Day of filming

Page 2: Day of filming

On the day of filming we had to change some features of our music video. With travelling a long way to Scarborough we re-scheduled the council estate and car shots to another day so we could get the Scarborough shots whilst it was still daytime and to avoid rush hour on the way there. We were also using a different car to travel in to the one that is actually featured in the video so it was easier to rearrange for another day. When looking at the storyboard we stuck to it with all the shots we planned on filming but when it came to arriving at the locations we sought other creative shots to include.

We originally planned to use a GoPro just for the club footage however we took it on location with us to capture extra bits. This was a successful thing because we used these for transitions and quick shots.

Interesting shots like the ones below were improvised on the day as we found ways to capture the actors in the location we wanted.

The arcade was an interesting place to come up with new shots like this one through the glass as it is also a reflection but shows the actors in a new light.

Similar to the left shot it is also through a barrier and the actors in a way are in the background. We didn’t plan on this shot but it has this continuous theme to it.

Whilst shooting we also found a brilliant piece of artwork on the beach. It was an engraving of a sun in the sand which provided us with a perfect cause to using it as it links with the title ‘don’t look back into the sun’.

Due to flooding, our location for the train station was set in a different location as we were unable to film at Ulleskelf train station which left us to film at South Milford, which was convenient as it was close to where we filmed the council estate shots. With this train station crossing over a bridge we also used this to photograph the advert and album cover because the bridges in York we planned on using were also flooded.

Whilst at the train station there was another improvised shot when the male actor lifts himself up on the lamppost because it relates well to how the libertines behave and come across in their videos. We also thought with the laid back theme we are going for it would suit the ideologies of the band. These spontaneous shots happened frequently when the actors were walking through York at night because the handheld camerawork helped link with the bands style. This was also due to flooding because the long shots initially we found didn't’t look as good on the camera screen.

We originally planned on filming shots with subtle hints like the libertines with using posters we created. We filmed a few shots however we didn't’t like the outcome of it. We felt that it was too obvious and the shots didn't’t link with the narrative and would’ve took too much time.

The swimming pool was an interesting location as we found an assortment of pool props. With this availability we used them in order to cut from the actors for a few seconds. It also helped us think about the fast paced edits for the ending so we filmed random shots of the props in hopes of using them afterwards.
