriage. This was not just any bride andgroom. Although we dont know or certain, many believe this psalm was written aboutKing Solomon and Pharaohs daughter. Butmost importantly, this is a Messianic psalmthat points to the reality o Jesus and theimpending wedding and marriage o Christand His church.

As we read, we learn this wedding wontbe a shabby aair. The psalmist speaks ogreat anticipation and joyul preparation,a magnicent, anointed groom who isa righteous king, a beautiul bride, an

    everlasting dwelling place, and eternaladoration.

    A Language of Love

Have you ever noticed how easy it is todescribe someone you love? The words justroll o your tongue. You could go on andon. Oten people in love have an intimatelanguage o their own and call each other by

pet names that signal private moments andromantic meaning. That is also true in thissong o love:

My heart is overfowing with a goodtheme; I recite my composition concerningthe King; my tongue is the pen o a readywriter (Psalm 45:1).Gods language o love is lled with grace.

He expresses His joy orus with gracious words odevotion and speaks othe delity and exclusivityo our relationship. InIsaiah 45:6 we read,There is none besides

Me. I am the LORD, and there

is no other. There is roomor no other love or God in

this relationship. He jealouslyloves us and we are to love only

    our air Lord.

    A Mighty Groom

When we describe someone as beingair, a lot o us may think o the evil queen

in Snow White standing beore her mirrorasking, Mirror, mirror, on the wall, whos theairest o them all? Fair is an oldashionedword that reers both to the outward beautyand inner character o a person.

You are airer than the sons o men; graceis poured upon Your lips; thereore God hasblessed You orever. Gird Your sword uponYour thigh, O Mighty One, with Your gloryand Your majesty. And in Your majesty rideprosperously because o truth, humility, andrighteousnessYour arrows are sharp inthe heart o the Kings enemies; thepeoples all under You (Psalm 45:2-5).Our heavenly Husband is a mighty Man o

valor who consistently does good. He has asword upon His thigh. With glory and majesty,He rides prosperously, armed with sharparrows. He is a Man o war. Both the Kings

subjects and enemies all at His eet. Soundsa lot like a knight in shining armor to me. Butthat doesnt mean we are to be wimps. Asthe bride o Christ, I believe were meant tobe more like Joan o Arc than Snow White.Revelation 19:14 says, And the armies inheaven, clothed in ne linen, white and clean, ollowed Him on white horses. We are to bestrong and ready to ride beside our Lord, whorules with a scepter o righteousness (see

    Psalm 45:6).

No less than an ivory palace awaits. Your throne, O God, is orever and ever

(Psalm 45:6).For so many people, home is an elusive

location rather than a steady place o rest, security, and peace. Imagine the prooundcomort and splendor o abiding with theLord as His bride. In Hebrews 1:8-9, the writer

says, Your throne, O God, is orever and ever;a scepter o righteousness is the scepter oYour kingdom. You have loved righteousnessand hated lawlessness; thereore God, YourGod, has anointed You with the oil o gladnessmore than Your companions. Lukes gospeladds to our understanding o our secure, uture home: Do not ear, little ock, or it isyour Fathers good pleasure to give you thekingdom (Luke 12:32).

    The Groom andHis Bride

On the day o their union, the Groom isready. He has been anointed with the oils ojoy and gladness. He is righteous, strong, andhas ought or His bride.

You love righteousness and hatewickedness; thereore God, Your God, hasanointed You with the oil o gladnessmore than Your companions. All Yourgarments are scented with myrrhand aloes and cassia, out o the ivory palaces, by which they have made Youglad (Psalm 45:7-8).The bride, too, is at her lovely best.

Revelation 19:7-8 describes her well: Let us

be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, or themarriage o the Lamb has come, and His wiehas made hersel ready. And to her it wasgranted to be arrayed in ne linen, clean andbright, or the ne linen is the righteous actso the saints. Her wedding dress is made othe righteous acts o the saints! Interestingto consider that our good acts will add tothe beauty and loveliness o our weddingdress. Pearls, lace, diamonds, and a dress

guaranteed not to be ound on the rack o anymundane bridal shop.

    A New Life

In wedding ceremonies today, the coupleis counseled to leave their parents homeand orm a new alliance by cleaving to each

other. Divided loyalties are certain to dividethe newly married couple.

Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; orget your own people also, and your athers house; so the King willgreatly desire your beauty; because He isyour Lord, worship Him (Psalm 45:10-11).No person, no activity, absolutely nothing

should be worthy competition or the Son oGod in your lie. Not your mother or ather, notyour sister or your best riend. Matthew 10:37says, He who loves ather or mother morethan Me is not worthy o Me. And he who lovesson or daughter more than Me is not worthyo Me. God can tell i your ultimate devotionis to Him, just as your earthly spouse can telli your loyalty is exclusively or him. Our Lordrightly deserves all that we are and all that we

    have.

