What is Counterpoint?

In music, counterpoint is the relationship

between voices that are interdependent

harmonically (polyphony) yet independent in

rhythm and contour. It has been most

commonly identified in classical music,

strongly developing during the Renaissance

and in much of the common practice period,

especially in Baroque music.

Some good ol’ tips! 1:1 Ratio

Unison, 3rds, 5ths, 6ths, and octaves!

Parallel 3rds and 6ths are our friends!

Stay away from parallel motion with 5ths and octaves/unisons.
