Gary joined the staff team at Mayfield over 8 years ago, starting as a class teacher in Green class, for children with a range of complex physical and health needs. In September 2012, Gary moved into the role of Deputy and has supported the school through an Ofsted inspection, a flood and a refurbishment, as well as working relentlessly to raise standards across the whole school. We would like to congratulate Gary who has been promoted to the post of headteacher of Ivy House Special School in Derbyshire. We want to take this opportunity to wish him well in his new adventure and to thank him from the bottom of our hearts for all of the hard work and fun he has brought to Mayfield School. Gary has made many changes to the school, introducing a state of the art data and progress system which has enabled us to track what the children are doing in school. He has developed the communication strategy for the whole school, training staff in Makaton and securing a system for every child to meet their communication needs. He has also managed all of the lovely students who have come to Mayfield, some of which have stayed with us and will I am sure wish to give their thanks to the work he has done. We will of course be marking Gary’s departure with a series of school events where pupils, staff and parents will be invited to share their thanks and to celebrate his departure in true Mayfield style. We will let you know the dates and times towards the end of the term. Sue Bainbridge Headteacher I will miss seeing him dress up in different crazy outfits. Completely and utterly irreplaceable!!