    And They Lived

Ater the wedding, in this psalm depictingour uture lie with our heavenly Husband,we see wealthy people coming to visit andpaying their respects with gits. The bride, now the royal daughter, is in her new palatialhome, preparing to be brought to the King.

And the daughter o Tyre will comewith a git; the rich among the people willseek your avor. The royal daughter isall glorious within the palace; herclothing is woven with gold. She shallbe brought to the King in robes omany colors. The virgins, her companionswho ollow her, shall be brought to You.With gladness and rejoicing they shall

be brought; they shall enter theKings palace(Psalm 45:12-15).A bridal procession o pure joy and

celebration! Can you imagine the choir ojubilant angels, the anticipation o the bride, and the culmination o Gods plan comingtogether at this unparalleled moment? TheKing and His bridetogether at last! Livingin the praise and respect due to the King okings and Lord o lordshappily ever ater.

On Saturday, our dads heart stoppedsuddenly and unexpectedly. And when weheard the news, our hearts skipped a beatortwo or threeand then they broke in agony. But as the day unolded, we experiencedsomething. We discovered again the reality o

the words o Jesus Christ, the One who hasshown such amazing grace to our amily. Wediscovered the reality o the words He spoketo His ollowers, to His amily, beore He wasto leave them when He said, Let not yourhearts be troubledyour hearts that haveskipped a beat, or two or three, your heartswhich have broken in agony. Let not yourhearts be troubled. He would say to you andto me, You believe in God, believe also in

Me. In My Fathers house are many mansions:i it were not so, I would have told you. I goto prepare a place or you (see John 14:1-2).

Thats the act. Thats the truth. I go toprepare a place or you, Jesus said. And what aplace it must be. The word heaven appears 557times in the Bible. Yet, although its mentioned

requently, the descriptions are rather sketchy. Why isnt heaven described more clearly?

The Bible says, Eye hath not seen, nor earheard, neither have entered into the heart o

man, the things which God hath prepared orthem that love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). Itsindescribable, this place called heaven. Aterall, how could you describe to a man born blindthe brilliant colors o a sunset? How could youdescribe to a man born dea what BeethovensNinth Symphony sounds like? It cant be done.

So too, God cannot describe heaven to usvery vividly because its beyond our wildest

imaginations. Its a place beyond description. And thats our hope today. We come missingour dad deeply, but celebrating the act thathe is in heaven, in a place beyond description.

I look around and see the creative geniuso Godat the mountains and at the coast. Allover, we see His spectacular creative abilities. But He created all the wonders that we seein six days. Over 2000 years ago, Jesus

said, I am going to prepare a place or you.Thereore, i He made all we can see in sixdays, imagine what He could do in 2000 yearstime! It must be absolutely mindboggling!

A couple o days ago, Tammy took ouryearold Benjamin and his ouryearold cousin,David, to the dump in Jacksonville. Uhoh,Benny said as he got out o the car. Somebodylittered. It wasnt me, Aunt Tammy, honest! little David was quick to respond.

Truly, the things well see will make thenest things on earth look like the Jacksonvilledump in comparison. In act, the Biblesays the streets there are paved with gold(Revelation 21:21). People think goldpavedstreets must be wonderulespecially in the

eyes o a bank president like my dad. But inreality, golden streets are not the highlight oheaven. Not at all. We pave our streets withasphalt. We drive over it. We walk across it.We take no notice o it. So what the LORDis saying to us by telling us the streets inheaven are paved with gold is simply thatthe most valuable commodity on earththat

upon which our economy is built, that orwhich wars have been ought, that or whichmen have diedis like asphalt in heaven. We wont even notice it because o thewonderul things well see and experience.

But please understand, our Lord said, Dontlet your hearts be troubled, not because othe beauty o heaven in totality, but because,I go to prepare a place or you personally,

or you specically. Thereore, i the Lord hasprepared a place or my dad specically, I knowthat place must be landscaped beautiully

Every Saturday, as I was growing up inCampbell, Caliornia, out would come theold push mower. Dad always liked to mowthe lawn himsel because he could do it just right, making the lines on the reshlycut grass perectly parallel. But almostwithout ail, somewhere between the sideyard and the apricot trees in the ront, hewould stop and say to my brother Jimmyand me, Lets play some Horse. Wed graba basketball and go to the driveway, wherewed shoot baskets and play a game oHorseor two or three. He would always win.

