STEP 1 Create a WordPress Account

USERNAME = your online name (different than your display name)

BLOG ADDRESS= refers to your blog


After entering your info, click on “CREATE BLOG” for free option. (You can upgrade later if you’d like.)


Complete Registration- activate email

• Set up your blog (title / tagline)

• Pick a theme (be sure to choose a free one!)

• Skip customize theme -- click to NEXT STEP

• Skip first post and just click FINISH

• Later, you can go back and change the theme, title, add posts, etc. For now, we just want to get you on the class blog!

• This is only if you haven’t responded to an email invite to the class blog! • See “Welcome to your Dashboard” page • Go to the web address bar, and type in

•Click “request access” and a thank you note will appear.


• Private blogs need permission to join.

• General web public can NOT see content or comments.

• Admin knows who is participating.

• When to use in ministry?

Step 3 – Understanding Privacy


• In the upper right hand corner of the page, click your image (or placeholder)

• Then click SETTINGS

• Click PROFILE

Step 4 – Complete Your Profile


• Online profiles – who am I interacting with?

• Please use your real name (or: Kristi J.)

• Authenticity helps build up the DDBC community !

• Include Orientation site

• Gravatar will be covered in the next lab.

Post Title Date Each MODULE will have its own post


• Type URL directly into address bar:

• Sign into Wordpress.com – find it under “my blogs” from your dashboard page

• Click the link on our class wiki (later lab)

How do I find the Class Blog?


• After the Module’s Webinar – visit the class blog to read more (and different) items about the topic.

• Read through the Blog Module post. Watch any videos or click through to article links.

• Go to the class wiki and complete homework (if indicated by the blog)

• Answer any questions or post comments as indicated in each blog post

• Take the 5 question embedded Quiz at the end of each module

When do I go to the Class Blog?


• At the end of each post, look for comment link

• It will show comments (if any). Notice photo and display name.

• Reply in the comment box (after homework is done)

How do I comment on the blog?
