We have had a terrific start to the year and the students have settled in beautifully. A special welcome goes to our new kindergarten enrolments and our new students. We have a very exciting year ahead and we are all looking forward to bringing the very best educational experiences to our students so they achieve their maximum potential. For our new parents you will hear a lot about our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values. They are Coramba students are Respectful, Resilient Achievers. These values underpin everything we do at Coramba and we are extremely proud to be a PBL school. Some important changes/new procures and reminders: Our Merit Assemblies remain on Mondays at 9am. Everyone is welcome to attend and you will be notified the week before if your child is receiving an award. We give Merit Awards for students who display our values of Respectful Resilient Achievers. When students receive 3 Merit Awards they are awarded a Star Badge. 5 Merit Awards = a Principal’s Award and 5 Principal’s Awards = an entry into the Gold Book. The Gold Book is in the foyer and includes a photograph and citation written by the staff about the student and their achievements. We encourage parents, extended family and/or friends to attend these assemblies. We are now the proud owners of three beautiful hardwood picnic table settings courtesy of the Woolgoolga Men’s Shed. Come and check them out! Permission notes and money need to be returned promptly in order for students to participate in school excursions and activities. We have had a huge issue with following up notes students don’t return which is time consuming and wasteful with duplicate copies of notes being sent home. Please assist your child to take responsibility for notes by getting into the habit of giving them to you on the day they are distributed. Only one note will be issued to children. This will support out PBL value of being an Achiever. Receipts will now only be issued for payments over $10. We wish to cut down on our paper usage. If you require a receipt for a payment under $10 please see Miss Moss in the office. Week 2 Term 1 2020IMPORTANT DATES

Messages from the Principal Welcome to 2020! Some important changes/new procures and reminders:

Our Merit Assemblies remain on Mondays at 9am. Everyone is welcome to attend and you will be notified the week before if your child is receiving an award. We give Merit Awards for

students who display our values of Respectful Resilient Achievers. If your afternoon travel arrangements are varying for the day, please send a note to your child’s classroom teacher or you can collect them from the classroom at the end of the day. Calling just before the bell is not advisable due to the physical layout of the school and Miss Moss may not be at her desk to take your call. We encourage parents/carers and family members to come into school at the end of the day. It’s a great way to have a quick check in with your child’s teacher, get to meet other parents and students and get to know the school. There is NO parking in the school carpark, as this area is for staff, OOSH staff and deliveries ONLY. Please refrain from driving up Short St and parking there, this is a highly unsafe practice as the road has no footpath for students to walk on. Thank you for your support in this. We have evaluated our student leadership practices and have made a few changes to make them more effective. Students will hold leadership positions for a term and their badges will be presented at next Monday’s Merit Assembly AND Captain’s Induction. Our SRC will meet twice a term and, like the Captains, take a pledge that they will fulfil their responsibilities. Our Term 1 student leaders are:

Sandpit Assistants: Riddick, Kai Quiet Play Assistants: Sienna, Alexis Flag Monitors: Eve, Sam Power Rangers: Lyra, Ruby Notes Assistants: Ryan, Jacob Recycling Assistants: Levi M, Jarrah Sports Equipment Assistants: Carter,

James Chicken Caretakers: Jack B (Coach), 2

students TBA Our SRC Representatives are:

Year 1: Jack Year 2: Carter Year 3: Piper Year 4: Jarrah Year 5: Payton Year 6: Coopa, Shannon, Destiny

Congratulations everyone!

Next Thursday afternoon 13th February, at 3:15pm we will be holding a General Parent Information Session. We will start as one group, then break off into class groups. We encourage all parents who can to come along, even those parents of children who have been at the school for a while. We have made numerous changes to routines, practices and teaching and learning programs in addition to new initiatives which we would love to share with you all. Have a great end of week and weekend.

Julie Barker