Hed always have time or us beorenishing the yard and creating a thing obeauty. Thats why I know that when wesee Dads mansion in heaven, it will belandscaped beautiully. And I bet he will evenget to mow the lawn, where hell do it just right.

Its not only my earthly ather who lovesgardening, but my heavenly Father does aswell. When He created the rst man, it was in a

last Adam, as the Scriptures call Jesus, wasalso One who spent time in gardens. He talkedto the Father in the Garden o Gethsemane, where Luke tells us He went requently.

It was in a garden that the rst Adam walkedwith the Father, and it was in a garden thatthe last Adam talked to the Father. I nd thisinteresting because my mom shared with mea couple o days ago that my dad was rising

beore the dawn broke to walk out to theorchard to garden beore leaving or the bank. Its where I can talk to God as Im tendingthe trees or watering the lawn, he had toldher. So, like the rst Adam, my dad walkedwith his Father in the garden. In one o theew descriptions o heaven we are given in theBible, we read o a crystal river, o a gardenlike setting, o trees whose leaves are used orhealing. And I believe my dad is there right now.

Its not only my dad who can walk withGod in the garden, who can talk to Godin the garden, so can you and so can we,or whosoever will can come reely.

No, it is not the jasper walls and the pearly gates

that are going to make heaven attractive. It is the being with God.

If I find in myself a desire which no experience inthis world can satisfy, the most probable explanation

is that I was made for another world.

Be thou comforted, little dog, thou too in theresurrection shall have a little golden tail.

If I ever reach heaven I expect to find threewonders there: first, to meet some I had not thoughtto see there; second, to miss some I had expected to

see there and third, the greatest wonder of all, to findmyself there.

He whose head is in heaven need not fear to puthis feet into the grave.

If there were no hell, the loss of heavenwould be hell.

If ever there was a happymeeting betwixt two, it must bebetwixt the Bridegroom and the

    bride in the marriage-day.

    Ye Shall Neve r

Weep AgainAnd God shall wipe away all tears. When

riends meet, they give the stranger hiswelcomehome. Here is the pilgrims welcomethat our riend Christ gives us. It was spokenrom heaven, and thereore it is true doctrine. Then we see that the suerings and tears othe saints shall be wiped away and removed,

but not ully, until the world to come; or then isChrists welcomehome to poor sinners. Theycome all to Him with wet aces, and blearedwith tears or sin and the maniold troubles othis lie; and Christ meets them in the door, witha air sot napkin in His hand, and puts up Hishand to their aces, and says, Hold your tongue,My dear bairns; ye shall never weep again.

And indeed, in my judgment, it is a speech

borrowed rom a mother that has a bairn witha broken ace, all bloody and all bleared withtears, and it comes to her (and woes her heartto see him so), and she sits down and wipes thetears rom his eyes, and lays her hand sotlyon the wound, and his head in her breast, andwipes away the blood, and lays her two armsabout him, and there is no end o air words.

So when Christ and we shall meet in heaven,

He will hush us, and wipe away all tears, andlay our head in His bosomI ever there wasa happy meeting betwixt two, it must bebetwixt the Bridegroom and the bride in themarriageday. And what a meeting there iso joy betwixt such a Bridegroom and bridecannot be conceived. For Christ that day willhave on all His best clothes. And such a bride

as the Lambs wie! When we shall be clothed, and not a wrong pin on us; a air bride in silkand purple o Christs own dressing. And what awelcome she will get! To get a drink at our rstmeeting and incoming to heaven, o the well othe water o lie. Oh, strong comorting water!

And Christ our Lord shall present His brideto His Father; and our Fatherinlaw, the Fathero our Husband, shall take us by the hand andlead us to the inner part o the house to thedining hall, and set us down at a table to eastour ll upon the tree o lieto east upon theTrinity orevermore! Now, mock and scorn theway to heaven as ye please; ye never heard otrue happiness till now. Here is a banquet ojoy or evermore.

Revelation 21 tells us this about heaven: And God will wipe away every tear rom theireyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, orthe ormer things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I makeall things new. And He said to me, Write, or these words are true and aithul (vv. 4-5).

You see that? No sorrow! No matter what our sorrows here on earth, we wont experiencethem in heaven. How does this work? I dont know, but I know He promises no more sorrow, and His words are aithul and true. The God who made heaven, the God who sent His onlySon to be our Savior, has given us this promise.

I want to be sensitive here. The pain o losingan unsaved loved one is proound and intense.I know this rom personal experience.

