The Seymour Family & Children’s Centre – a partnership between Seymour College, Mitchell Shire, Kids First Australia and Our Place – is now in operation. Located at Seymour College on Stewart Street, the Family & Children’s Centre is currently home to Maternal Child & Health services, an early learning centre operated by Kids First Australia and to Louis and Georgia – the Our Place community facilitators based in Seymour. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT What a wonderful start to the year it has been! I hope you have had an opportunity to read last week’s newsletter with all the important dates and information for 2020. If not, it is on our website for you to peruse. Students and staff are very excited to be learning and teaching in the new secondary learning building. The Family and Children's Centre has been operating kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health appointments this week. The new secondary learning building will be formally opened this Friday, 7th February. I would like to welcome any parents who would like to attend this event to gather in the administration building at the general office and 9:00 am. Now that the new learning building is completed, the hydrotherapy pool gate will be closed, only opening for public pool hours. This gate will not be opened prior to or after school. Primary students and their parents will need to access the College via the Anglesey or the Stewart Street gates. Secondary students will be able to access the College via the Grant Street gates that enter onto Loco Street. Please see the only three entry points on the map below: Please also ensure that any onsite staff carparks are not used as walkways due to the danger of moving cars. I also remind parents that they are not to park in the administration car park to drop off or collect students. It is against Department of Education policy to do so. The Mitchell Shire will also be moving the pedestrian crossing in Loco Street in the next few months and information will be forwarded when we receive further specific updates. Thank-you for your understanding as we return to the entrances listed above. Your commitment to supporting the College is greatly appreciated. Remember, every day counts in your child’s education journey and it is rewarding and exciting to be part of the
ride!

Vaccination Dates Year 7 - 11th March & 12th October Year 10 - 18th May
Please Note – If your child is away on these days, catch up vaccinations can be given at school with the Doctors in School program. Make your appointments with the school nurse. Secondary School Vaccinations The Secondary School Vaccine Program offers free vaccinations to Year 7 and 10 students. These vaccines provide protection against:
Diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough (pertussis) - one dose for year 7 students
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) - two doses for year 7 students
Meningococcal A,C,W,Y – one dose for year 10 students
Parents/guardians of Year 7 and 10 students should look for the vaccine consent card booklet coming home from school with your child. You need to read the information and complete and return the card regardless of whether your child is being vaccinated at school.
The Mitchell Shire Council immunisation service may contact you about the Secondary School Vaccine Program. Schools are authorised to provide basic parent/guardian contact details to local councils for this purpose. Contact the school by 17 February each year if you do not want your contact details given to the Mitchell Shire Council immunisation service.
To learn more about the Secondary School Vaccine Program, the vaccines, the diseases they protect against, or how you can prepare your child for vaccination, go to - https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/immunisation-in-secondary- schools
Additionally, the Commonwealth government is funding vaccinations for all children under 20 years of age who missed any scheduled vaccines, including a catch up program for Meningococcal ACWY vaccine for adolescents aged 15-19 years of age who have not already received the vaccine in school. If students have missed vaccines, either in childhood or adolescence, and require catch-up vaccines, they should speak with their immunisation provider. (i.e. local council or GP).
