I t is the wee hours of May 22 as I take pen in hand once again to put my feelings and thoughts on paper to share with all those all over the United States and Canada who will receive and read this newsletter. It is a beautiful Spring morning. In comparison to the early weeks of Spring, in reality it is more like Summer with daytime temperatures in the mid 80’s with just enough rain to get gardens and fields of crops off to a big start. This past week we had a Menno- nite team here from southeast Ohio made up of men and women with about 15-18 total in attendance. The men worked on the Butchie house and made a lot of progress. They also had time, and enough man power, to put siding on John and Sissy’s house while the women kept busy in various build- ings around campus. I nearly forgot to mention we also had a small team from Indianapolis, Indiana consisting of three men, namely Jeffrey Majors, who has been here with a team more times than I can count over the years. A group from Lancaster, Pennsyl- vania was scheduled for this week, but had to cancel due to transportation problems. We said goodbye to the class of 2018 a little over a week ago and school is out at the Galilean Christian Academy until August 6. That means the Galilean Home has fallen into Summertime work mode. We, as in the past, have about eight or nine teams scheduled for the remainder of the year. There is one team from Coalgate, Oklahoma and even a team from Carthage, New York, which is in the upstate part of New York. We, I say “we” when I talk about our traveling group of 12- 15, have programs scheduled one weekend per month in June, July, August, and September here in Kentucky – you can see our schedule posted in this newsletter. Summer Work, Traveling, Weddings and More! Also in July, we have extra traveling on the itinerary. July 19 we will be in Northville, Michigan and since we will be ministering to a group in that time frame, I plan to take our gang into Detroit where I was born in 1940 and lived until 1974. We will drive by and visit places of interest such as where I lived from 1940-1957, where I attended school, where Sandy lived where I met her, and three or four places we lived from 1963- 1974 before we moved to Kentucky. A lot of the older children are excited to relive our places of abode and it will also be a tremendous nostalgic blessing for me since we have been gone since 1974. Then, just three days after return- ing from Michigan, eight or 10 of us will be heading to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for a week or so. As I have said at least 100 times or more, it will be my 63rd Honduras trip. To say this old man is excited would be an understatement. Son-in-law Merv along with some of my older children and grandchildren will be with me on this trip. Some more local news is that grandson Jordan just graduated from Liberty University in Virginia last week with a four-year degree in Business. He and I and Sandy feel God is leading him, and his soon wife to be, to someday be in charge here if, and when, I retire or am called home. I never have liked the word “retire” as I define it as “putting new tires on a vehicle.” I said his “soon” wife as he is marrying a wonderful, Christian young lady from Indiana probably by the time this newsletter is read. The wedding date is June 2. Jordan worked as a teacher here last year. He and his wife will be taking a more direct roll in ministry operations soon. Jordan is Becky and Merv’s number-three son out of four boys and one girl. It will be their first trip to Honduras and plans are Grandson Jordan (left) with fiancé Hannah on the day of his graduation from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. lot of fun making the rugs and place mats and even get to sell them to make some spending money of their own. Medina also loves to sing and has a beautiful singing voice. She enjoys good southern gospel music and loves to laugh. Effie was six years old when Sandy met her in Haiti. She was born with congenitally deformed legs and feet and had been abandoned four years prior. A contact of Mom’s at World Harvest for Christ had taken care of Effie, but were thrilled when Mom wanted to bring her to America. After some paper work issues, she came to us just 10 days after meeting Mom in the fall of 1986. The lady that brought her here said that during the plane trip Effie kept saying, “Effie Kontann” which means, “Effie happy.” Doctors quickly found that she didn’t need surgery to walk, but only therapy and love. Effie was walking by the spring of 1988 after crawling for eight years. Effie lives in our girls’ dorm and helps out in the office sometimes. She is also one of the girls that makes the rag rugs with Medina. Effie has always and to this day has one of the most infectious smiles and is another one that loves to sing. I guess I need to close now as my right thumb is starting to cramp up. If I don’t wrap this up it will turn into a magazine. As I always say, y’all (that’s “you all” for every one up North), come visit anytime. We are open 24-7, 365. If I’m not here, I’m only a couple miles down the road at the Café. We can grab a chair and talk about the “good” ole days with a hot, buttered, homemade, cathead biscuit or hot cornbread and

for them to make some contacts with people that Sandy and I have been in contact with in Honduras for over 30 years. A big step for them and even me, Papa’ Oso – Daddy Bear in Spanish. Then, after returning from Honduras, school will start up again and life will fall into more of a normal routine with school activities, more traveling in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana, other work rolling up our sleeves and getting back in the routine that God called Sandy and me into in 1969 – 49 years ago. More local news – Sandi Tucker gets married June 30. Sandi is Jeremy’s twin daughter and, of course, was named after her grandmother. And if I must mention my shoulder, I will know in about three weeks if I will A) do nothing but tough it out, B) get a total reverse shoulder replacement or C) amputate it myself! Well, (C) is not really an option, so don’t get nervous. Lately, I have been taking time each month to update you on some of our family here at the Galilean Home. This time around I am going to talk about Denise, Medina and Effie. Denise is our most recent addition and had been with us for two years now. She has a wonderful personality and adds a lot to our Blessing House. She lived in central Kentucky before coming here, but when her care giver had to move to Indiana with her daughter she wasn’t able to take care of Denise any more. She has mental challenges and some physical ones, but almost always has a smile on her face, a song in her heart and is always looking to tell you a story. Medina came here via West Virginia in the summer of 2003. She has some physical challenges while also being 95% blind. Despite her limitations, she had a wonderful ability to turn rags to rugs. She brought a loom with her and has taught some of our other young ladies here to do the same work. The girls have a

a cup of coffee or tea. Always remember, without you – there is not a Galilean Home and that makes you family. I am always so thankful and humbled for the calling God gave Sandy and me 49 years ago and I will still keep holding down the fort until my homecoming. God’s blessing to all,

—Jerry, Dad, Papaw or Papa’ Oso

P.S. I have been playing with the idea of writing a book on all my experiences in Honduras. After 62 trips, I have quite a mental storage of events. Some funny, some dangerous, but all with God’s leading. It might take more than one book, but at any rate, I plan to get with it very soon. Stay tuned as it all develops. The hardest part is getting started, but then it should all roll pretty fast. It will be full of trials, mishaps, mistakes, comedy, danger, but above all, it will be full of blessings that only Honduras could leave with me.

We WOuLD Be HOnOreD to have someone come and share about our ministry with your church or organization.