When I was a young Christian, I witnessed orseveral years to my own brother. I rememberone night in particular when I went to hishome, even though it was late, and we talked

or some time about eternal lie and aboutthe consequences o lie without Jesus. Itried to impress upon him the risk o notreceiving Christ, and I told him that we are not

guaranteed any minute o lie. He said that thatwas a chance hed have to take. I dont wantto do it right now, he told me. Two weeks laterhe was killed in a motorcycle accident. Hisopportunity had passed.

Even though my heart was brokenand itsa pain that I still eel todayI know that thechoice was his. But do I still think heaven willbe perecteven though my brother wont bethere? Yes!

Revelation 21:7 tells us that he whoovercomes shall inherit all things. And who is

that? 1 John 5 says, For everyone born o God

overcomes the world. This is the victory thathas overcome the world, even our aith. Whois it that overcomes the world? Only he whobelieves that Jesus is the Son o God (vv. 4-5NIV). So heaven will be a city o believers.

Thats why its imperative that we sharethe good news o the gospel o Jesus Christ

with everyone, beginning with the unsavedmembers o our amilies. There wont be anysharing o the gospel in heavenbecauseeverybody there will know it and will have

accepted it! While there is time, we must workor Him (see John 9:4). When Jesus comes totake us to heaven, there will be no more work,no more sorrowno more time itsel.

Again, I dont know howthere will be no moresorrow or crying or pain in heaven, when certainloved ones may be absent. But I know that Godhas promised itand I trust Him because He isaithul and true!

DO I STILL THINK HEAVEN WILL

BE PERFECTEVEN THOUGH MYBROTHER WON,T BE THERE?

WHEN A CHRISTIAN DIES, WILL HE GOSTRAIGHT TO HEAVEN, OR DOES HE HAVE TOWAIT?As soon as a believer dies, that believer is immediatelyconveyed to the presence o the Lord. The apostle Paul saidin 2 Corinthians, We are condent, yes, well pleased rather

to be absent rom the body and to be present with the Lord(2 Corinthians 5:8). Thats reinorced by what Paul wrote tothe Philippians: Having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is ar better (Philippians 1:23). He anticipated that atthe moment o his death, he would instantly be with Christ.Theres no limbo. Theres no purgatory. Theres no soul sleep.Theres no holding place beore heaven. I we are believers inChrist, we go directly to heaven at that moment.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN IN THE BIBLE WHERE IT

SAYS THAT SOME OF THE SAINTS WILL AWAKEWHEN JESUS COMES BACK?

When Jesus comes back or the church at the rapture,1 Thessalonians talks about how the dead in Christ willrise rst (1 Thessalonians 4:16). The dead in Christ is aeuphemism or saints, or those in Christ. Saints can be deador alive. Theyre not just people who have died and have halosand are canonized by a particular church. The word simplyspeaks o all believers. When Jesus comes back toward theearth rom the heaven at the rapture o the church, we will besnatched up instantly rom this earth and taken somewhereinto the outer atmosphere. At that moment those who arealive will be translated, or have their bodies changed, in thetwinkling o an eye. Those believers who have died, or thesaints, will be given their resurrected bodies prior to that, andthen well be translated. So its an event called the rapture othe church: Every believer rom that point all the way back willbe given resurrected bodies.

ater salvation, but by aith. And i its a trueaith it will workit will produce something. I

believe in the security o the believer. CharlesSpurgeon said, God knows whom He haselected. I dont. He didnt paint yellow stripeson the back o everybody He elected so Iknow who to preach to. He told me to preachthe gospel to everybody. And those whorespond have obviously been chosen beorethe oundation o the world. They may notknow it until aterward, but thats exactly whatPeter would agree with. Were elect according

to the oreknowledge o God the Father(1 Peter 1:2). Youre a believer. God chose youbeore the oundation o the world. Again, theact that there is an interesteven a worryabout it is a good sign. But you can restsecure. Im never worried about my salvation.Im never worried that Im not good enough. Iknow Im not good enough already; that issuewas settled a long time ago. Jesus died orsinners. Paul said he was the chie o sinners.

He understood that. You should be able to restsecure knowing to whom you belong.

I HEARD A SONG SPEAKING ABOUTA LINE DRAWN IN THE SAND ANDYOU WANT TO BE ACROSS THATLINE WHEN ITS TIME. IM JUSTCURIOUS ABOUT THAT LINE DRAWNIN THE SAND. WHAT IS IT?

Im not exactly certain o the name o the

song. I do know an old poem and maybethis song was taken rom this idea wherethe author said, There is a time we knownot when, a line we know not where, thatmarks the destiny o man between sorrowand despair. There is a line though by manunseen and once it has been crossed, Godin all His love has even sworn that all is lost. And there is an eternal line, where a personmakes a choice and when they die its over.

Choices are made and destinies are ormed. For some people that seems very narrow; butGod is generous and seeks in so many waysto get peoples attention. People also havea tremendous powerthe power o humanvolition, the power o choice. And no is achoice. People can say nomany do. Andmany die without Christ.

    THERES NO HOLDINGPLACE BEFORE

    HEAVEN.

THERE ARE DAYS THAT I QUESTIONMY SALVATIONIF IM SAVED ORNOT. HOW CAN I OVERCOME THIS?

Paul said we walk by aith and not by sight(see 2 Corinthians 5:7). Under the categoryo sight, Im going to put eeling. We eel acertain way. Youve given your lie to Christ. You trust Him by aith to save you. Yet eelingscome, and the eelings are either ounded onact or on allacy. Its important to move romeelings to what we know. Feelings are whatwe eel about a situation or how we interpretthings that have happened to us. But whenour eelings are in conict with Scripture, weneed to go back tonot how we eelbutwhat we know. We walk by aith and not bysight. I like to look at it like a train. Think o

the engine as aith and the caboose, the endcar, as eeling. We get it backward i weretrying to run the train with the caboose pullingthe engine. I were thinking were saved byeeling, and then were not saved becausewe dont eel saved, then weve just negatedthe whole principle o walking by aith andnot by sight. Now the engine o aith and whatwe know to be true based upon the truth andinerrant Scripture needs to run the train o our

lives. At the same time, the act that we arebattling as a Christian is a good sign. Its asign that the old nature is in conict with thenew nature. Unbelievers dont worry about thisstu. They dont battle with the temptation orthe demonic spirits rom their background. They dont care about itits not even on theirradar screen. The act that youre even havinga battle and wanting to please God and arearaid that youre not is a good sign. Just dont

let your aith be swallowed up by your eelings.Let the engine o aith pull the caboose oeelings.

    CAN YOU LOSE YOUR SALVATION?

This issue has been discussed or the last2000 years and there are basically two groupso people: those who believe that you cannever, under any circumstance, lose yoursalvation (that once youre saved, youre always

saved), and those who say you can lose yoursalvation at the drop o a hatand they livein ear o losing it. I tend to lean to the sideo the rst. I believe that a person truly savedis kept by the power o God. No man plucksus rom Jesus hand. Were secure in ourwalk with Christ, not because o our works orour ability to manuacture good deeds even

Someone once wrote to columnist Ann Land

ers because his son asked i his dog wouldbe in heaven. She consulted someone romNotre Dame University who said, Tell theboy that heaven is anything you want it tobe. Assure him that he will see everyone hewants to see in heaven, including his pets.

A lot o people think that heaven will be everything they want it to bebut thats wrong. Heaven is everything God made it to be. Thats theessential dierence, because the ocus o heaven will be God alone. When we see Him, every

    thing elseeverythingwill pale in signicance.

Weve all heard the dumb jokes with St. Peter at the gates o heaven holding a clipboard, checking o names. And weve all seen thesilly cartoons o people sitting on clouds playing harps. Rather than believe any o that (orany o the supposed lie ater death experiences that contradict Scripture), Id listen towhat John the apostle said. In the book oRevelation, this eyewitness wrote over and

over, And I saw John was shown a vision oheaven by Jesus Christ, the very One who diedand came back to lieand He ought to know!

Heaven is described as a place o perect sinlessness, perect ellowship, perect worship, perectservice, perect glory, and perect government.

And we will have perect intimacy with God.The book o Revelation speaks about it: And

really love my dog, Mac. Butthe short answer is: I dont

    know. The Bible doesnt say.

Its silent on this subject.II heard a loud voice rom heaven saying, Be

hold, the tabernacle o God is with men, andHe will dwell with them, and they shall be Hispeople. God Himsel will be with them andbe their God (Revelation 21:3). And thereshall be no more curse, but the throne oGod and o the Lamb shall be in it, and Hisservants shall serve Him (Revelation 22:3).

Well have immediate access and intimatecommunion with God. When we are resurrected, our new eyes will be ace to ace with Him!

We may have great worship or devotion now,but ull intimacy will not be reached until we seeHim in heaven. That will be total satisaction!(See Psalm 17:15.) Never again will we have topush distractions away to ocus on Him. Neveragain will anything tempt us away rom God orcompete or our time with Him. Never again willwe depend on a style o music to get us in themood. Never again will we read a Bible, or listen to a sermon, or even close our eyes to pray!

Heavens main attraction will not be the golden streets, or the angels, or the pearly gates, ormeeting Paul or Mosesor our pets. It will beGod Himsel. What could be better than that?
